over the last couple of days Ive been struggling to dig in my chosen area due to the compacted gravel, the dozer can rip most of the rocks but its slow going.
Then I had a brain explosion, lets make a rock ripper bucket.

I ran out of gas and its unfinished but I had to test it.

Magic, digs great and moves the rocks no worries, its a little small and will take a little while to clear away all the rocks but now I have reached the dirt.

got sick of swapping buckets so I made a manual quick change.
started with this .

Good work on the quick attach & rock bucket.

Rock bucket will be great for trenching, but I think a ripper tooth to rip a large area & then use a big digging bucket to clear the cultivated area would go a lot faster.

morning all,
cheers Joe, now that I have the quick attach sorted the ripper sounds like a good plan.
I also have the original bucket , not much good for digging as its lightly made and bends under load.
the plan for that one is hit it with the splitter blade and make a screening bucket, don't know how much use it will be but at least it wont take long to swap over.
cat 322, its the china buy excavator, have swapped all hyd lines for high pressure lines, swapped out the pump and motor, valve bank and esc's for RC4WD set up.
same as my RC4WD excavator, will also have to reinforce a few of the boom mountings as they are pretty light and also need some bushes made.
this will be a test for my young fella to see how good he is using the mill and lathe.
all the hyd parts will be transferred to the rock truck for the tipper and steering,

I got it of the buy china web site, just had a quick look and its now on aliexpress web site.
If I were you I would get the shell and fit rc4wd hydraulics and radio gear.
It is lightly built compared to the rc4wd excavator.
I would also cost it all up and do a compare to buying the rc4wd excavator , I know its not as nice to look at but its a turn key and dig machine that will last longer than the KAT excavator.

had a bit of a play with the new set up, digs pretty good.
sound is terrible, lap top that I used to video this , its mic still has issues that will soon be fixed with a hammer... :mad:

ok took joes advice and made me a ripper, run out of time so the paint job will have to wait, haven't even tested it yet.

That looks like cold rolled steel you're using :thinking:, if so, you'll probably loose your point pretty quick & the tooth will not be effective.

This tooth I made, not very prototypical of anything, but it works very well. Those are 3" ardox nails that I weld on... they wear out eventually, cut 'em out, weld on new ones. The width of the shank is 3mm.

It was -18 here today with the wind chill @-28 & I didn't find it too bad with a couple of layers of clothes... getting acclimatize I guess. :/

I think that's why they call it Canada cold, been there years ago and seen what happens to washing left on the line over night. LOL
Im going to talk to one of the engineers at work tomorrow and see if we cant put a hardened edge on the ripper.
have made a video and uploading now , I tel you it makes for easy digging once its ripped up and way quicker.
I made the blade so it can be unbolted and swapped out so can try different shapes and sizes, but this one seems to work nicely.
Just need to set up conveyors and start feeding the screening plant, unfortunately im back on shift so it will have to wait.
oh by the way its +28C today...
stay in your shed and keep warm.

Do you have dual rates or flight mode in your radio programming? If so, lower your EPA settings for valves & swing so it makes your stick throw on the gimbles less sensitive & you will have much finer control while trying to change attachments. Then you can switch to a different rate of throw for digging.

On airplane radios it's usually just aileron, eleveron & rudder that have dual rates, and with Fmode you can change throttle curve per mode to achieve the same characteristics as dual rates.

When I 1st started rc excavator in 2001, I operated my model much like the way you are now. Something that was said to me by an experienced machine operator after showing him my model, "what separates the best from the rest is how much the tracks move around while digging at full capacity of the machine".

I don't wish to be mean or rude, but rather be helpful to guide you to operate your model with greater finesse & professionalism, it makes watching videos of what you're doing more enjoyable. :)

cheers joe, I have the standard flysky radio that came with it, I would like to have a go at changing how much the valves open and swing speed to achieve a slower movement as to make swapping the attachments easier.
Since i never got a manual with the modle i havent messed with the radio settings, figured if I messed the settings up I wouldnt know how to get it back to what it was.
I know it has a flight mode , will search internet for a manual, did you change any settings on your rc4wd excavator to make it smoother and if so do you remember what they were .
as Im new to these multi channel radios I have some learning to do, but am not affraid to have a go now as there are plenty of guys here that are willing to share there knowledge to help an amature like me.

Nice job on the ripper Andy, one came with my 944b but not had chance to use it yet, I didn't think I would but after seeing yours maybe I'll give it a go!

On the radio, I've added curves to the valve channels, so when you move the sticks the valves only open a tiny bit to start with, makes small movements much more controlled, the same curves also ramp the pump speed up.
