Started to put some of the parts back together last night... rear half is complete. Just waiting for the front half to arrive back from the painters.

Thanks for the photo's and video Elliot, looks like you had a great time at the show.. I bet it felt good to get her out in the dirt and give her a workout ! It is alot bigger than the CAT 740...
What are you using for lights as they are good and bright ?

Brel, Greg, Alan & Jens

Thanks for the nice comments, I posted a timelapse video (something different ) and someone disliked it straight away, kinda took the wind out of my sails, but I'm over it now :-)

Its the first time at this show and first real outing for the Bell, if performed faultlessly. I am really surprised how tight/small the turning circle is, this makes it really easy to maneuver.

To Joe... its got plenty of scratches on it now :D

Really?! I didn't notice any scratches Elliot.. I was awstruck by it's power & ability to climb so effortlessly without a single bit of hesitation! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-cool11.gif

I spotted that junk 740 sitting on the bridge... the owner placed it there, didn't he?! It never would have gotten up there under it's own power.. even without a load on it's back! http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...aughing013.gif

I didn't see the owner drive it up there... but I believe he did, he is a very good driver and determined!

The power of the B50 is amazing, it'll go anywhere. I know electric drive isn't really scale, but its like having 6 limited slip diffs fitted, if one wheel spins the other 5 just take over. With a full load on, I've had 4 of the 6 wheels spinning in loose soil, the last two had grip and just drove it through

Also, its good for entertaining the kids. Since fitting the an esc from Hobby Holmes, It'll drive these two around up and down any slope/hill no problem at all!

Truck came out really nice and I enjoyed the videos but what scale is the truck-It seems out of proportion to the other trucks. Just curious:confused:

Thanks, I'm happy with how it turned out. Reference the scale, it is 14.5, but as its a 50 ton machine, its a lot bigger than the cat dumper as that is only a 40 ton machine. Another thing that makes it look big, is the company that it keeps :-) it wouldn't normally be seen driving on the highway with other trucks, it would normally be in a mine or quarry with 80ton excavators or similar sized machines. Basically, its in the wrong enviroment! That's only my thoughts, but hope it helps.

Re: Bell 50 ton Dumper - ADT

Goodness, that is a beautiful machine. Now I really want one! The paint looks really good on there, and your extra attention to the details makes the difference. Your kids are quite lucky! I couldn't imagine the fun they must have riding around in the box. Kids these days have so good! At that age, I used to have push my toys around on the floor and wear out the knees in my pants. Your's get to ride in style.

I initially went with the Tekin FSR but it kept trippin out under load, so I then fitted a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL - it can handle the 12volt battery and is tunable. Really holding up well, until I got it wet! It doesn't like the water at all.

Yep, that was the first to be fitted, but I removed it straight away. I didn't like how the filters in the esc remove the direct drive. It was fine on the flat ground, but whenever I was offroad I didn't like it. But to be fair I came from a scale crawling background and prefer the direct response from a rock crawling esc. I guess its just personal preference.

Ok, maybe your right about that, im from the scale crawler scene so i know what you talking about, but i kinda have got used to it even tho in some situation its hard to keep control of the trottle when climbing and such.

Yeah it sure is.

Yes, that's the same problem i had.. when I was trying to drive over a rock or boulder, I had to apply more and more power, but once over the obstical the dumper suddenly shot forward, even though I had let off the throttle?? I spoke with Jorg at servonaut and he explained that the "filters" in the S20 were the result of this.. the esc is very clever and filters/smooths out the input from the driver giving a smoother drive, great for lorries and trucks on the road, but I just couldn't get to grips with it off road. However, all that said, I fitted it in a Wedico 966 and it was completely different, maybe its the difference between mechanical and electrical drive

It could be that the 966 is geared down so much in 1st (so they don't blow the motor) that it is very sensitive to voltage changes, where as the Bell is using the torque of the motors rather than rpm.

Just a thought, any idea if the top speeds are comparable between the two (in any of the three wedico gears)?

Cheers,
AP

Re: Bell 50 ton Dumper - ADT

There's a big difference when you look at the driveline. One has one motor driving four wheels, the other six motors for six wheels. Since power takes the easiest route, you need quite alot of power to turn all six wheels in the terrain. Power = volt = speed. Just my opinion late at night ;)
