Knight Hauler Longline

Hi...

The Scania T580 is completed, a new project must be found. It will be a truck for my 11 year old son, he wants to make all decissions regarding color, equipment, technics, etc. Let's wait and see what he is requesting :D

During our search for a new project we found such a Longline truck...

http://static.commercialmotor.com/bi...48_(Large).jpg

I remembered that there were a lot of parts left from my Black Devil project, so let try to make it...

The project started...

Now I had to fill nearly 6'' of space...

After a lot of gluing, filling and round about 5 hours of sanding, we have a result:

Hi...

Small update. The floor plate of cabine must also be stretched.

Dividing into two pieces, screwing it into the cabine and glued 2 small bracers.

Tomorrow the gap will be filled by a fitting plate.

Hi...

The last days I started to construct the frame.

I will look somethin like this:

The boxes will get their parts of the footbaord, the middle parts below the tank will be left out.

Good day, That a really nice, build. If you don’t mind me asking. What type of glue did you use to glue the cab together?
Thanks, Kenneth.

Hi...

Today a big step was done, the truck is standing on its own wheels.

It's about 31.1inch (79cm) long.

http://up.picr.de/22370858px.jpg

The next step is to place the motor, I hops the CVD from my Mercedes project will be lomng enough. I'm not willing to buy a new one because of a few mm.

Also I started to think about which electric components will be added. But I think it will be Servonaut again, it is the best quality to get.

That's it for the day...

Re: Knight Hauler Longline

Hi,

it's a truck for my son, so he can decide about the colors. His actual decission is a combination of red and black. Before it was orange and before that it was yellow.

So there might be a lot of additional decissions until the truck is ready to be painted...

Let' wait and see... :D

Hello gismow, your son is one lucky kid, I like what you did so far and red and black would look awesome, so would black and blue, but as you said, this is your son's decision. My son is only 6 and I let him drive once in a while my old aeromax. Keep us posted with any updates, gruesse aus long Island.

Really great job. How long is your truck?

Do you have a link to a construction Thread to read how you've built him?

Thats impressive,, didn't think a truck could be that long and still legally pull anything,, I know it wouldn't be able to in NY at least

Re: Knight Hauler Longline

Hi...

today I started to spray a thin coat of base coat. It helps to find areas that need another bit of attention.

But we have over 30 degrees and it seems it is too warm for painting. The base coat was dry within a minute. So I have to wait with further paintings until it is a bit colder.

Here are some pictures of the first base coat layer. Tomorrow I'll sand it and repair the not yet finishd areas.

I love this build!!! Excellent idea and execution.

Have you thought about making the side sleeper window longer? Would look way loooooooooongggg if that window ran almost the length of the sleeper

Re: Knight Hauler Longline

Hi,

No, I never thought about that. But now it's too late. The Cab is nearly finished. In addition I think it would destabelize the cabine roof.

Major changes can't be done anymore. My son is waiting and asking each day when the painting will start. If I would tell him that I start to redesign the sides, he would kill me... :D

Re: Knight Hauler Longline

Moin, moin...

37° in the shadow, I'm sitting perspiring on the sofa. So if I'm perspiring while I'm sitting, i can do it also while I'm building side pipes...

I got a copper pipe from the hardware store and started my work.

First I needed a bit of sand and my knee. I filled the pipe with sand and taped it on both side. After that I started to bend the pipe over my knee until it had the right angle.

To get the same angle for the second pipe, I taped to wooden blocks on the table together with a paper showing the form of the first bow.

http://up.picr.de/22437434ec.jpg

Now I started to bend the second part on the same pipe, controlling the angle by holding it to the wooden blocks. After 2 or 3 corrections it was OK.

http://up.picr.de/22437431nx.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22437432hc.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22437433tm.jpg

Now I cutted out the parts that I needed from the pipe

http://up.picr.de/22437436vi.jpg

The top areas were cut off with the buzz saw.

http://up.picr.de/22437437it.jpg

The top areas were sanded and the longer pipe was cutted on the correct length

http://up.picr.de/22437438bh.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22437439hp.jpg

http://up.picr.de/22437440vd.jpg

Testing together with the cabine

http://up.picr.de/22437427df.jpg

They will get 90° elbow fittings

http://up.picr.de/22437428lf.jpg

That's it... Back to the sofa to fill up my water reservoir.

Re: Knight Hauler Longline

Hi...

We were shopping and my son selected a color. I was a bit unsecure if it was a good selection, but children sometimes make funny decissions.

He selected TS-36 (Fluorescent red)

But after spaying the first layer, I'm really astonished about the effect. If the sun is shining on it, it's marvelous.

Having this color the truck will never get lost on a parcour.
