Hi Gipicarto, After seeing pictures on the internet of you D11 I have joined this forum to congratulate you on a superb scale model, it is a credit to you. Hope you do not mind me asking questions, how long have you been building this? and the track plate have changed from the first pictures it look like they are cast now? I only ask because a long time ago I started to build a ΒΌ scale of a tiger 1 German tank but the tracks were one cast lump and I could not get anybody interested in casting them. Would love to see this close up it is fantastic.
Best regards
Brian

Hi Brian,

thanks for your words,
the new track pads are not casted, they are milled from full metal.

For cast you can see here

This is just outstanding work.
I have one question, can you post the manuals you are building from.
Or web page or something.

Sorry, I have not pics.
It is a standard D11 R Track-Type Parts Manual like this

I am curious to know the price for this model being you are planning to make them for people who are willing to purchase. I am guessing it won't be cheap, and it will most likely cost double from current construction equipment already produced by other manufactures. I am also curious to know if when you do produce a model or two to sell if you will be doing everything manually like you are doing with your model currently. Or will it be made much more quickly with higher-end commercial machining?

gipicarto 11-10-2012 05:48 AM

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto

Although the project is not yet defined, I'm going to make sure that its cost of production will be aligned, or slightly higher, to the business models currently in production but always taking into consideration the craft quality of the product !
For the realization of the models will be employed traditional construction processes and assembling conjugates to cutting edge technologies so the building will be faster.
I would like to point out that this project has no profit and that each participant, that I personally will choose, will fund only his model !!!

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto

I look forward to the day that such people who are lucky enough to be able to purchase such a beautifull work of art from you that it will be of the most highest quality we've seen here as this is by far one of the most greatest builds ever seen to date amoung many scratch built models out there. This is my personal feeling towards the project. Give the fact of being able to own such a piece in a level of quality unseen by anyone else or by any manufacture sure will be nice. I can only hope that the next project is a CAT excavator. You have already done the worlds most famous dozer and to have a mid to high range CAT excavator would be another fine addition that I am almost sure you could pull off making with every single detail this machine has. Do keep the folks informed of when you will be ready to look at having a production start as this is something that I know A LOT of people would love to see, regardless if they can afford one or not. However given a price subject could put a few on the early savings edge. LOL

Hello, Gipicarto after admiring your work for some time, i decided to offer my help to you in documenting this model. I am very proficient in 3D CAD Design and simulations, especially Autodesk Inventor and CATIA. If you decide to go documenting this model, at the end you will have a complete 3D documentation of you work. By the way I am chief automation design engineer, and in my spare time I am trying to provide some help to model engineer community. In the following links you can check out what I am doing at the moment:

Hi Engine man,

congratulations for your great work and also for the intention of offering help to the modeling community.
Thank you so much for your availability, we will talk when the time will be right, although I believe that the distance that divides us is a major obstacle ...

Thanks, I just want to help If you decide to go documenting your model.
Regarding the distance I don think is going to be the problem as everything can be done over email or by some other means of digital communication.

Hi friends,

from dream to reality !

The collaboration with Oro2Model (www.oro2modell.it) turns my dream into reality,
with the work plans and components engineering the project starts to become really operational in all,
begins construction of the first parts of the limited number of bulldozer models dedicated to real fans.

I'm really glad

Re: Caterpillar D11R CD 1:14,5 by Gipicarto

That's a pretty cool heat exchanger. At first I was a little confused about the oil flow and coil tubes in parallel, but after following the path, I think it will work just fine. I'm used to seeing single coil tubes, so this is a bit different, but should reduce some flow resistance. Nice work. What diameter will the tubing be?
