The Daycab

Hey guys! I got a King Hauler kit over Christmas, and finally worked up the nerve to chop off the sleeper. It went off without a hitch and I sanded it down! I'm stoked! Now I just need to work up the nerve to turn on my homicidal camera!:D Well, we'll see about the pic's, this occasion is definetly worth it!:D I need some tips on a removable back panel for it!:D

Thanks guys!:D

Oh, and Freddy, it's going to be black!:D

Trucker out.

Re: The Daycab

Alright, here are the pics!
I used a normal saw for this cut, nothing fancy!:D Rear of the cab is a little scratched up, but hey, this ain't no show truck!:D:D All I need now is a radio, a receiver, a battery, and some black paint!:D:D:D

Re: The Daycab

Great start on the daycab! When I built one, I too was looking for a solution to get access to the battery and turn the truck on... I didn't want to chop and hinge the hood, so I looked around at what I had... and I used the rear door from the sleeper. I cut it in half and glued it back together... a lil sanding and body work and you're good. I got this idea from Ed.

Re: The Daycab

That's a pretty cool idea, Rod. I wonder how it would work if you moved the latches down lower, and the rear window up higher. You would have to chop and section the rear wall to relocate the latches, but I think that might work out even better. Any thoughts on that?

Trucker, congrats on cutting up a perfectly good cab. Now it's even better looking then before. Don't worry about those scratches. A little glazing putty, with some sanding, and no one will even know.

Re: The Daycab

Thanks a bunch guys!

Rod, that is exacly what I was thinking, minus the window.:D

Nate that idea sounds good too!

And this truck is gonna be a all-purpose hauler/ prime mover. It will have a taller ride height! Any suggestions on this? I'd like a heavy-duty bumper on it, and maybe a headache rack. Maybe go 6x6 eventually. Might even paint the grille and wheels!

I'll go pick up some styrene, paint, electronics, and... what kind of putty? Oh man! I'm getting all kinds of adrenaline from the thought of more truck building!!!:D
More to come tomorrow!!!:D:D:D
Trucker out!:D

Re: The Daycab

Hey Travis, bet your glad that you don't always have to work while hugging a camcorder...:D:D

That is a pretty neat idea putting the bondene in the squeeze bottle. I use a paint brush my self, I feel I can control the amount and placement that way. but I can see where this would be useful.

-Mike

Trucker here is a link to find the Bondene. It is made by Plastruct and there website is a bit of a joke to find stuff.

Plastruct Bondene

And this is their Weldene. The Weldene is strictly for bonding styrene and give you a few more seconds of manipulation time. Plus it is completely non-toxic.

Weldene

The Weldene will bond styrene to styrene, while the Bondene will bond most plastics to them selves.

And this is Plastic Weld Cement. This will bond Styrene, Acrylic, Butyrite together or to each other. I use this stuff the most. HOWEVER this stuff works fast so you have to have the pieces where they are supposed to be.

Plastic Weld Cement

These all work by chemically melting a small layer of the plastic and "Welding" them together. CA glues just glue the pieces together. While you can get this bond apart, you will usually end up destroying the pieces, where with the glues, ya can just pull them apart clean them up a bit and go again.

Now it makes perfect since that if you can pull them apart as with the glue, then they will eventually fall apart right!

These are the way to go for sure, and for ever..

And they are not any more expensive than the CA glues.

I'm going to make the back panel for the sleeper less wide, then pop it in. Basically what Rogue did on his daycab. There's a pic a few posts up.

And those aren't Xbox 360 games, they're old Xbox games! Although, my dad's gonna get one soon. I'm a PS3 guy, so if you have one send me your user! :D
Otherwise hang on for a few days. It'll be fun to play online with another builder, what games are good?:D
