WRECKER

So, me and my buddy went fishing, but the day was hot and fish didn't bite.
http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/...09/unnamed.jpg
So, we decided to go back home and build a wrecker. What should we use for the telescopic boom? asked my purring buddy. Well, how about this luggage dolly? I suggested. That will do, and let the the building begin.

Firstly, is to separate the sections and attache a nut for the screw drive.

Re: WRECKER

Thats really wicked looking.

Are you planning to have the tbar just do bumper lifts, or add an actuator and a pair of L arms to make it a self loading wheel-lift?

I'm kind of in the process of planning out a wrecker build. I'm very interested in seeing the outcome of this one! Great job so far!

A question for electronics savvy: Did a test drive today with all the functions connected, Firgellis are working fine, however, when connecting winch motor with its own speed control and its own battery,to the RX, the truck goes full throttle....

It almost sounds like you have both speed controllers on the same channel. Without knowing what radio and how you have your channels set up its hard to tell.

kaptain Jack 08-11-2016 02:00 PM

Re: WRECKER

The radio is Futaba FASST, throttle on ch 3 and winch on ch 4.

Could it be electrical interference ? Jack have you tried moving the wires around that power the winch while it's working to see if it effects anything.

Re: WRECKER

Hi do you have a schematic drawing of the cabeling or some photos to get an overview what is setup at the moment?

frizzen 08-12-2016 07:45 AM

Re: WRECKER

When you run 2 esc, you are supposed to pull the red wire out of the RX plug on one esc so the 2 bec in them don't fight over trying to power the rx. Lift the tab and slide it out and just heatshrink or tape it out of the way. It'll smoke the bec inside one of the esc fairly quickly if you don't.

It gets even more important when running 2 isolated battery packs, or external bec.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/elect...otors-etc.html

If that doesn't get it, post a pic or wiring diagram of your setup.

kaptain Jack 08-12-2016 08:37 AM

Re: WRECKER

Great advice Frizzen, I'll look into it. Mean while, I changed the esc, from chinese to RC4WD and it seems to work fine.
here is the picture of aftermarket esc
http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/...0709/winch.jpg
I'll try again with aftermarket later on today and will pull the red wire out, will post the results.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my question.

kaptain Jack 08-19-2016 09:48 AM

Re: WRECKER

Disconnecting red wire from rx connector worked great!! But now, new question: I have attached retracting legs to the rear of the truck (Tamiya, the ones that go on the trailer), I have only one channel left on the radio, up and down switch I thought of using it to deploy and retract legs. I soldered the motor wires to the the motor of the servo and it works, however, the travel distance is to short !!! Disconnecting the stopper on the servo makes it rotate continuously non stop. Any suggestions on how to deploy the the legs?
Thanks

Cossett 08-20-2016 01:38 AM

Re: WRECKER

Depending on what radio you have you could run another RX and have it in a different model memory like others do when you run out of channels or just but a new radio with more channels...

Cheers Tracy

frizzen 08-20-2016 09:31 PM

Re: WRECKER

Glad to hear pulling the wire got the esc working!

Does your radio have 'epa' or end point adjustment on that channel? If so, you can start dialing the endpoints further away from center until you're happy.
If it doesn't, you might be able to fit a 'servo stretcher' in the model that wires between the rx and servo to control endpoints. Its a set of pots and a circuit card that let you configure center and each end stop independantly, so they take some time to fiddle with.

Re: WRECKER

Thanks Tracy. Thanks Frizzen, I'll see what my radio is capable of doing.
