140H Grader...Unpdate
I am back on the grader. Here are a few pics. This is going to be a full function grader. For the controls, i will utilize a combination of air and hydraulics.....too many features to run full hydraulics. Steering will run off hydraulics and some of the blade/moldboard features. Ripper will be air. I have started "some" paint, but i have a long ways to go. I have completely changed the body of the grader. I like the hulky look of the square-back of the 140H instead of the slanted. The saddle tanks are about to primer and paint.
Enjoy, http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ot/wheels5.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ot/wheels3.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ot/wheels2.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...ot/wheels4.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/DSCF1918.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/DSCF1857.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/DSCF1860.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/DSCF1858.jpg |
Re: 140H Grader
How are you going to synchronize all 4 drive motors and be able to steer? Wasn't there a discussion about that recently? How many channels will be needed to operate a grader like this?
|
Re: 140H Grader
I think using the "dual motor mix" with the Sabertooth might work to help it steer, as long as you're moving forward. Have you used a Sabertooth dual esc with a tracked model before Rob?
I think there's about 8 or9 hyd functions within a grader Steve... D9 Joe would know. ;) |
Re: 140H Grader
Nice build
The four motors for the drive system is the way to go for sure, that is what I did for my ADT. Did you happen to put drive motors in the front steering wheels, it would sure help with the traction and also steering. greg |
Re: 140H Grader
Hey Rob looking good. I remember seeing this before but for got about it mice work keep it up. Ed

Re: 140H Grader
Thanks guys for all the compliments.
I am using the Sabertooth ESC I am not powering the front wheels. As for the channels......whew! f/rv, steering, body swival, wheel tilt, ripper, moldboard up/dn, blade swival, blade tilt, lights, just to name a few. I am going to run hydraulics on the steering and on the moldboard. I am using air on the ripper......and figure out the rest on the fly. There are not enough channels or switches on any radio to properly run all the function on a grader......that i am aware of. Still have a lot of work to do. |
Re: 140H Grader
What a beast! It sure looks big compared to the 1/64 scale model. Glad to see you are moving forward with this project, Rob. Looking good.

Re: 140H Grader
Here are some new pics of the saddle gas tanks.

Re: 140H Grader
Is that styrene and wood on the saddle tanks? is there some kind of advantage to doing it that way?
They look neat though. |
Re: 140H Grader
looking good!!!

Re: 140H Grader
Looks great! What a cool model.
Are those Tamiya giant dump truck wheels & tires? |
Re: 140H Grader
Looking good Rob, I'm glad your back on this build.
|
Re: 140H Grader
Jammer said he found a radio that had 22 channels on it that should be plenty lol it is in his excavator thread i think
|
Re: 140H Grader
Wow Robbert glad to see you back at it and them rims you were not joking your buddy knocked them out very very nice..

Re: 140H Grader
Blender, the advantage for me is the simple build with not having to build a mold. I would prefer to vaccuum form the parts, but don't have the resources. I carved the piece from a block of balsa.
Ed mentioned to me about the radio, but need a bunch of 3-pos switches. the grader has a lot of 3-pos levers for the up/dn and sideways motions. I need to get the wheels sandblasted then powder coated those are mommoth dump trk wheels |
Re: 140H Grader Updates
Well, i was able to get the patterns of the moldboard done and sent off to the waterjet. Got'm back yesterday.....and after drilling and tapping all the parts, this is how it looks.
Spent 2 1/2 hrs at the dentist this a.m. and finallyfelt like working on the grade some more tonight. Got the cylinders positioned and now i need to make the swing arms for them. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_1777.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_1776.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_1775.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t/IMG_1778.jpg |
Re: 140H Grader
Are those tires hard to get? Can you hold a rule up to them?

Re: 140H Grader
Very nice work! Lot's of small parts. This looks like a hard build but is coming along great!
|
Re: 140H Grader
looks great i like this build we need a 140 to grade the haul roads for all the pans now .....so far DP Joe has the smoothest ride lol in a dozer while the rest of use bounce around on these ol pans
|
Re: 140H Grader
Rob, what are you using for a circle gear? Very nice work.
|
Re: 140H Grader
Rob that grader is really taking shape I like it a lot. Talking about radio the F16 can be made to 2.4GHz and have an extra stick also it dual layered Scale Art told me. It has 15 channels plus 6 in 2 layers the price is 689.70 Euro or $940 US. I guess it will even brush your teeth if you want it to. The only problem with it I can see is if you have a problem with it it has to go to Germany to be fixed. Ed :):D:eek:

Re: 140H Grader

Re: 140H Grader
5 spool valve $ 478.00
pump/motor $ 335.00 Airtronics 10 ch $ 429.99 (with nine 3-pos switches) Priceless! |
Re: 140H Grader
very good looking build! when do you think it'll be running?
|
Re: 140H Grader
Hey Rob when you figure out how to work that 10 channel Airtronics let me know. Ed
|
Re: 140H Grader
Ed, I think the radio might be my one and only Christmas present...:D
I plan to have it completely working by mid-summer '11 I have come to terms that hydro is only way to go. I have tested the air theory and it just will function like i want it too. Air can't be adjusted. |
Re: 140H Grader
Rob good luck with your endeavor. Every time I think everything is going along smoothly something always through a monkey wrench in the mix. Ed:D

Re: 140H Grader

Re: 140H Grader
Rob your looking good your really coming along slow but sure nice job. Ed:cool:
|
Re: 140H Grader
Thanks Ed, yeah its really slow, but it's starting to pickup a lil bit. Some of my parts where i need strength, i build the prototype out of wood then have them water jetted in aluminum......just spent 20 bucks on 2 can of Cat yellow, but it worth it. gonna start ordeing hydraulic parts after Christmas.

Re: 140H Grader
Rob I left you a pm. Ed

Re: 140H Grader
Rob, have you thought about using the "Switch 8"
This is quit interesting, making it out of wood is different, wish I could work with wood like that. VERY NICE. -Mike |
