Nice truck Andy. Your "dolly" trailer is also called a jeep here in the states.

Re: JBC limited NZ

a quick update.
the dozer has been stripped and I have made tensioners for the tracks.
just a tube inside the track body with some heavy springs, seems to work nicely.
made up some brass wheels and these need bearings fitted, but for testing a bolt will work short term.
also widened the the track body by 30mm for some extra clearance form the body to avoid rocks getting jammed between tracks and pannel work.
also modified the blade and made some new arms for the blade.
next i will redo the tracks with some new pads.
then it will all be stripped again and sand blasted and a new paint job.
later on I will replace the rams with faster acting ones.
its 4:50 in the morning so that will do for now.

cheers andy

Re: JBC limited NZ

had a bit of spare time tonight so,
all wheels fitted with bearings, made a bit of a stuff up and predrilled wheels and body and used 8mm bolts to hold it all together, the bearings im useing are 5mm centers, problem sloved by tigging some pannel washers to body.
also cheated a little and fitted teflon runners for tracks , and added a cutting edge to the blade.
Im going to redo the ripper set up as I think it looks rubbish.
got a fear bit of clean up to do with the dremmel and a bit of sanding but its getting there.

any way picts of tonights efforts.

I don't think I have ever seen a vid of this dozer pushing? It looks like it'll mover a mountain!

You don't get snow there... why the sandbox in the shed? Your toys are getting too big for that! Time to get busy building a construction park outside in the wide open.

Re: JBC limited NZ

We have had snow once. As for cold and wet we do that well.
I do agree with moving outside. I have about 100 square meters planned for a play area.
in the comming weeks I will make a start.
have just finnished the ripper and I start my days off tomorrow so will do a video of the dozer getting dirty before I paint it.

Re: JBC limited NZ

weather was pretty average today so I made an executive decision and painted the dozer, here's a couple of pictures showing the travel of the ripper.
I will be making a new blade set up and going with a large single ripper in stead of the three blade set up.
I have run out of paint so off to get some more made up, will pick up some more aluminium and do some new track pads, they will be 15mm wider than the original ones, so traction wont be an issue, these will be nut and bolt , no more pop rivets.

Hi Andy, I think you have alot of energy on tap. Just wondering have you been able to pull that dirt bike out and ride it lately?

Re: JBC limited NZ

I love the paint box, I built a drying /oven a while ago to speed up drying time and now that the paint is dry I can continue the build.

not sure on the black blade? also going to cut it so that it can be moved with two more rams.

the wife picked up a new driver for the dozer, not sure he gets on well with bob the truck driver .
as for the dirt bike I sold my Yamaha TRX 850 a while ago, too many speeding tickets , but I replaced it with a Yamaha WR 450 so technically I can ride a dirt bike most days, usually on one wheel on the way to work .
back to building.

cheers andy

Re: JBC limited NZ

Im with you on the black blade. It is gone tomorrow.
Almost finnished the cab. All steel with windows.

Re: JBC limited NZ

its been a few years now since CAT changed the color scheme on dozers and skidders.
Nightshift operators complained of glare from the hood and blade on dozers. That's when Cat started painting the top of hood and backside of blade black.Same with skidders, top of hood black and the grapple boom and arch black to minimize glare.
No need to worry with RC's about glare and no matter what you choose it will be right and look great. Nice work

Re: JBC limited NZ

cheers Mario,
I don't like the black, my youngest thought it would look cool, we have changed our minds but will do the hood a mat black and blade cat yellow.
the cab is almost done and needs windows fitted, a roof and roll bar set up.
the leds have turned up so that's another job to do, then rewire .

should be finished by Christmas....
