Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Joe-I agree with Bo-that is very nice dozer work. The herky-jerky stuff I see on here sometimes makes me crazy. You and dirtpusher (d-9 joe) as I call him are the best R/C dozer operators I have seen. Speaking of the D-9. Will it ever work again or is it worn out?
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Well thanx Bo & Tom, much appreciated, I always try to put on a good show. :) Cooper puts on good show too with his D11. ;)
The 1/10th scale D9 still has earth caked on it from the 2012 St Louis meet, D9 Joe kept the radio for it & I haven't turned it on since... it'll last longer this way. :D :p I asked Frank his advice what he uses for rim slippage, this stuff is the same (so I'm told by my autobody guy) as the pic he showed me. https://s18.postimg.cc/pcgm8rbdl/005.jpg https://s18.postimg.cc/kdt3u7s55/004.jpg I thought I'd do my old B50 too, as I see rim slippage sometimes on the front axle when I try to back up a steep pile of lumps to start a new layer. https://s18.postimg.cc/h6ykalfex/003.jpg https://s18.postimg.cc/i98qt2t2h/001.jpg https://s18.postimg.cc/wfohobjd5/002.jpg Of course I couldn't help but wear some of it too  https://s18.postimg.cc/8bxq02b6x/006.jpg I found a nail in one of the tires, how's that for scale detail? :D https://s18.postimg.cc/i98qt4b2x/007.jpg https://s18.postimg.cc/hwhcmxddl/008.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Great idea Joe, will you be buying a caulking gun, to go with the rest of your cordless tools?
Cheers! Neil. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Hi Joe when are you going to get that big Cat dozer running? Ed
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Thats some scale paint wear on that dozer blade
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
No Neil, as little caulking as I do, the manual version will work just fine. ;)
Maybe when I retire in 6yrs Ed, this is an outdoor model... when it's nice outside in the summer I'm usually balls to the wall busy. Yes Marc, the other Joe got a nice shine on it. I let the joint sealer set for 36hrs, then tried to pull the grade loaded, the right two rears let go again  :( ...initially I could see the front of the adt lifting a lil, so it's pulling hard on two axles. So I took the axles from the cross dump, I already have the stub axles drilled & tapped for the hubs with roller clutches. Now the adt & pup runs up the grade like it were empty. :) https://s13.postimg.cc/dbr2vo3rr/001.jpg https://s13.postimg.cc/k27k563t3/002.jpg https://s13.postimg.cc/8puynei9j/003.jpg https://s13.postimg.cc/cyzopkdt3/004.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
I always enjoy the updates Joe. Thanks

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Thank you Ben... long overdue for you to do some updates on your own construction thread  :)

Great pictures and great construction site joe. You make it all look so easy.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Hello Joe been a while seance I have talked to you. You have the patients of JOB to do all that as long as you have done I would have gone nuts. I start something I like to get it done right away so I can see how it turns out. You have a great talent doing this. Ed

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Thanx Tom :)
Maybe it's my life's training in farming Ed, slow & steady maximizes profits   ...about a month away from 16hr days for weeks on end, stuck in a small tractor cab going round & round the same fields I've tended to the last 35yrs... that's getting harder to do each yr! ...this hobby is not a "have to" everyday, it's a "want to" whenever I feel like it. ;) Trip to the city today, new toy for the shop :) https://s18.postimg.cc/k4tbqhc7t/001.jpg A forklift would certainly be handy :D https://s18.postimg.cc/u24cjjrjd/002.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
So new lathe Joe what brand?
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
What made you guess that? :p
10x22 King https://s18.postimg.cc/48t1uiz0p/003.jpg https://s18.postimg.cc/trle7jy09/004.jpg What to do with this one? Unsuccessful finding a belt, pitch is approx 4.29mm or 0.1688... the 3 jaw is about the only salvage value. https://s18.postimg.cc/dtcohfbi1/005.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
I thought it was guess the new tool said bench lathe on the box
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Looks identical to my lathe. (Grizzly g(some number?) I have been happy with mine. Weather is starting to get better down here, at least more daylight. Been watching your progress and ideas with sorting material. Hopefully soon I'll be opening the screening site. Just have to build it ;).
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
On the old lathe, have you looked at something like a 'PowerTwist Plus' or 'Accu-Link' V belt?
My dad was able to get my grandpas old lathe running again with one of those after the local places couldn't come up with an off the rack belt. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Hey Joe, any numbers left on the belt?
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
I was fishing for guesses Neil, totally overlooked the lettering on the crate  :o :D
I thought maybe you would have had the next size bigger on 220v Cooper? I might regret it someday on a big job having 30% less power... short term screening plant, the vibrating flat screen with 1/8 inch hole has been working great, but I hope to get ambitious someday & build a tracked mobile shaker with conveyers. Thanx for the tips on where to look Frizzen, but I got rid of it a few weeks ago. There was nothing visible for company or model # on the belt Neil, and the manual was quite vague too. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Corrected my track chain skipping on my Izzy dozer, a local machinist suggested increasing diameter of sprocket to change the pitch. Original sprocket diameter was about 1.985 inch, 1st try at 2.125" got me nearly half there, 2nd try oh so close at 2.23", it still skips occasionally with a blade full going uphill... close enough for now.

Takes a pretty wide corner; was thinking adding a 3rd trailer, but is probably too long for indoor travels. Next build is a side dump trl for the 4206, hope to tip it with two or three Actuonix actuators, box dimensions will be the same as the belly dumps. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Just waiting for some videos now :) You got yourself a haul-beast :D

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
You betcha Emil, banged out about 20 loads yesterday... now I got a couple hrs of trimming to do with the dozer, did the east side of shop just before dark last night, it was crazy hot here yesterday, 35C, do the west this morning before the heat returns.

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Wow 82lbs of dirt!!! And the tractor with both trailers weigh 99lbs empty.
Are both trailers powered at the wheels? |

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Watching your video I was wondering with all wheels being powered and as long as the combination is, do you have any kind of problem with the wheels on the last trailer when making a sharp turn as the radius is so much shorter than the other axles?

Whenever I turn at about 45 degree or less, it's at half speed, the motors aren't working at full power they tend to behave like an open differential to some extent & usually no added tx stick movement necessary. Both trl chs on Slave are mixed with tractor being Master. |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Nearly finishing the 1st bench cut; I knew it was too high @17" with about a 2:1 slope, the hoe was 3" from the edge but it was always sinking a little as I reached out to fill the trls. Dozer time, new bench about 6" high will make loading much easier & SAFER! It'll be three more bench cuts to get down to the hardpan.

I forgot to put down my eave extension last night :o ... got some dump trk hauling to do to fix the road :D :p https://s33.postimg.cc/b6qwlznin/004.jpg https://s33.postimg.cc/bjiasantr/005.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Wow, that cross dump is a beast!
Glad to see you've got some time to play again |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Thanx frizzen, it has been an enjoyable couple of weeks in the shop, cross dumps have been working awesome, I like my redesign of the hopper doors on the 2nd trl, I think I will zip disc the doors off the 1st trl & make the same... after summer hauling. ;)

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Hey joe estimated time till job completion

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Can't believe how smooth and flat you get the benches! More dozer videos please!

Re: LilGiantsConstrCo

nice pics joe and the sorting sure makes for some nice material. hopefully before too long I get my screening project up and running. you don't get too much rock up there do ya, that crusher you have is that primarily used to break hard clumps? |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Ah moving out the stock pile Mark? Try to get it all out before the white stuff comes again... I finished clearing that lil bench today, it's been so incredibly hot here last 2 wks with a few rainy days too, spend early mornings doing odd jobs on the farm, hide in the shop during the heat of the day & some nights an hr before dark hauling out or blading... get it done in moderation, don't wanna be too fast at it :D
Thanx Jim :) dirt is quite dry & grainy, easy to blade smooth compared to the rocky/lumpy dirt you tangle with in your videos... make yourself a screener & crusher like me & then you'll have nice dirt to work with too. ;) That lil dirt pile took about an hr to smooth out, you'd probably be the only one patient enough to watch it all. :D For sure Cooper, the screening & crushing activities add to the enjoyment value in keeping the equipment moving, ;) :D Not a lot of rock?... I guess that depends on what you consider a lot of rock... in my soil I have everything from garden pea size/sand to watermelons.... not far from home I have some fields with rocks the size of Datsuns, when they get to sticking out of the ground too much, I then get the local TLB to either fish them out & skid 'em to the nearest rockpile or if they're too big to handle the op will dig a deeper hole to roll the rock into to get it a few feet below the surface, I likely won't see it again in my lifetime. Everything from hardball & smaller rock goes thru the crusher, anything else larger gets hand picked & hauled away in my Ranger. ;) What's left for fines https://s8.postimg.cc/kk5vum8hh/001.jpg Some rainy days in the last week, crushed some dirt lumps & rock https://s8.postimg.cc/y12udpvqd/002.jpg Got a big pile to put the thru crusher before winter  https://s8.postimg.cc/gza0bp96d/003.jpg |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Ya, I would call that a big pile!
Jim |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
I'm glad to see there's a possibility for more videos coming on Youtube :D
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Looks almost finished. Time to start hauling it all back inside again. Once it's filled in again, then you can dig er out again!
|
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Skeeter, the back of shop is my holding area from winter digging, got get it empty so I can dig some more... finally nearing the end of the dirt piled up from the tunnel dig a few yrs ago (about 28 cubes)... finish the tunnel this winter, cutting in the steps & get back to digging the basement floor.
A lot of hot days in the last couple weeks, last week in the 40's... the dirt lump pile just about gone https://s15.postimg.cc/xm4iya7p7/002.jpg https://s15.postimg.cc/m9rxgkjln/003.jpg East & west sides of shop are pretty to close to finished; now dumping on the north side, build up a sharp taper to the edge of trees. https://s15.postimg.cc/rxy87ey7v/004.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXWs4jy6mzo |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Joe,
You probably already answered these questions, but is your crusher just a typical jaw crusher and are you running dry dirt thru it? Any trouble with clay sticking to the jaws? How do you have it set? Pretty close? Looks close from the fines you make. 40! That is hot even me, a Fahrenheit guy, thinks that is hot! The only few I have memorized is 0-32, and 28-82 so 40 is HOT! Jim |
Re: LilGiantsConstrCo
Nice work Joe-enjoying the videos as always.
