Re: Volvo A40F
I started to do some sheet metal work:)
First I made the front lower body parts and then the tipper body. After several attempts I got something done, after trying aluminium I eventually made them from steel. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psd6d13201.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psa8c2eafe.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psba2cd6f2.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psb8e81c31.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps29ff40f8.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psaf3401bb.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Ari this build has presented quite a few challenges but you have come up with a lot of answers to fix them. Great work. Ed

Re: Volvo A40F
Little progress:)
There's surprisingly many parts on the tipper body, and what you see in the pictures are not even all of them:mad: http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps4bea4ad7.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psfa93c196.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps865a2700.jpg |

Re: Volvo A40F
I got the tailgate mounted to the body. It's still missing the cable and few other parts that connect it to the frame.

Re: Volvo A40F
Looks like everything came together for a nice fit.
Have you been practicing your tig welding much lately? Looks like you have a lot to do on this dump body. :) |

Thanks Joe. I've been practicing tig welding, but obviously not enough, so I have ruin many perfectly good parts by welding:mad: |

Re: Volvo A40F
Ari ur work is top notch u have some serious talent, u make me push my limited skills to the max and I thank you for that, I'm currently building a CAT 374D like yours it gave me the inspiration and a lot of the ideas I hope u don't mind, I was wondering if u are happy with the hydraulic pump and motor, valves etc u used or if u would change them.? I've been looking into premacon pump and valves? But I just can't make my mind up, at the pace I build at I'm not going to post any pics on here until I'm almost finnished but I would like to send u some pics to see what u think would u have an email address u could pm me, ?
Again thanks for the inspiration and sharing ur knowledge, Regards Steve |
Re: Volvo A40F
Thanks again guys:)
I got the tailgate opening mechanism done today. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pswurapvdw.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psy7whbtaw.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pswscfwn0e.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Very impressive work!!! It is truly a master piece! How long have you been a machinist?

Re: Volvo A40F
Hi guys:)
It's been quiet with the A40 as I've been making some parts for my friend for several weeks now, but now I got some time for this too. I started to make the drop box. I was originally thinking that I make it with two larger gears, but I soon noticed that there's not enough room between the steering cylinders. So I have to use three smaller gears to make it fit. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psemq2e03n.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psby5unfcn.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps58pwd1h7.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psholge7yh.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Keep it up Ari. Fantastic skills.

Re: Volvo A40F
You are an amazing builder, that is a work of art!

Re: Volvo A40F
Good choice of axles, I am a big fan of these which is the best engineered axles in the Tamiya scale I have studied.
It is a special tool needed to make the internal slots in theg ears. Can you show a picture of it? I imagine it is a quite expencive tool? |
Re: Volvo A40F

It's not that expensive: https://www.wabeco-remscheid.de/keil...adeln-hss.html You also need some kind of arbor press to push the tool through the gear. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps0zacvtin.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Hi Hemi any chance you can tell me where you got the drawings from thanks

Re: Volvo A40F
I got the dropbox attached to the frame and also got the 3-speed gearbox mounted. The gearbox is made by Veroma modellbau.
I also made a short video of the drivetrain running: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOV8...ature=youtu.be http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps3jgrsbaq.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pslzlirw0g.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOV8...ature=youtu.be |
Re: Volvo A40F
Wow looks smooth. Keep.up the great work
|
Re: Volvo A40F
WOW!!! every square inch of this screams masterpiece. If you don't mine I have a few questions, How did you attach the rubber bumpers for the rear suspension to the aluminum? How are you cutting the thin sheet metal? with your mill?
Again you are an amazing machinist. Skilled craftsman are becoming few and far between as the years go on Seeing this enforces the fact I plan to make my son learn a hands on trade as well as a college degree. I believe there will be a day when a college educated man will come 2nd to a well trained tradesman. |
Re: Volvo A40F
I've been making the tipping cylinders:) The piston diameter will be 12mm

Just make a tool in the channel width and entering decimal measures to the channel. Note:. Power off. |

I do have a lathe, but those keys I use are only 2mm thick and I'm not sure how well a self made high speed steel tool might last on that. But anyway with bigger ones it does work:) |
Re: Volvo A40F
Slow progress, but I got something done with the tipping cylinders:)

Re: Volvo A40F
Ari very nice job. I like the straps you put on the cylinders to hold the lines in place. The rest of your pluming looks great keep up the gpood work. Best Regards Ed
