Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
I have been on this project for a while on and off, now I have compleated my first goal to finish the crusher and make it crush rocks, it was my main goal with this quite large task, for me atleast.
I said to myself, if I can make the crusher work then the rest will be a walk in the park more or less, so now when I got this done I will continiue to build the feeder, im still waiting on some parts to be cut. In the end this will hopefully be a functionally mobile crusher, but this will take some time I think! :) Im aming to make it as similar as the original but some details will be simplyfied to make building easyier. Im running the crusher on a 5065-236kv motor with a 3cell lipo, 120mm flywheel and a 36-12 beltdrive. The crusher opening is now set to 100x45mm at the top and about 9mm down below. Seem to crush pretty good this way, I had a larger opening with slightly less vertical plates but the rocks mostly just wanted to go up, not get crushed. I have just tested with a half full crusher, I know it will probably work better when its almost full. I only had 2 stops in it, but that was due to empty battery, if I will get more stops I will try a larger 40t pulley to get a bit more tourqe. So here is a few pics of how it looks today, and a video. (In the video its not regular rocks, its a softer kind. Here is the real deal 1:1. http://www.agg-net.com/sites/default...?itok=MkIG9UQJ Here is the CAD drawing of the assembly, its just a rough sketch to see how everything fits. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pst1h8jpv0.jpg And the eccentric axle, bearings and bearing carrier. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqzchonlh.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pshhkphtui.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps1ej1mrya.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psuse0csrn.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psxjw86foa.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psypb6ezqv.jpg Here is the crusher. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps46rrade5.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psa9c04vpa.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psmxxldibz.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psk56mcu5c.jpg And here is a mock up with the crusher in the chassis. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psrj5cdfz2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psf8nf9bvw.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psw4uptdnb.jpg Video. https://youtu.be/odmNU3Jhpfw |

Looks like a fun project.
Are you following plans or other info for any of the details like the amount of eccentric or the angle of the two plates? Jim |

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
SWEET project Kalle!!!
Great to see you finally bring this project out of the shadows... it's like 6 months ago when I saw the 1st vid of the early breaker box. Can I assume you're making two everything as you go? :D :p Like everything you have built in the past, this mobile crusher is gonna be scale appealing & very functional too. :) |

Yeah, I didnt want to post something before I even knew if im going to make it work, but now I feel that it might actually do! :) Hehe, for now just one, but we will se in the future, there is a lot of work on this so I will probably not have the motivation to make another one! :) |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Made a little more progress on the crusher. I got some parts for the feeder table, so welded that up and started to try out the motors I got for the feeder, it was kind of a shot in the dark becuse I had no idea how much power it would take and how much the table would weigh.
It turned out that the original weights on the motors were to small so I got some scrap brass and made the weights twice as big, that woke the vibration up pretty good. So I think I found a nice vibration speed. Also mounted the crusher to the chassis. Now im waitning on some parts before I can continiue on the conveyor and feeder. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psuyp87xss.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pst1pz75sl.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pse0on7lyf.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pslj09igj3.jpg Video. https://youtu.be/xi7a81UN6yc |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Hello Kalle very nice project that will need a heavy steel fly wheel to crush properly. Ed

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Thanks guys!
I have made mounts for the springs on the feeder, still a little more to do to make it work a little better. I have also got the rubber strips for the conveyor, its 1.5mm thick, should work out just fine I think, waiting on motors and need to make som more parts for it still. I have also invested in a 3D printer, nothing fancy, just a cheap chineese machine, works good enogh for me so far. I have printed the covers for the flywheel and beltdrive, Still need to smooth out and sand the raw finish, but that will be later i think. So here it is as of now... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psvqf7jec2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps4lganubb.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psi04sb9h2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps3lahvo5k.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psir2svoxw.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psojo8sfqs.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pstjpamp2d.jpg |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Really Neat!
I really like the timing belt and drive sprockets, but do you think that plastic roller chain and standard chain sprockets would hold up or would there be too much stress and vibration in this application? I'm asking because if I attempt something like this, it would be much easier for me to use roller chain and buy sprockets vs machining timing sprockets. Also, where did you find the timing belt? Thanks for the pictures! Jim |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
How did you join the conveyor belt? Do you have any pictures of that and what exactly is the belt material? Cloth reinforced rubber?
|
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.

This timing belt is really strong, I would be suprised if it would tear apart. Both belt and pulleys are from Maedler.de. Quote:

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Well, I got a bit more done to the crusher. I got a new more powerful motor for the feeder, works much better now.
Also got most of the conveyor done, a few more pieces to do but Im almost there. Here are a few pics. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pske9pxdxo.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5xb8bsem.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pseql08sh2.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspkucbcgi.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0cngf5tz.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psaernghoy.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pstjv0zb6j.jpg |

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
I wouldn't have thought you could curve the frame like that & the conveyer belt still work.
Did you taper the ends of your drive roller at all, to help the belt run center? |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.

Quote:
Yes I just recently got a tip from a friend to taper one of the rollers to get it to self center, I made the taper 0.5mm smaller on the ends, no more walking of the belt! :) |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Any more progress on this outstanding build?

I did re-weld it the other day though, so now it shouldn't break loose. One more thing I have noticed is that the crush plates should go into each other if you would lay them together, as the sit in the crusher now, the tops of the pattern lines up with each other, guess it would crush better the other way. That's about it, it's summer now and I don't spend much time in this hobby this time of the year, more of a "get through the winter" kinda hobby. :) |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
I noticed too that the plates need to be offset . It would definitely take less effort to crack a rock in half pressing it over a sharp point evenly rather than pinching it like wire cutters work.
I am working on some crushing equipment as well, but a slightly larger setup using existing laboratory crushers. |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Interesting build, looking forward to see progress and ofcourse a video when crushing!

Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
As I sold the crusher a few months ago I still had a few parts left from the lasercutter to make another one, but I only have parts to make the crusherbox, so thats what Im going to do for now.
But this will be a slower build I think, I also lost all cad files when my harddrive gave up, Im going to let someone take a look to see if I can get some files back. So I started to make another eccentric, axle is the exact same as the first one, 4mm throw, seem to work pretty good, one thing I will change later is the crush plates, this time they will be offset to each other, made that misstake on the first one to have them edge to edge. Oh well, here is what I have so far... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscaafdheb.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskngmphkt.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psawuftoci.mp4 http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psp0a99ruu.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps00y5j3lq.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...pshp0qwtve.jpg |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
We had my Denver jaw crusher out last month for Cabin Fever Expo. Worked great!
I still haven't had time to edit some video of it working crushing hard Limestone. Something you may want to consider on your jaws along with the offset teeth are; Curved jaws. Watching my machine chew the rocks it looks like the curve jaw makes it feed well. |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Quote:
Is only the moving jawplate curved on yours? Also, how much throw does the eccentric have? |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Nice project and great job! I´ve some worries if the excenter shaft will be strong enough...made of brass. A friend of mine built a chrusher years ago and had some trouble with teh shaft and bearings in the beginning. After changing ball into roller bearings it runs great...
But that was just an idea...keep on with your crisher. It looks great!;) |

Bear in mind that my crusher is a real machine in the sense that it is commercially built. As far as I know ,these are used for testing small amounts of ore in a laboratory. Here's a view of the jaws I took last summer. http://imageshack.com/a/img921/5847/6mHh2u.jpg |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Great to see you're gonna have another go at Kalle
Has the Norwegian ever sent you any finished pics your old one? |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Quote:
Yes you might be right on the brass shaft, but on the first one I did some testing crushing real rocks and it did at least hold up for that, but this time I will use a larger beltdrive and flywheel and see how that goes, I can always turn a new shaft from steel if brass dont hold up. I will try ball bearings for now, I had almost all of them on the shelf so we will see how they last. Quote:
Quote:
I have some pics, not finished though, talked to him yesterday and he had been busy with work so no time for building. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...sajafxnz2.jpeg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...sneg9i2vc.jpeg |
Re: Metso Lokotrack LT120, Jaw Crusher.
Made a little progress, made the 2 holders for the bearings.
I got the tolerances a little sloppy on 2 spots on the shaft, I think i will go for a shaft in steel and get the tolerance right and at the same time a stronger shaft like Grainfarmer said. Might also go for roller bearings later on, found SKF roller bearings on Ebay that had a good price. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps5i9q2dav.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps7z1gprcx.jpg http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbvxgdgjo.jpg |
