I remembered I had some perforated sheet from when i had to make some filter baskets for the coolant canister filters for some of the cncs. Should work fine for the steps. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c...6+15.56.30.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-L...6+15.57.47.jpg |

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Thanks Reg, and congratulations on your April Build of the month WIN! Really Nice work.
Widdled up a roof for the cab this evening, Its 1/2" thick alum...lol. And got my speaker mounted. Figured maybe i can use the cab as the speaker enclosure. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-h...6+18.34.05.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M...6+18.35.21.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n...6+17.00.25.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-e...6+17.00.48.jpg |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Left side steps made from steel all welded and sandblasted. Test seat printed to hide the speaker in cab. Ill be looking for some smaller chain.

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
JDH:
Want a source for some finer perf-metal? Look inside the door of any sh*tcanned microwave oven. Thats the only place I could find the really fine stuff. And I'm sure its steel, not aluminum (would be easier to cut if it was aluminum!) I've got about 4 sheets of it, awaiting a chance/opportunity to cut it in strips, and have the edges bent up-&-down on either side so that they can be used as sand/traction-ramps. Three pieces would make quite a few... depending on which way they were cut. And the build looks really great... only thing holding me back from a loader like this (or a Volvo articulated dumper) is my fear of hydraulics. Oh, and saving enough. Then again, the same savings could get me one of Peter Muller's Faun SLT2-50's 8x8 w/ heavy-transport trailer. WhiteWolf |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Nice work it looks way better with the newer look.
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
This thing looks sweet! I love the rear grill and counter weight!
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Lmack, thank you
White wolf, the perf steel is 18 ga and I don't have any problems bending or cutting it. Cutting it is a breeze being it has relief holes in straight lines. Anything thinner would be difficult to weld with my mig. Thanks for the suggestion tho. Rctech, and RCP- thanks fellas. Havin a blast seeing it start to resemble what I hoped. I printed another grill with smaller horizontal bars which looks more scale and did the same to the drivers seat.... |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
You have done an excellent job of reproducing the model. I am the one who originally bought and assembled the model an it was much more work than what you have done putting it together and taking it apart and re assembling it again many times. The instructions are in German and the pictures are that detailed enough to use for putting it to gether. Keep up the great work it looks very nice. Ed

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Ed, Thank you. You had more time in building the kit than i do scratch building it?

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Looks great Jason! Between your printing skills, with the detail parts, and your metal fab skills, there is nothing you can't do!
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Yes I dod have more time in building the loader than you do what with missing parts and German instructions and very little pictures to go by. I would have to assemble a piece and if it was wrong witch it was most of the time and reassemble until it was right that why some of the parts are broken and patched or replaced with angle aluminum, it was a nightmare. Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
This is becoming one of my favourites right now. Very fast progress to!

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Printed a few light buckets for the rear end. Lenses are from PMD. Also a cool pic of some chased threads on a wheel hub. Thats all for now.

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Wow !!!!! I like the transformation!
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
What a machine you made here buddy . It is simply Epic!! Congratulations on a job well done!
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Awsome.....simply awsome.. This is really a nice jobb.
Almost scratch built.:jaw: |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
That looks great! Now you gotta make a new bucket so that those screw heads are gone. Can't wait to see it in action. You shouldn't have a traction issue now with all that added weight.
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Jason, my jaw hit the floor when I checked the updates to your thread on my phone. How much better the view is on my laptop. All I can say is wow! You've definitely overhauled this WA500, and turned it into a masterpiece. It looks a lot like the Fumotec WA500 now. Very cool.
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Great job, get it dirty.
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Thanks fellas, I've still got some work to do, mostly wiring for the lights and going to make a few more detail parts before I can get it dirty. Ill be sure to post some video when its rolling.
Nate, thanks! I hadn't looked at the Fumotec loader in a while.. Ill have to see that and compare now. I was basing my build off a few 1:1 pics of a wa 500-6. I'm sorta at a stand still now due to the s20 burning out. While i was trying to organize the rat nest that is the wiring, the previously poor soldering of the deans battery connector caused a lead to short and then emit the infamous blue smoke from the esc which is never good. Its done...I've had an s20 on order now for maybe 3 months from ric for my w900. hopefully that's coming in soon so I can proceed. RCP thanks, the weight difference from stock to now is night and day. Didn't get a weight but as it sits now its all of 35 lbs I'm guessing. |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Amazing build here. This build is top notch. It looks like you have done this a before. Chop cut rebuild.
Ed |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Oz, Thank you!
Ed, Thank you, Chop, cut , rebuild...I like that. First time building anything of this detail. Need to make a correction. I over estimated the weight of the machine. Dry weight is 23 lbs. |

Looks fantastic!! Did you not end up selling her a few months back? Any videos? Thanks!

Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
What a transformation! Well done! :)
|
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Thank you!
I did end up holding on to it as you see and did a bit more finishing work on it. Glad I did because I needed to post some final shots to end the build thread. Working out a few bugs now, will be sure to post some video when it's running. |
Re: Wa 500 Rebuild
Hey the work you done is absolute top class. love it and don't you dare selling that baby.
