Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Very nice video!!
You should think about locking one axle.. number 5 for instance! Cheers Pip |
Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Nice video, Kerst. That block swinging that close to your operator's cab could make him very nervous if he was along for the ride.lol Still ready to see this thing make a lift.

amazing build, would love to see it in 1/14!

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Progress has been slow during the summer.
I mainly worked on many details and little improvements everywhere. On the upper I added 3 outlets, 2 in the front and one in the back for functions like the telescoping and luffing winch for when the derrick mast is attached. I also added a couple of switches ( a toggle switch and a 3 position rotary switch) on the upper (2nd picture) to switch between functions. I have only 3 2-pole circuits coming through the slewing ring. This way i can switch between functions. http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/5...ront913201.jpg http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/5...ear9132011.jpg Kerst |
Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
i've been watch this build from the begining and have seen all the video's and cant wait to see the final product as this crane is becoming a peace of art .

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
This is just unbelievable, can't believe I'm just now seeing this! I've never in my life seen anything this hardcore built. Kerst, you truly are a professional I envy your abilities man:D >Marty<

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
This is truly one awesome build. It hasanswered a few questions I had on how to do my build. You have done a great job....can;t wait for the next post on it!

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
I spent the past month figuring out the mechanism to extend the 3 boom sections.
It is somehow based on the Liebherr system, one section at the time. I use a spindle, which propels 2 pins, which can hook into the bottom of each section and push it up. The whole assembly can rotate and with 3 positions available I can choose which section to extend. the motor is mounted on the side of the boom where the real one has an oil tank for the same function. Once in place the sections get locked manually. http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/341...ope2102520.jpg http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3...ope1102520.jpg kerst |
Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Very interesting. I confused on the timing of each section though. I see you are using a fast lead screw to advance the sections. Does it have multiple leads? More pictures when you get a chance.

To reach full boom length the last section goes out first, then the one but last and then the second one. I am using a hi-lead screw (http://www.roton.com/Mating_Componen...family=7060762) with multiple leads just to speed it up a bit. It has to travel about 22" for each section and it will take about 25 - 30 seconds for each. I think one motor will do it, but there is the option to have another motor on the other side (easy to add). This screw has a high efficiency. I tried it by hand and it works very nicely. I chose this screw partly to keep the weight down. An 3/8" acme screw is sooo heavy and has a lower efficiency. I will make some more pictures later. kerst |
Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
What an amazing piece of art. I always find it wonderful to see when somebody can build something like that. Awesome!!

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
I tried it out and it works quite smoothly, but one motor is not enough, so I added the other motor. Here is a picture of the assembly:

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Amazing stuff, Kerst. Serious machinery here, and working in 1/24 scale only makes it that much more impressive. I watched the video. I've always loved the look of the reeving on 1/1 cranes, and yours definately captures the effect! I'm building a crane too, and your engineering skills humble me.

Oh my God! There aren't even words. Simply mind blowing!!!

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
I worked on the boom quite a bit. The telescoping mechanism is ready and I did some detailing, which is almost finished.
Next I will be testing the boom and getting ready for the Cabin Fever Expo in January. http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/4...01144458pm.jpg http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/4036/img0273pq.jpg Kerst |
Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Looking good Kerst. Keep at it I know I am too. Can't wait to see this and all of your cranes in person.

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Cant wait to see video of the telescope mounted to the truck! Epic build sir!

Re: Liebherr LTM1800 scale 1/24
Most impressive Sir! I hope you will post alot of videos from cabin fever! I know im not the only one who want to see this rig in action!
