Time for a change
I have decided to rebuild this hook loader
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...2/nov09008.jpg into a traditional UK 4 axle lorry, called 8 wheelers over here. I've made a start http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...dad2/002-4.jpg, still using the same cab http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6eb0ae4c.jpg much more to come , much more work to do ! |
Re: Time for a change
Foden has too many curves on the cab :( Leylands are much easier to do:)
Done a bit more, http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...sdad2/0062.jpg |
Re: Time for a change
Your Leyland looks so awesome! I would need one someday to add to the fleet.

Re: Time for a change
I've done a little bit more to it;

Re: Time for a change
looking really good! one day I am going to try to build a twin steer axle truck.
|
Re: Time for a change
Thanks for the positives, twin steering is not too bad to do.
Out at a local meeting to give it a decent run to see what shook loose. It survived the trip and only one nut shook loose . http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...sdad2/0025.jpg |
Re: Time for a change
Hi Michael, the flat rack came out really nice, better than cardboard:p:p:D:D!

Re: Time for a change
Hi Kent,
And more waterproof too:D Needs a better load though, that Gen Shed has travelled a few miles on different trucks. |
Re: Time for a change
UKT,
That container on the bed, that one of the Bruder ones, and if so, whats the dimensions on the wee beastie? And thought of mebbe making one of these interesting machines? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAU7RAtUk7o I've even seen one variant that can side-lift a car (will try to dig up the vid link if anyone wants...) And by the way it uses the chain-suspension on the lower corners, one could even lift flatbed assemblies as well as boxes, and level, where the units you are use to use the hook&arm and drag it onto the bed. I'd be tempted, but hydraulics make me cringe... I'd have to start with one of the quarry-use articulated dumpers, or a wheel-loader. |
Re: Time for a change
Here is a link to the Bruder container
http://www.scalefarm.com/d-03900_mod..._container.htm The blue bottom pieces are behind the roll up sides as a standard fitting, the red top pieces of the sides on mine are plastic sheet. That side lift looks a challenge to make , maybe it could be operated by a screw mechanism and small motor rather than hydraulics. |
Re: Time for a change
I've got round to starting the trailer, it is a scale 20 foot long to fit in with the UK laws on maximum length for lorry and trailer
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...dad2/008-1.jpg This is how to park it the easy way http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...dad2/001-3.jpg Lots more to do to both lorry and trailer but just had to give it a try.:) |
Re: Time for a change
Looking great!
I have to say it looks a bit like cheating to me, parking it using the pointless on the front, Having said that, I know from experience how difficult these outfits are to reverse. Your truck wold look great inning next to my Merc 8 wheeler... Now there's a thought! |
Re: Time for a change
Adrian,
Your truck wold look great inning next to my Merc 8 wheeler... Now there's a thought! bring it on! Next Clumber meeting is on 12 May, could keep us amused for hours. It's not bad to reverse park but it's a lot easier from the front . You still have to get the steering corrections in early though otherwise the tangle up is much the same:eek::eek: The real drivers of 8 leggers and trailers used to park the trailers from the front hitch. Leyland were nice and kind and built in the front hitch into the front bumper beam so it was only fair of me to follow suit:D:D:D Makes reversing a semi - trailer seem easy:lol::lol: |

Re: Time for a change
i saw the ur second front axel it's not symetrical with first one,it's that effect the driving turn's?...good build.
|
Re: Time for a change
I think I understand what you are asking.
Without getting too complicated, the second steering axle has to turn less than the front one to avoid excessive wear on the tyres. so it makes turning better. |
Re: Time for a change
got ya.
