Started a new build, a Tamiya King Hauler. I will be starting off with a "Joe's Custom Truck Shop" frame.

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Got the new frame swapped in, I will paint it later after everything is mocked up. Stock frame was 22 3/4", new "Joes" frame is 28".

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
for a truck of this size what kinds of modification did you have to do if any to the motor or the tranny
|
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Length is perfect. What colors do you have in mind for paint?

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Updates...
-Got some parts in the mail, this rig was missing a lot of pieces when I got it. -Installed the trans and found a old silvercan in my toolbox I tossed in. -Bolted the cab floor pan in and dremeled a space for the motor. (I will be making a center console to cover the motor later) -Made a styrene sleeper pan that is bolted to the trans. All the tronics will go in the sleeper. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4626.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4629.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4619.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4623.jpg |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Looking good! Did you have to modify the fuel tank and step mounts to get them to fit the frame?
|
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Quote:
Per the fuel tanks, with guidance from "Joe", you just have to shave down the inside of the bracket just a bit to get them to fit. :) The fit just fine. |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
I have a question for ya.
Why did you put the tranny back so far? And don't you have the sleeper floor? I was just wondering is all. |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Quote:
I don't have the sleeper floor, I bought this off a forum and it happened to "not" come with everything.....lesson learned. :( |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Nice work! I have an extra sleeper floor if you need one.

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Here is a little trailer test video.
I didn't know that there was a mechanism that closed the tractor trailer support legs while you hitched it up, its pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymUHsxzcc1w |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Updates...
-Got a CAT 512, now to hinge the hood. :) BTW, it weight just over a pound. -Trailer is getting close to being done. After I get the tractor done I will convert the trailer to a lowboy. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4687.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4686.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4691.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4692.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4695.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4698.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_4699.jpg |

Updates...
-Shaved bottomed sides of the CAT engine to get it to fit in the frame rails. -Alum bell crank and steering done, still needs a bit of tweaking. -65t motor with a 9t (32p) pinon. -Got another sleeper box, I will be combine them to make one big one. -Teking FXR and Hitec 645 servo. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/68b3fb58.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/29828a42.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/7f21b18b.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/59f8567b.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/5bf1e64a.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/5cff07c3.jpg |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
nice truck
really like the idea of hinged hood and cat motor under there:D |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Is this your first semi build? Looking good so far! Sometimes with all the heavily modified rigs out there, we forget how nice the stock ones are, even though your's will be warmed over slightly! Great pictures. I like where your project is headed. That stretched frame will make your trailer look like a shorty!

As for the trailer, the plan is to make a long lowboy to haul my scalers. Here are some of my RC's.:D http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...read.php?t=597 |

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Nice color, and great smooth finish on the clearcoat. I do like the idea of flipping the darker color to the top.

Thanks guys!

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Got motivated to work on this truck again. I decided to go a new route with the over all look, more of a "show-ish" truck. I cut off the sleeper cab and lower the cab about .4".

Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Got the back of the cab filled in and cut out the previous sun roof shave job, then filled it in again.
http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_9713.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_9711.jpg Used a axial trans as a transfer case(if that what this unit is called in a 1:1, I am not sure). Had to do this because the frame is so long and having a day cab. I still need to make a cover to seal the case. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...4/IMG_9716.jpg |
Re: Project: Lloyd (Tamiya King Hauler)
Got some more body work today. Also starting shaving the stock headlight buckets, got some new ones coming in the mail this week.
