I may have to use this thread for reference on my build. Your Pete is looking really good, but wat makes it a half breed, I'm just curious.

Thanks, when I named it that my plan was to use a Wedico Peterbilt cab. That did not happen but even still the only parts that are Tamiya right now are the frame rails, floorboards and spring shackles. Everything else is aftermarket, different brands.

It seems very rare to see any truck that's not a mutt. Everyone seems to get some parts here and other parts there and they all come together in the end.

This build is bringing back memories of when I first found the forum and was in awe of hillbilly deluxe build. I'm in awe again. When you build, you build them right Craig.

Let's not take 4 years till the next build ok?

Haha! Thanks Mario. I'm going to try and keep going on this one, don't plan on dragging this out. Really hoping to get this one on all of here wheels soon, then I would really like to buy a lowboy and dozer to pull around.

Great trucks take time, like good bourbon you can't rush

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.

This almost made me cry last night, my headlights have a tendency of loosening them selves up and it is hard to get them very tight because you can't get a tool on the bolt head. The ear that holds the RH headlight on broke off. I don't see anyway of fixing it. I love this grille but these ears and the hood ornament are so delicate not sure if I want to buy another or look else where. This is the most detailed grille I have ever seen.

You might be able to solder it , I wouldn't write it off so soon if you don't want to let it go.

Just talked with the bay seller, He is making me a new one just like the one I had but said he will make it stronger where the headlights bolt up. I feel better now.

That's good to hear, I'm glad you're getting a new stronger one!

Best bet would be take it to a tig welder and see what they say for a nice clean weld and re drill the hole sand it smooth at home and repolish it once done...as it would be a waste of a good grill, unless you want a trophy peice for you work area...
Also replace the bolts with alen head screw with loctite once there in the right position, then cut a alen key to length so you can easly get to it.....

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.

When using an AWD front axle and setting it forward for a correct Peterbilt look there isn't much room to work with. I tried several servo mounts and several configurations. I came up with this;

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvlfwds5l.jpg
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...psa9d1kxte.jpg
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps38hhbl8z.jpg

To get things in this configuration I needed another knuckle ear, couldn't get Rigid or any of the other sellers to sell me the knuckle ear, yes, I sent them photos to make sure we were talking about the same parts! Anyhow, I ended up buying a second front axle to steel the parts from. I wanted to get the geometry right, or atlas right in my twisted way of thinking. I am getting a huge stock pile of extra parts!

I hate these trucks!!!

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.

Kind of an update. I haven't given up but things have been moving slow. I bought some Air Breathers, Front Bumper and Wheels from Steve. I love the wheels so much but was not happy with the ride height at all, way high in the front. That lead to me removing the driven axle up front and installing an Integy front axle kit. When moving the axle forward to a correct Petebilt location and trying keep the shifting and steering servos in their stock location there just really isn't enough room for a driven axle without going really high and kind of ugly. There was an issue with mounting the front bumper so it is back at Steve's shop, I'm confident He will get it sorted out for me. I also put the Tamiya 3 speed back in it for now, it has an aluminum case, brass gears and stainless synchronizers topped of with the heatsink end caps with are mostly just for looks. If I stay with this transmission I will be installing a gear reduction also.

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.

Not much to report, I have a few parts on order but today I got this bumper in the mail from Steve, it's awesome! I had to make two bushings to move it slightly forward because I have the axle slid forward, barley clears those big fronts but it clears!

Thanks Steve!:):):)
