new to rc trucking
hi guy's, i'm james from nyc.... i'm returning to the hobby of rc after 20 years. and have been bitten by the custom truck bug, i've been inspired by the work i've seen in these forums. i have so many idea's in my head and hope i'm worthy of being in such great company. i think i'm going to start with a tamiya night hauler, customize it with some bolt on accessories just to get my feet wet. and see where it takes me. so if you have any advise it will be greatly appreciated.... thank you.... james

Welcome James. Just take your time and build to your own liking. :)
There are several hop-up items available for these trucks. Over time you'll discover most of these on you own. Here's a list to help you get started: http://www.rigidrc.com/ http://www.ihbcustommachining.com http://verkerk.modelbouw-onlineshop.nl/ http://www.gardentrucking.com http://www.truescale-rc.com/ Have fun. :D - RCT |
Re: new to rc trucking
Welcome to the board. You'll learn a lot just looking at other peoples posts (I know I do). My only advise is to post a lot of pictures and a couple of videos of your builds. That way it keeps everyone happy here. :) We like pictures and videos.

Re: new to rc trucking
Welcome to a GREAT hobby. The first item you should think about is some sort of gear reduction unit to slow down the stock truck. Whether it is after the tranny or between the motor and tranny is your choice. If you have watched any of the demolition derby videos, these trucks do not have GRUs in them. The GRU makes the trucks easier to drive and safer for both you and the other trucks.
Enjoy the best forum on the web :D:D |

Re: new to rc trucking
Cant wait to see your build thru its progress!
My tip would be when choosing a radio don't just go by price, think out your long run ideas and plan accordingly.. When I started I bought a 5channel and out grew it in a few months now I have a DX8 and I love it. all though a few more channels would be nice..... HAHA good luck with your build!! |
Re: new to rc trucking
well ran into my first problem, i'm also having a dump trailer made, and was packing it in order to ship it to my builder, who is izzy, from this forum, while packing the parts i noticed the frame rails are shorter than the dump body, i'm going to need rails from a semi (box)trailer. let the problems begin.....

Re: new to rc trucking
Hey James, my one bit of advise is just know that this isn't a hobby.......IT'S AN ADDICTION. Very rarely do you find someone with just one truck n not planning on more.

Re: new to rc trucking
It's pretty self-explanatory James. :)
If you look at the thread headers, they have a short explanation under the header. You should be able to decide for yourself the best option in just a few seconds for each thread you wish to start. Be aware that you don't need to start a new thread just to post a new message - sometimes you can use one of your threads that you previously started or just post a thought on an existing thread if you wish to make a comment to someone in an on-going conversation. As you use the system more, you'll become more comfortable with it and soon you'll be a pro. Just take your time and have fun. Hope to see some of your work soon. - RCT |
