Speachless!! What an epic model you have there!
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Superb!! You Sir are an artist and for this to only be a hobby WOW!!! I do have a few questions for you, How long have you been in the machinist hobby? How about a pic or two of your hobby room so we can see the tools you use? Did you go to some sort of machinist school or are you self taught?? I have been wanting to get a lath and a mill and teach myself how to use them, but was afraid I wouldnt be able to do it without CAD and digital readouts but it seems it is possible to do anything manually with skill and patience thanks for sharing you time and tallents..

I am in the machinist hobby from some year and as you can see I use Proxxon manual tools. No machinist school, only self taught. Unfortunately I have no CAD and no digital readouts, too many expensive for me but as you say with skill, patience and passion all is possible ........ |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Your D11 is very well done I do not think any one could ask for anything better even your shop show how you are about the way you do things very nice. Ed

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Oh my gosh. You made everything for this model with manual machines, not even having digital read outs?!?! You have an incredible gift. How did you machine the parts that have a radius? Do you have an indexing table? Your work is so amazing. I wish I had the same level of skill that you do! There would be nothing I couldn't make!
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Fantastico...!
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Thanks for posting that shop pic! I gotta say I figured it would look that clean..
Do you use cutting oil as you machine? If so how do you ceep it off those pretty floors?? |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Yes Espeefan, I use the Proxxon indexing table.
Crawler07, with a little of attention the Proxxon machines can work also dry, without cutting oil, I use it only for hard steel. Then every day I clean and lubricate the tools so they will hold out a long time and after I clean also the floor .... |

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
I think everyone has used all of the words available to describe this build already:eek:   Simply amazing is an understatement.
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Simply amazing (oops, I think somebody have already said that... ;))
You got an incredible level of mastership by yourself, I can't imagine what it could be if you were an engineer ! Since how many times are you working on that superb project? I don't think I have enough of my entire life (ok, I don't have the skill too :() to build a machine like this! I think everybody knows here how much the entire work, with draft, planification, parts ordering, etc., implies in time and energy... And each parts done looks like a jewel! It's a great realisation, congrats! As many says: I can't wait to see it finished, and before that to see the next steps. ;) |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
A true work of art!!!! Amazing

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
So Gipicarto is this finished?? Does it move under its own power yet? I just cant wait to see it in operation in the dirt!
You Sir make me want to be a machinist! |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Absolutely Incredible! Based on your machining talent I wouldn't be at all surprized to find a fully functional engine behind the hood grilles!
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
speechless.......what do i have to say?
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Its just amazing how good you are and how good the dozer looks, just crazy!
Have you done your track pads yet? |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Thanks to all,
the track pads are in construction ...., then I will have to arrange something in the transmission (now too much speed) and after the hydraulics components. Bye |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
WOW Awesome! How are you making the pads? Are you machining them or casting them?
Can't wait to see it working! |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
... machining ....
.. rigid tubes for dozer tilt cylinders ... http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/9689/imgx001.jpg http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/7555/imgx004.jpg http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4586/imgx007a.jpg ;) ;) ;) |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Amazing work! What kind of setup are you using for machining the pads?
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Eye Candy those front cylinders! I can still remember hearing the D11N's running over the hill from my house when they were stripping my friends farm for the coal 18yrs ago. I used to take my two sons over and every now and then were giving a chance when the operator was taking his dinner break, to push some blasted rock up the spoil pile. I would have a kid on each knee pushing in the dark with all the lights on. all you can see is the back of the blade. I remember the lights on the lift cylinders like you have constructed beaming over the top of the blade. Backing down the pile you heard the tell tail ckunk clunk ckunk of the tracks of the 11.

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
amazing great work love the detail keep it
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
Very nice work.
I would be happy to just machine one cylinder that you made and the tip of the ripper looks like it was time consuming. |
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
You are a MASTER! I don't know how you manage to build it so realistic but keep up the amazing work...and pictures.
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
some photos on page 5 are not working.
|
Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto
I ran out of words for this incredible build too, so I'll just say keep going! Those hard plumbed hydraulic lines are very nice.
