20 ton Eager Beaver Tag trailer

So now that I have a few dump trucks I figured I need a tag trailer for them. The frame is based off of a Eager Beaver 20 ton 20XPT trailer.

I've ordered some tires and rims from Ric and getting some ramps 3D printed from Brian, I hope to cut the wood this week and have it finished by the end of the week.

Looks great.. Did you use frame stock, or home depot channel?? Are you going to use tandem wheel or super signals??

It late I have lots of questions...LOL

Re: 20 ton Eager Beaver Tag trailer

Wayne, I used frame stock for the outer frame and 3/4" plywood channel for the inner frame. Both rails will be exposed when finished, the wood planks will go between the rails. I'm using duel PMD wheels and 65mm tires.

Thanks Keith.

I am look at a low loader or demo semi for my first trailer.

Trailer is looking great, too great for what I am used to seeing on the roads.

To get the true scale points I think it will need a bit of weathering. Once you get it painted you need to saok it down with water and warp some of the wood so the ends stick up. Then go at it with a hammer and chisel and make some holes that are just small enough that the backhoe wheel doesnt fall completely through. Then remove 2/3 of one of the diamond plate wheel covers and repace it with a couple layers of half rotten scale plywood. Finally cake a good thick layer of several different colors mud all over it. A shredded tire on a rusty rim laying on the tongue will add some extra style points. :D:D:D

LOL, I'll have to figure that part out. Maybe I'll just let my son use it for a few weeks and then it'll fit the norm.

Nice job building the frame on this trailer. It looks smooth and solid. You've got a great start on the decking as well.

Your trailer looks great! I am working towards building one of these myself so it is great to see roughly what it may look like. Are you adding ramps or just leaving it as is?

Keep up the great work!

Thanks, yes I am adding ramps. I'm having a set 3d printed so I can get a little more detail than just making out of aluminum.

Yeah, LOL. no it's going to be used for the D5 Dozer which is under the 20,000 cap. The track loader will be on my four axle low boy behind it.

Looking good. Im thinking of puilding one for my 6 wheeler i just built.

Yours Reminds me of the tag trailer I pulled. It was a 3 axel with a gravity tilt bed....dam thing never wanted to stay locked in the down position. Was a little scary loading in the rain as well!

Thanks Lmack, that would be a little scary having your trailer tilt on its own running down the road.

Yeah and warped, rotten boards and some rusted bent area where someone backed it into a building or concrete wall. :) In all honesty it looks great, well done.

Small update, got the axles, tires and rims mounted up. It sits right at scale height now. Also did a little weathering on the boards. None busted yet, lol.

This is a really nice build. Love all the details and clever use of servo arm and ball joint! The deck stains added more realism....just need to scuff some paint and tweak a beam or two and you won't know it from the 1:1. Great job!

Ken
