Forums V FaceBook
This is my b@@ch,
There is a etiquet on forums where poeple post all of there build photos in the one thread and use there brain... People that are on facebook dont have the etiquet ( or brains or are just lazy ) and need to start a new post every time they have new updates of there build instead of typing there name into the search bar thats on the right of the groups page to find there OP thread they first started and continue it....( NOTE > if you continue a OP post every new post will bring it to the top of the groups page ) Then there are the dump questions > what color do I paint my truck, where can I find this or that part, and the list goes on....... The there are the people that dump there crap on FB groups, spam multiple pages with the same stuff they posted earlier on other pages, when selling something instead of cleaning it they leave it filthy covered in dirt / dust, and they think they will get the same price for a second hand rig as a brand new kit........ When people post the FS posts on Forums there they are nice and clean and you can usual find a build thread and plenty of photos on it.... There was a time when people google first to try and find there answers they were after and used there brains, the same for coming up with there own paint schemes instead of getting others to do the work for them.... And I wonder how many have actually been on forums and learnt posting etiquet, and wonder what they did before FB was the new thing and become lasy @@@@@.......... And why I will always read forums as they are more interesting and informative and you can keep track of all the discusions that get lost in a day or two on FB................ Cheers Tracy |

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Those people you complain about were once the noobs that either got schooled by the forums / bbs and grew out of it, or they got run out of the forums for sucking. Forums were more rough back then, and stupid hurt. On rc crawler, they'd throw your posts back to Noob General for doing that, the non-rc forums could get much worse about it. Read a lot, post a little.
I just don't like facebook, and want nothing to do with it. If we didn't have forums, i'd just go dark and just play with my toys, not document it, and not go look at yours. Drop a couple words about my build if you deem it worthy, if it's not worthy i should step up my game or ask for help. The 'like button' is the stupidest concept ever. It's part of the everybody gets a trophy line of thinking. We'll all go get ice cream, but sprinkles are for winners. {/old man yelling at clouds} |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
Could not agree more Tracy
I love the forums they are full of a like minded group of true enthusiasts not a bunch of morons like most on faceplant who just want to post crap pictures of what they had for dinner. You can always find what you want on a forum but if for some reason you cant there will be somebody there to point you in the right direction. |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
Never been on Facebook, probably never will.

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Facebook is great in a lot of ways but it's also a jumbled up mess IMO. I had never been on it nor had I any desire to be until this year. I still don't want to be but I had to. For me trying to expand RCP's and make it a success I had to go on there. I have had many great customers come from this forum but unfortunately there are only so many people here looking for my work. Facebook has brought me a bigger audience but it has also brought on a lot of tire kickers which requires me to spend many more hours in front of the keyboard answering questions. Most often it turns into wasted time but how do you know unless you reply? I have gained a few jobs but the bulk of my work this year has still come from the good old folks at RCT&C so thank you! I have found that most of the RCT&C crowd is also on Facebook which is nice but I still think the forum is the best for finding info and retaining it. You will get a ton of opinions and info on Facebook but tomorrow when you go to look back on it, where did they go?lol At least here stuff is easy to search.

Re: Forums V FaceBook
My problem with the fourm is now photobucket wants me to pay 399.00 a year so you can see my pictures on here. That's not going to happen so now all my threads are no good and if I go to another sharing sight I have to go back the all my threads and redo pick's and that's not going to happen so now years of builds are lost it stinks.

Yes I am glad Tamiya Club hosts there own now costs 25 a year to do it. This move by Photo bucket and the other one is not good for pages. The 40 a year won't fix my problem do to the amount of pages my picks are on I have to do the 400 yearly for the bandwidth it's telling me. |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
It's up to the mods around here to change things. Hoping they upgrade even if it costs us vendors a bit more money. Photobucket is a joke to use and now they jacked up their prices. If they go up anymore, the 3300 photos I have linked to this site will go bye bye. If everyone here does the same thing then there is no need for this forum. Sad but true.

Re: Forums V FaceBook
I deleted my photo bucket account, all of my photos are gone and I don't have files of most of them. I'm not very active on the forums anymore, nobody is. Not much fun anymore when there is nothing new to see, so why keep paying for a photo bucket account.
The moderators might as well delete all of my threads as there is no photos in them anymore. |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
I only used .9 GB of the 10 allowed on a free account from Photobucket but the cost of posting to a 3rd party is insane. I closed the account. This was the only place I posted pics besides Facebook. It is sad for the forum it was a great place. I pretty much use it for truck meet info and keep up with those I haven't found on FB.

Its just not as simple and cheap as you think. The way the forum was set up makes things realy complicated. I for one wish there was a simple solution. |

Re: Forums V FaceBook
I am not a Facebook guy, never been on there, not sure if I ever will but couldn't RC Truck and Construction start a Facebook page where the members could go and post pics and threads? One of the other forums I visit did that but I have never seen their FB page so I can't say what it is like.

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Facebook is great for a lot of things. You can post pictures as much as you want which is great and everything imaginable is on there but don't try to find that post you found interesting ever again because it will be buried in a thousand other posts. A forum like this is very easy to navigate. Searching posts, adding to a post ect is very easy . If the picture storage thing could be improved upon this place would be perfect! I'd much rather have this place like it was a few years ago with lots of members posting builds and useful tutorials. Facebook is great for showing what you ate for dinner...

Re: Forums V FaceBook
For the gents having trouble posting pictures on here I put this little tutorial together using the free easy to use service www.postimages.org
Select the Choose Images button https://s7.postimg.org/axhhd1asb/581..._A80_A9_F5.jpg Choose which picture you want to upload by clicking on it and then press the button Done https://s7.postimg.org/d4qbec2rv/C25...45817_AEF0.png https://s7.postimg.org/3wy2xulhn/F90..._A78_A4279.png Click the button with the red arrow next to it. It will automatically copy the link when you click it https://s7.postimg.org/pjd3f023f/260...79_AFEB1_F.jpg Then you type in [img] before the link https://s7.postimg.org/tr3a9ygp7/09_...BCC313_A83.png Paste the link you just copied directly after the after the link you just pasted. And that’s it your done! You can always preview your message before posting to see if your image shows up properly  https://s7.postimg.org/nq5ld4u5n/87_...356_E8_CC8.png |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
Thanks for this but way to many steps , I would rather spend time building then resizing ,refining, installing anther app on my iPad . I enjoy building I don’t enjoy computers at all . I’ll stick to fb. Thanks Mike

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Thanks Northern Farmer for taking the time explaining all what it would take and I'm in agreement with Mikem with all the PC work. I can copy and paste an address and upload images but that's it.
FB makes it easier OR maybe a group photo sharing website that can be easier than the once user friendly Photo Bucket? Can we use FB images here from the page the group has? The lack of newer images and the ease of having them here certainly has reduced traffic and cut the participation down. How much does an upgrade for the website cost? Would a member yearly tuition go over with everyone due to the price? I haven't read the whole thread so if it's been discussed, my bad. |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
I honestly don’t see a difference if members were posting pictures before with Photobucket on here why it would be any more complicated to use another image hosting service. It boils down to the same thing.

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Problem is guys with pics in there build threads
From years ago lost those pics. Now try adding pics Back into the threads isn't going to work. And there definitely not going g to recreate a thread Just to have pics here |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
Even with photobucket it was a pain and I did not enjoy it at all . Mario talked me through it so that helped , but to redo it all, not happening . Then Trent and Dwayne had fb sites and it was so easy to post that’s why I went there . And who’s to say all these other photo hosting sites aren’t going to do the same as PB did . Thanks Panther F I thought I was the only one who hated this method .

Re: Forums V FaceBook
Im just getting back to forums after years away and its a bit sad to see how dead they are now. I too lost all my pictures in build threads due to photobucket and have since started fresh using imgur.com
Sure it's a bit more work to post builds on forums but at least they are easier to follow and search. Like others said about FB, stuff just gets buried so quick. Plus everyone just starts new FB groups and now you have to join like 20 groups all for the same subject matter. It would be nice to see people return to forums. |
Re: Forums V FaceBook
I used to come on here many times per day to see what was new. Now I might look at it every couple of days or once a week. I don't post build progress pictures here anymore because it's a pain in the a$$ and I know many feel the same. I've been paying to have a photobucket account for the last few years just to keep pictures here on this site but now my account is going to close like others already have. I'm not going to take the time to start up an account at another hosting site, upload, then repost all of my pictures only to find out in a year that they pull the same $hit as photobucket when this is the only place that doesn't host photos. I happily pay a small fee as do all of the other vendors on here to help support running the place. I would happily pay a bit more or even pay a membership fee to upgrade this site but I think it is already too late. I hate Facebook but they make photo sharing and viewing a breeze. Uploading photo's to the Heavy Equipment Forum is also very easy and they host them for free. You can even embed videos on there. I understand that the membership of these other sites are much greater and that they run adds to help pay for that. Is that not possible in this situation? Clearly we have way less members than the Heavy Equipment Forum but that also means that a lot less photos and videos would have to be hosted. Would this not also reduce the cost of it? I don't know anything about running a website but I do know that this place is on the ropes because of the photo deal and it makes me sad:(.
