western star 4900
hello everyone i really want a western star in my fleet of trucks and i have this spare cab lying around and lots of styrene and since nobody makes them i thought i will give it a try myself ,not sure how it will look when i am done but we will see.this is what i am stiving for http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...pseaee529f.jpgthis is not my photo,i am just using this as a reference,i see this truck going up and down the roads where i live and something about it really appeals to me .i have been working on this for a little bit of time now and i am going to post what i have done so far..please be gentle..lol

Re: western star 4900
http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9577ab8.jpgusing styrene tubing i glued them to the side of the front section of the bunk as this real one is contoured and once glued i am cutting and shaping them on the truck
http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps78802c87.jpg http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps316208c7.jpgi flattened the hood and glued the square center piece down the middle of the hood and contoured it to start flat at the windshield and raise as it extends to the front and sanded all the rivets off and contoured the front windshield at the bottom corners and made the side windows on the doors bigger to follow the lines as they are closer to the top of the hood as in the picture http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps227afdf1.jpg |
Re: western star 4900
http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...psa59e1ad4.jpgthis is some of the work i am doing on the fenders and light section.i use paper or cardboard templates and shape and alter those to fit then i use them as the template to cut the styrene this is where i am so far and i cut the roof off of the sleeper and going to try to make the roof cap as in the real truck that will sit on the stock bunk..what do you think so far?

Re: western star 4900
Looking great. Wish someone on shapeways would make a hood for a king or knight. Those western stars are sweet trucks. Glad to see some builds showing up. Great job keep those pics coming.

Re: western star 4900
here are a few updates ,its taking awhile because i want it as close to the real truck as possible.started to make the front section of the fenders where the light buckets will go.i also started working on the raised section of the bunk.i made the templates and made the angled side pieces for the bunk and spent most of the weekend making templates for the roof and front top widow section of the bunk out of thin cardboard tomorrow i should finish the last template for the corner sections and start cutting the rest of the styrene for the bunk top ,should have the top section of the bunk done soon then i can install it and finish contouring the rest of the bunk so it doesn't look like a roof cap on a kinghauler bunk .here is some pics so far http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/...ps90f03be0.jpg
