Your work is amazing! I can't wait to see more progress pictures!! Keep up the good work!

Re: Volvo A40F
I made the cab mounting posts and the cab bottom plate today.
Pretty soon I must decide how I'm going to make engine hood and all the curved cab parts, maybe 3D print... I've seen some great 3D printed projects here so I know it's possible, but the problem is that I have no idea how to do the 3D modelling of the parts. Do you 3D experts know if it's possible to 3D scan the 1:50 scale hood and resize that to 1:14, or is it too small to begin. Here's a rough picture of the hood so you get the idea. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pseszbdxvy.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pso7qx1zks.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psbk8x8s26.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Big CAD packages have scale functions so theoretically it is possible. However, I would recommend paying few bucks to a CAD specialist who will model you all the necessary parts and you can print them out in whatever size you need. Then you won't lose details, can print parts separately etc.

Re: Volvo A40F
Thanks Madda, that might be the way to proceed:)
I managed to make the cab side panels today, luckily the cab is basically a simple box, minus the roof:mad: so no need for 3D printing there. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psx6f7gkqw.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps4flzxkz0.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Hi Ari, I would like to say that I followed all your builds and I believe you transform all your equipment in a peace of art working on metal. You should continue doing it all the way trough in my opinion. But, If you have the Idea of add some plastic parts, then http://www.fumotec-shop.de/modell-ko...b40d/index.php has the parts for cab for sale. also you can take a look at premacon if you want. Definitely way easier, but not even close to what you have made so far.

Re: Volvo A40F
Hey Ari i did a bit of research on 3D scanners and was thinking the same as you or maybe a possible purchase of one ..the technology is not quite there for the do it your selfer but very close ..detail and quality have a bit further to go ..There are some companys that do sell 3D cad drawing of complete construction machines..I was looking for the Volvo A40 recenlty but only so far came up with this one http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/download.aspx?3dmodel=85249 there are many more of these types of web sites avaiabe to down load..might send you on the right track ..BTW ..looking awsome

Re: Volvo A40F
Ari, why don't you just make it out of aluminum? You have great metal skills and a TIG so it shouldn't be impossible. At least then you are not using plastic on a model in which you have put so much effort into making from metal. Just my 2 cents. I know you can do it!

Re: Volvo A40F
I agree with Reg, I believe the skills needed are there!

Re: Volvo A40F
Thanks guys for your advice and thoughts :)
I actually have made some frame arches for the hood earlier. I will try to go on with that way, but I not sure how that will turn out:confused: Got some parts for the cab done, the fire wall and the rear wall. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps5czyeitx.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psgazxqcra.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Awesome build !! I agree with Reg and Trucker Jo. Try to make the cab from metal. From your past builds, you have the skills to do it. It just takes a lot of nerve to try. You might want to go with brass or copper instead of aluminum. I wish that I would have tried to make the cab on my Studebaker US6 out of metal instead of modifying a Tamiya truck cab.

Re: Volvo A40F
I made more parts for the cab, the roof and the door. And while I had the brass plate on the machine table, I made the upper shock bracket:)
In the picture there's also the wheel arc that I made earlier. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psy2dphddn.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psx8arnosp.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psa8gbdgdf.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
looks good Ari keep it up you'll be complete before you know it. Then snap a pic of all your machines together

Re: Volvo A40F
I made some parts for the fenders. So that it wouldn't be too easy both sides are different, on the right side the air filter housing comes thru the wheel arc.

See you can do it! Where do you get the checker plate from Ari?

Re: Volvo A40F
Have some faith in yourself and get out that TIG welder. You'll have it done in a snap!
Thanks for the link. |

ARi you have performed some excellent work on this modell

Re: Volvo A40F
Wow, it's an outstanding work of art. I've been following since the 1st post.

Re: Volvo A40F
Thanks guys :)
Today I made the inner fenders and the cab air intake/filter box. It will also have fender extensions, but I didn't have the material for those, so I will add them later. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psanbdo7hr.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...pstfgniase.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psokonkrlt.jpg |

Wow you sir have an amazing talent keep up the hard work!

Re: Volvo A40F
Outstanding work!!! Drilling the holes in the step plates is bad enough but then to add all of the dimples is just over the top like all of your builds. PLEASE keep up the up dates!!
