Re: Volvo A40F
Hi guys, finally I got time and inspiration to continue this:)
Meanwhile I've been doing one bigger construction machine project to a friend and lots of other machining jobs. The problem with this A40 was the engine hood that turn out to be hard to make. I was thinking 3D printing but that's not so simple either, mainly due the 3D modeling part. So I will try to make it in aluminium and brass. First I made the frame that the sheeting will attach. This may still fail but lets try it anyway:( http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psujipdxx6.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psb6gaigzv.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psriie0sdc.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psjjneyhsq.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psfbt4jhke.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psvx5p4phq.jpg |

Re: Volvo A40F
Awesome!

Re: Volvo A40F
If you can handle those curved surfaces like that you're ready to tackle a boat next!
|
Re: Volvo A40F
So.... all that "heavy" frame work going to impede on your space availability for hyds & electrics in the nose? ...or are you making a puck for vacuum forming?
|
Re: Volvo A40F
I put the hood aside for a while as my good friend Steve will try to 3D print it:):)
So meantime I made the cross stay for the front axle:) http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psds6kl5yw.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
Beautiful work as always, Ari!
Best regards, Stein :-) |
Re: Volvo A40F
I'm working with the diff lock cables. I was first thinking to put the bogie axle operating servo somewhere to the rear frame, but I can't hide it anywhere there. So it has to be in the front. I'd like to be able to lock the front and back bogie axles separately, but I'm not sure will I be able to squeeze both of the servos to the front.
I also started to paint some of the parts:) I first got Volvo CE yellow from a auto paint shop but it was not the right tone. Then I bought Volvo original colors. http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps2gqcxlut.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psg6fmgewe.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...psros9q1ec.jpg http://i327.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps3jmjd0qn.jpg |
Re: Volvo A40F
I have continued painting and also added decals to the dump body:)

Re: Volvo A40F
The paint has dried, and I started to put the rear carriage back together:)

Re: Volvo A40F
Wow that looks amazing. On another note, I see you have an everlast welder, how do you like it? I am currently looking at one and just curious if they are worth it or to save for a miller?
Thanks, Chris |
Re: Volvo A40F
Those paint cans you've got there seams to be real deal) Any special kind of primer and preparation of the surfaces before top coat that you prefer better when it comes to aluminium?
|
Re: Volvo A40F
Quite amazing as always!
|
Re: Volvo A40F
Pure art!
Was the truck more of a challenge than the grader build? And are you going to keep this one ? :) |
Re: Volvo A40F
Pretty awsome Ari..good to see some color..the diff lock cables look nice and neat as well..always look forward to your builds and inspire me to try and make mine look as good ..you set the bar high though ...nice work

Re: Volvo A40F
This is beautiful, i am speechless.
|
Re: Volvo A40F
Thanks guys:)
Trucker47, the Everlast is good enough welder for me, but in many places you can tell it's Chinese made. Supermario, I think the engine hood makes this more challenging than the grader was. Rimrock, I use aluminium primer for the alu parts and I also blasted many parts with glass beads. |
Re: Volvo A40F
Looking SUPER Ari!!

Re: Volvo A40F
This dumptrucks looking awesome. Were all the chassis placards homemade or a kit? The diff lock setup looks killer.
I'm kinda suprised with the amazing work everywhere around here that nobody really seems to go full-on when it comes to prep and painting aluminum. I guess our equipment probably doesn't need it quite like the real stuff. |
