Haha, no problem Steve. I went through that trying to find them a couple of years back. Couldn't find any either at first until I tried different wording.

I have just sent you a PM.

I did some brass work with the exhaust system. I think most of you guys would do these with 3D printer, but as I don't own one yet, brass it is:)

Nice brass work. Making something for this build on a 3D printer would almost be a crime! I know you are having difficulties with the hood. So a printed part there would be justified.

I totally agree with Lynn, your skills are far beyond 3D printing, the brass work is amazing! :D:D

Hi guys :)
I threw the electronics to the still unfinished A40 and made this test drive video.

Are you sure you just didn't shrink a 1:1 machine? It's just so scale looking.

Hemi1966 07-07-2017 11:36 AM

Re: Volvo A40F

I took the A40 and the 374 excavator outside and thought that I make a little loading and unloading video, but that did not go as planned. First I blew the oil return hose on the 374 (again) and a little bit later the planetary gear unit on the A40 tear down it self:mad::mad::mad: The bogie axles are in a quite side stress when doing tight turns on heavy load. I was doing a tight turn on a concrete surface and I noticed that the bogie wheels tends to "fall under", if you guys know what I mean. And soon after that one wheel with the hub came off. Apparently the planetary gear outer hub is only press fitted:mad:
No real damages done, but I'm a bit worried will the hub stay in place after I push it in, maybe I use some retaining compound.

Re: Volvo A40F

What I did to fix the planetary gear problem was I tig welded few spots on the end of the drive shaft, so that the planetary gear hub can't move outwards.

I should have realized that when I was making the axles, but I didn't :o

Hey awesome work!! Really!! Do you have a vacuum table? I see the mat material and I know one of the companies uses that material for vacuum fixtuerimg. If so do you like it? Been debating on vacuum vs outsourcing flat parts. Double sided tape has been working but pita to remove!!

Yes I have a vacuum table and at it's best it is great. But when machining a thin materials the mill cutter tends to lift the plate and then it comes loose. By hand you can't move the plate you are machining sideways, but when you lift a corner it's quite easy to detach. I usually run in to problems with under 1mm thicknesses.

Cooper 07-10-2017 07:09 PM

Re: Volvo A40F

Understand, been using wax and that has lifted a couple times also. Went back to using double sided tape. It's a lot more clean up on table plate and part but haven't had any lifting :).

Glad you brought up the turning forces, I would have never thought of sidewall forces under sharp turns. Really great work your doing!!

I think normal solder melting point is about the same, so you have a risk of melting joints.

Re: Volvo A40F

I got the first 3D print of the bonnet from my buddy Steve. It turn out nicely, all though it is actually a test print to see how it fits to the rest of the machine.
It needs some small adjustments and after that I think it's going to be perfect:)

The first one was too wide and too short.
