My Crane truck
Right before Christmas I was walking through northern tool getting some stuff I needed for work I ran across the bruder crane truck and decided to pick it up. I didn't know if I would tare it apart or just leave it sitting on the shelf So this morning as i was sifting through all my old parts that were put in boxes 3 or 4 years ago I ran across some frame rails a built rear end a built front end and a transmission so I started to lay it all out and for some reason this went together pretty easy. It runs and drives the crane is not operational but im ok with that for now. The only things I want to finish up is going to be a functioning work box on one side, a dummy work box on the other to hide the battery, cab paint color change, and a rear bumper. Once all that gets done then maybe ill think about wiring LED's

Re: My Crane truck
This will make a nice truck, I've got it on my Bruder to do list but I have 5 ahead of it. Does the crane look like it could be made operational with out a lot of trouble?

Re: My Crane truck
Looks cool!!

Re: My Crane truck
Thanks oztruck and Dabears
Thanks Truckmaker in response to your questions I am sure someone could make it functional very easy but right now for me its beyond my skill and knowledge to make it full function. I have not been building anything but old volkswagens for the past couple years |
Re: My Crane truck
Looks good - I like parts truck builds - always fun!

Re: My Crane truck
Here is another update. I saved up all my updates till was out town and can not build only sit here admire everyone else's builds and update all the small things i got done.
Decided that the King cab was not suited for this truck so dug out an old Knight day cab I built and did a swap http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-24191951.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-24191916.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-24192222.jpg Also was able to figure out a way to hide the battery on this one as well http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-24192441.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-24192425.jpg I really like the way it looked so went out to the store and got some paint. I just wish I had picked up the right color now I have it on the list to change the paint again http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-26115258.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...1-26115318.jpg Now I also need to find a new bumper think I am just going to go with a stock knight hauler bumper as I plan to modify it a bit to accept a shackle or 2 and a sling to hold the crane hook |
Re: My Crane truck
This is a cool build for sure.:cool::cool: I have to agree, the knight body look's better. Are you going to make the crane operational? I'll be watching this one.:D:D:D

Re: My Crane truck
Very good choice of the knight cab, looks like a working truck.

Re: My Crane truck
Thanks everyone.
I will try to figure out how to make it all R/C eventually just have to look into what is available for this type of application any help with pointing me in the proper direction would be great. |
Re: My Crane truck
Nice start, Looks like everything fits pretty well

Re: My Crane truck
yep the switch to the knight cab looks much better. cant waite to see what else you have in store

Re: My Crane truck
You may have already seen this video, but making it fully functional can be done. This video inspired me to build one of these myself. So far all i have done is buy the Bruder Mack Crane truck. Yours is looking real good.

Re: My Crane truck
I havent looked into any video's on it but that is cool I will have to devote some time to finding out what might work for it
|
Re: My Crane truck
well made another step on this one added a light kit changed the yellow to something a bit closer and added a separating stripe still have more I want to do just need to find the time and parts.
Here is where its at now http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps1dba823c.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps9da53abf.jpg |
Re: My Crane truck
Looks great nice work Keith..
|
Re: My Crane truck
yeah the knight hauler cab with the stripe is just perfect!
|
Re: My Crane truck
wow looks real good. the paint and black stripe really make i all jive together .
|
Re: My Crane truck
You might consider this aluminum bumper, as you could drill & tap it to bolt shackles onto. I bought one just because I thought it would stand up better to my bad driving than the stock plastic one. It fits well and looks good.

Re: My Crane truck
This truck looks awesome, just on detail I would change is that you need the black pinstripe to separate the yellow and white on the cab of the crane also. It looks great on the cab of the truck but needs to continue on the crane. But this build looks great, nice job.

Re: My Crane truck
Thanks everyone I am having fun with it.
I have a stock bumper coming but may look into that aluminum one later thanks for the link Sassgrunt BrickNick you are right and I planned on adding the stripe to the crane tomorrow |
Re: My Crane truck
well got to add the stripe and it looks a lot better to me then I saw the vents on the front and filled those in with the black as well. I thinks its all starting to come together. On a side note anyone have one king hauler clearance light lens they could part with? I have been all through my parts boxes and cant find the one for the drivers side

Re: My Crane truck
well after you guys mentioned it an I have been home visiting all the nice old mom and pop suppliers I was able to find me some small drive trains and this is what the result is
http://youtu.be/ilR2Xk5XgYE Hope you enjoy it I need to find out a way to get a faster motor for the Boom extend and retract but other then that its working pretty good |
Re: My Crane truck
got a little more done thanks to Paul i got the new bumper in the mail and made some custom tow hooks for the bumper http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps6684def5.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psad93a316.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psdc8c1361.jpg Here is one of the little motors I used http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psf5467830.jpg and this is how it all fit into the elevation boom http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...pse14b68b1.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psc8d39d5b.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps0f739bae.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps7c381aa8.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps84576e80.jpg |
Re: My Crane truck

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psfcef3715.jpg I cant figure out how to embed so all I have is the link http://youtu.be/CDOxPm713eA |
Re: My Crane truck
Very nice work kdz, I like it a lot.

Re: My Crane truck
Thanks Kaf it has been an fun build thus far
well I was able to revisit this project a little bit and found a way to make the extend/retract work a bit quicker Went back to the mom and pop electronic shop and they got a bunch of these in but the only problem is you can see they are not that long http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...psb21281bf.jpg I started cutting turning and threading and came up with this. I also took a piece of 1/4 inch delrin and made a solid point to attach to the inner boom http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps72966e9a.jpg http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/f...ps0c75cbf5.jpg Now it moves a bunch quicker then using a 1/4 20 threaded rod |
Re: My Crane truck
Cool video. Have you tried to lift anything yet?
