Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Very nice tires:) Is there any information online, how they were produced?
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
At least there used to be such information. However, it was written in German and, the last time I saw it, the picture links were dead. I'll try to find the article again.

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Sorry, I´ve only been able to locate this German posting on the tire making (see post #8). And you have to be registred :(
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Thank you Stefan, i will check it!
Edit: for some reason, the link is not working for me. |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Sure you're not building a 1:1 grader? I'm not sure what I appreciate the most; your patience or handcrafting skills :)
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
it is very very nice work good on you a master at work:D
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Stefan, you'r setting the bar very high now. Those details will make this grader stand out. As mentioned above, is this 1:1??
/Dan |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Thank you Emil, Jack and Dan! Yeah, trying to keep it scale. 3D printing takes you a long way, but you still see the layers. Suppose some careful grinding could take care of that.
Now, machining of the lift cylinder arms has been almost completed. Just need to fill out some shrink holes (and grind out the layered structure :p). Drilled and reamed to 14 mm. https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...FBXQ2VlYmt2dms https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...XpHY0dvWElQV0E https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...3Q1MXBLNXhjU0E Bushing with a 12° conical hole for an indexing lock pin. https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...TJGdHZ0ZEV0ZEE https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...TlkbTAxREFjdVE https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...HVQeWNQTUJ3cXc The indexing lock pin mechanism (still to be made) will be attached on the rear side of the plate with the "key hole". https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...nVqalZVV0hQYU0 https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...kY3ME9WMURJTjg https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...nhYRHpxN0UydDA Cheers! :jaw::jaw::bounce::bounce: |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
I have always wanted to make a model as close to scale as possible. I'm more oriented towards the mechanical workings and trying to relate that to our scale versions. I know you have a tremendous amount of hidden work, set up, jigs, precision measurements, ect,,,,, but this is really paying off!! Very nice!! An inspiration for me when I think it can't be scaled down.
Looks really really good Stefan !! |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Nice work
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Outstanding work!!! What are the extra 2 holes in the covers that you just made for? Could they be for jack bolts to remove the covers with? Just a guess!!!
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Thanks very much guys. Yes, Lynn, you are right. Those covers sits quite tightly. The specification says "blade down force capability 11 058 kg (24,457 lb). Don´t think the screws alone would cope with that for a long time (guess the real screws are 1/2 inch dia.). I use M1.6 (about 1/16 ") in the model.

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Found some additional pics which should have been posted a long time ago :o Some caps and screws added.

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
This is fenomenal!

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
What to say:)
and at 5am, you must be kidding Stefan. |

Nice work on the bearing extraction.

Volvo G990 Grader 1:8 - Small update
More than overdue as the old cloud provider disabled the direct picture linking  (luckily the old links are still valid). In the meantime the indexing bar and (all) cylinders were finished.

Re: Volvo G990 Grader
:jaw::jaw: WOW!!!!! Looks terrific! Only thing is, where are the grease fittings on the bearing blocks???
Just kidding! This is one outstanding build. |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Thanks Lynn!
The grease fitting seats are at the arrows. They just haven´t been fitted yet. The central grease hole is barely visible in the next pic. https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...GF0WnR6N3U2Uk0 https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B_yT...F91NG5EUzd3T3M Not kidding ;) Stefan |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
You just got elevated to a master craftsman:jaw: I was looking more for a grease fitting in the bearing block not the ball joint itself. What other thing have you put in this work of art that you haven't shown us yet?!?!
Second thought- you are way above a master craftsman!! |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
So why can't I see the pictures, Lynn you got x-ray vision. Been following this from the beginning, first time I'm not seeing it?!
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Me neither... Whould be good to see these pictures too :)
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Nice clear up close pics!! No idea why you can't see them.
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
The build is well beyond my imagination. Just can't believe this is a model. Amazing craftsmanship!
Ken |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
do you have any pics of the whole model thats is together would love to see model as built so far
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
(changed browser...) Very nice details, congrats again!
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
Oh lordi lordi ......When awesome goes Brilliant .....:) Just waiting for the miniature grease gun to be made.........:D
P.S. Grader is on my must have item list. |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader 1:8
@All: Thanks a lot for the positive comments.
@Lynn: Ok, I was kidding a bit :o The grease fittings will not be operational - but coming to think of it... :D @Kent: Hope you can see the pictures now. @Jack: Yeah, haven´t had it all put together for a long time now, so think that would be a good idea. But no such pics at the moment. Sorry! @Bo: Hopefully someone else builds the miniature grease gun :D Maybe some day in a very far future my second grader will be for sale ;) Stefan |
Re: Volvo G990 Grader
if this is a 1/8 scale what do you expect the final weight to be around
|
Re: Volvo G990 Grader 1:8
Simply based on scaled down real weight I estimate it to be at least 40 kg. Extra implements like ripper and front blade not included.
