They are from wedico

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Got something done!! I almost forgot that some parts are easier to make than others,,, I printed the new wheel hubs. I haven't cleaned them up yet but I made a few with different widths to choose from.
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psubr3ccop.jpg I know it's not much but they are a bit more offset. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psjm0q2gv9.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psyd4ajwcg.jpg And got some Mario feed,,, http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psrfy7xbke.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psxxsfaa3h.jpg Some scrap aluminum handrail pieces I can use and the power supply I hope I can use. It's a transformer for low voltage lighting, outputs 12volts. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pszek8asuw.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Hey what the... Did you come here last night and steal those hand rail pieces? I better go check because I had the exact looking pieces behind my shop yesterday...lol The best hoarders think alike hey?haha!
I like the hubs! Thanks for 3D printing them. Now I wish I had my own printer even more! Jerk!:rolleyes: I see you changed out the front tires too. Did you have trouble with the first set coming off the rims? I have a set of those and they are poop as far as I'm concerned. They look great but don't fit the bead! |

Lol!! Sometimes I look at some parts that need made or fixing and cringe at how to machine them or how to set up the parts for machining. Then I realize how easy it is to design them on the computer and in a few min (45 min) have them in hand without cleaning up chips!! Love it!! And am realizing not everything needs to be made of metal. The abs is pretty strong stuff, same as Lego blocks. And yea tires are the perfect look but just not cutting it for work. Even with the foam which is pretty soft stuff I had some issues of rolling. Plus the added width reduced my turning radius by hitting sooner on leaf springs. It's not that much but a little bit helps. I don't like how the tires on now look like those spare doughnut tires compared to the wides but function wins over fashion for me. I even got bead lock wheels but they were even more narrow than the steel wheels I have on now. Ugg, oh well my collection of spare parts grows :) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
No...No....No!!!
Here's the plan Ralph. We both go visit Reg at the same time. You ride motorcross bikes with him while I load up the goods!:D:lol: we split the goods like this..... you get the kenworth and trailer but ill take the hoe , skidder and the 955K.... that still leaves him with a few toys atleast...:cop::lol::lol: Hmmm, I almost forgot about the old Euclid! I sure could use that in the pit! lol Man! that treadmill material is looking real good! not too thick but real strong. Does it stretch much? |

It sounds like you guys have this all figured out....I think I know how to botch Mario's side of the plan though...He just needs to get a look at my 2015 calender and he will forget why he was there....:bounce::bounce: Come to think of it, all three of us might forget why we are there:D.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Here ya go reg some more thought about 3d parts!! So far the only thing I think I have to buy or bought will be the angle iron, didn't have enough for the length. And motor. Speaking of motor , what speed should a conveyor be running at? 100rpm? 75? Everything I have runs like 1200 and up. I don't know if I should go the gear head reduction motor or chain/belt reduction drive. So give me some idea of what target speed I should be looking into. I don't know (yet) if I'm going the rc rout or going to a dial hard wired. Probably going to be shore powered so it may be hand dial for speed increase/decrease. I'm planning on moving about 2yards of cracker dust/ screenings to level under a 14 by 40 deck. Will be the perfect job for the rc stuff. And am planning on making two of these conveyors:). Maybe 3, still have to get to post office yet Mario :). Xmas presents lol!!
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psfj1znrms.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pszzmj3iwe.jpg And trying to keep it simple, the rollers are loose on shafts that just slide together. The middle shaft cannot come out when the side roller shafts/rollers are installed. I don't know how long things will hold up but acetal rollers on steel shafts should hold up pretty long. At least for a good bit of my use. If rollers rub on sides of housing I could always throw in some thin bushing/washers, the plastic kind. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psacdotf5x.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Well I thought after Christmas I would have a peaceful, eat lots of leftovers, uneventful , uninterrupted , casual, couple days to myself. My wife has gone to her grams house about hour away till Sunday, leaving me to myself. So far I have made three trips to folks house, once to drop off a generic pair of nut crackers my dad wanted! , only to find out he remembered he gave me them years ago and the ones he had were not as good!! Yea, he wasn't even eating shelled nuts!!! The dogs will not stop harassing me as wife is not here to coddle them!!! Had one work call, and I keep running into design issues with the conveyor!!
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psz6wpgadq.jpg I originally thought 8 sets of rollers would be good but once visualizing it I realize I need twice as many. http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psd96kftg0.jpg And twice as many holes to tap!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2wwzglh4.jpg |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Here reg, some old pics of amateur days. It's working towards Mario's plan, I'll go ridding with you while Mario fills up the box van!!!
http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...psfuogva9u.jpg http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pspdxymxxr.jpg Lol!! They were the days!!! And just for some of the animals lovers, Mr john D. Deer, he is a bit creepy, he resides in our bathroom, always looks down on you when you are looking up at him!!! http://i1357.photobucket.com/albums/...pshj8tkbvy.jpg |

Is the rest of him on the other side of the wall ? With a squirrel running around on his back and a dog checking his identity ? Happy new Year Mike

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Perfect form Coop!! there's 12 inches of snow on my track now or I'd be roostin it!!
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I know how to get you riding but still foil Mario's plan! I "might" have a few hoped up Honda 50's kicking around and the track for riding them is right in front of my house. This way we can all ride and I can keep tabs on Mario...lol

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Hey Cooper, use that drill, to help you figure out conveyor rpm.
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Great work on the rollers RW, now set printer replay to "100". (Seriously)
What's the width of the middle roller? I intend to go with 12v gearhead motors @75-100rpm. 12v deep cycle battery, take it anywhere. ;) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Thanks, that's the rpm I was thinking too. Yea, I realize I need rollers, rollers, rollers!!! I don't want a vibrating conveyor!! What I have in mind for power is to have everything running on 12v dc. Out back I have several 110v dc outlets that I could plug into while at home. By operating off 12v dc I will be able to have that option also if I set up somewhere remote. I haven't yet checked if my low voltage transformers work but pretty sure they do. Going to set up something with banana plugs, so connecting to transformer or battery will be simple. Now the hard part is if I want to build a swing assembly to dump material in seperate piles. And to have an elevation mechanism.

You want some? Might take a while to print. One roller bracket takes 44 min to print, then cutting some 1/8" shafts, and about 2min on the rollers. The rollers are made from 3/4" acetal, I didn't print them. Had a couple feet of acetal/delrin laying around. Speaking of have to get more, I purchased those off eBay, like $5 a foot of 3/4" stock. I looked at McMaster and other supply places and almost half price. So now knowing I need more I might try and find an even cheeper material. Mario gave me an idea of using wood with a cheep Teflon sleeve. Always looking for a cheeper alternative way. Because I now have to think of feeding another mouth!!! Lol!!! I owe ya reg for hooking me up with the awesome dump bed!! Had some time today so me and the psycho, totally defendant on the wife, slobbering on all my stuff, wouldn't leave me alone, pooping in my sandbox, Great Dane played in the pit. I tried to take some video but my "helper " kept knocking over the tripod. And got the big cat out. For some reason one of the tilt servos quit working. Pretty good servo, hitec, it was working fine for a demo when the I laws were here but stopped as soon as I got to pit:(. I hope I didn't mess something up with radio when I was setting up dump truck steering. Oh well something else to fix. I have to relearn the mixes for titandigs anyway. |

What kind of weather you have? When does ground warm up in your location? Farthest north I've been is Montreal or north of Vancouver , whistler. |

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Snow on the ground since early November, temps vary from -30 to +8C, December has been quite mild. Last couple Springs have been quite late, last wk of April - 1st week of May before the snow is done for the season.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I'm drooling RW ! Those 3D printers are amazing and also unfair to those of us without one.:cop::lol:
That's going to be one beautiful conveyor. Nice work so far. I agree about trying to keep projects like this cheap and simple. That's half the fun trying to use what's around you. I also like trying to keep the weight down. If I have to carry this stuff up from the basement a lot, I don't want it weighing a ton! |

A good comeback!!:) |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
I decided to use some flat top bracing in between rollers. If belt droops any it will slide on metal flats. Well that's the plan:). I don't know what kind of finish was on the perforated angle metal I am using. I sanded areas to be welded and still it did not want to arc well. Left a white soot like it has a zinc or galvanized coating. It appears to be just metal but was a pain to weld. It's turning into a fugly project, far from good but good from a far!!! I got the material from the scrapyard, and not always knowing what it is I guess. Not to mention I'm not that knowledgeable of welding.

Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Hey Cooper, surface prep! you can wire wheel or preferably a sanding disc, and take the coating off to bare metal. Just don't breath the cadmium fumes, they are toxic!
Cheers, Neil. |
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Your two main rails appeared to be galvanized which will explain the white looking residue and while welding the gas it puts off will contaminate your shielding gas from the welder. I am assuming you using a MIG welder and you would have to remove almost all of the coating and possibly acid wash the parts to get the most of it out but if it is good galvanizing you won’t get it all out.
|
Re: Great Dane excavating co.
Thanks guys, yes I guess prep would have , or should have been a first step instead of last step;(. I do have somewhat of a ventilation system, at least gets gas/fumes to the outside. Garage door opened a crack with window open with fan. Cold air rolls in from outside and warm air gets pushed out through top window. In wintertime it works pretty well. I figured with the white residue it was galvanized. I use to seeing galvanized stuff looking ruff and silverish. Again my ignorance will be my teacher for next time :).
