Have just found the manual for radio so will be doing a bit of study. Lucky im at work and no excavator.
means I will read all instructions before messing it up.

I got a radio manual with my RC4wd hoe, but the English translation was quite poor & didn't offer much sensible info anyway... my model didn't run long enough to let me do much with it.

I recall changing servo travel (EPA) & it being easy to find/to do in the programming, though I don't remember the sequence of what I did today. I think you want to look for either servo adjustment or servo travel to find the EPA values.

While EPA values can be equal on both sides for bucket & stick, I usually program a very low value for boom down because of the effect of gravity... the Vario 850 has a very heavy boom/stick & @100% EPA will drop very fast with very little stick throw... currently boom down is 60% & up is 100%. The boom/stick on your model is considerably lighter, but on the other hand it still has a long boom & stick and gravity with have some effect with a bucket full of dirt... plus your hyd pump & motor is a poorly matched combo, you have too much flow & too much pressure for that size of model.

What I did with my Stahl excavators (22lbs gvw) to set hyd pressure was with the bucket perpendicular to the tracks, set the pressure so the stick could just barely pull the hoe sideways on hard ground (that's with both tracks staying grounded). The pressure was about 16-17bar with a 14mm stick piston. My Vario is just too heavy & that test is irrelevant, even @35bar with a 22mm stick piston, it doesn't have the hyd power to pull itself sideways. I see it advertised that china hoe weighs 44lbs... mine weighed roughly 32lbs with a NiMH 4amp battery.

thanks Joe, i notice mine will drop the bucket like a stone with too much stick movement and it will also pull it around too easily.
I will have a go at changing the epa for a few movements to get it more life like and dehorse power it.

If I read the manual( good translation) Ive got no excuses for messing it up.
but I may still ask some dumb questions till i figure it out.. :lol:

Hiya Andy. Loving your setup you got there. Just one question though. Does the King Hauler pull your 4200xl ok? Was just wondering as i am getting a 4200xl and i am already think about a low loader lol.

Hi ya chris. The king is fitted with a pmd 4:1 reduction box (in the retail section) bolts directly to the original gearbox and pulls my 35kg dozer no worries.
there is a youtube link some where on the jcb forum, even pulls wheel stands under load.
I stretched the frame and added an extra set of drive wheels for looks and added traction.
having said that my knight hauler (standard) will also pull the dozer, but not as easily.
once you get one piece of gear you will always need something else. Lol.

had the urge to have a play wit the king hauler, loaded up the excavator and grabbed a battery to find out that after 10 minutes that it wasn't fully charged.
dosent matter it was a good stress relief and I have a few more ideas of stuff I can do to the truck. lights , lock rear diff, the list just keeps growing.

as I have mentioned I may ask some dumb questions, well here is the first one.
I have had a play with the radio settings for the excavator, have managed to slow the rate the boom drops and also the rotation, really happy so far.
problem is that my pump is now going in reverse??
have checked all switch operation and seen how they work in the display screen, all looks as it should be.
pump starts when the switch is operated but in reverse, have reversed the switch but all that dose is change when the pump is on.

any ideas..

I take it you didn't remember what settings you changed then? Good idea to write down everything you change before changing it.

Think I got it sorted. Can any one tell me what direction the pump motor turns.
I have run the system dry due to a pump seal leak but have swapped the motor wires around to change direction and now have to bleed the system. Just need to know what way it should turn.
new pump should be here soon then it is back to digging.

Is the suction line from the tank to the pump see through? Even if it's a black line so you can't see the oil coming from tank, you should still be able to hear if the oil is being sucked from the tank or if the pump is blowing air bubbles into the tank.

Yes got direction sorted, pump seal at motor end has been leaking for a while ( new one should be here in days) by the sound of it it is probaly shot. I have arm movement but not enough flow to clear air properly so will wait for post man.
also will flush all lines and cylinders and replace oil as old oil was foaming pretty good.
but I did get to test new ripper.
it works much better with the curve, gets in under the rocks realy nicely.

What sort of hydraulic oil and what battery are you using in your 4200xl buddy?

The recomended oil as per rc4wd and a 6500 lipo.

Im uesing the tellus 15 equivalent which is a dte light by mobil as its free and avaliable at work.
the hydraulic guy here at work recomended it for the application but he insisted on a test drive just to make sure it was ok, that was almost two years ago. So I can say the mobil oil works, no leaks from ram seals.
lf you use an oil that is too light it will cause issues and the same if its too heavy.
got a quote for 20 liters yesterday $120.00 , its the smallest container they sell.
should last a long time.
