Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
I'd like to show you my actual project. The project bases on a standard kit of a Scania R620 http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gc-e6b4.jpg But it will be modified to a T580 Hauler. Something like this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2876/...e139187e_m.jpg The modifications will be made by streching the frame and all needed custom parts will be build of styrene. Let me show you some pictures of the creation until the actual state. First I assembled the needed standard parts on a longer frame (plus 10.5cm) just to get an overview about the final size. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gd-e5f6.jpg Now the modification started. The upper part of the grill must be cut of. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gk-069d.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-go-f5de.jpg The lower part of the cabine must be cut off. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gp-a9a1.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gq-605f.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gs-daca.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gt-30bb.jpg The part I cutted of will not be thrown away, it will be the base of the to be modeled haule. |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
After that I started to build the splashboard (???)
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gv-3493.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gx-acc3.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-gy-076a.jpg As next part I started to create the side plates. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h2-08c5.jpg But now it's time to see the first glance of a hauler... http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h3-6aca.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h4-3435.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h5-d490.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Now it was the time to start to build the hood. Main challenge was to get the same curve in the edges as the bumber bar.
To get the same form of the edges for the hood I modified the deflectors http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h6-b2f6.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h7-c399.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h8-d86e.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-h9-9cf8.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-hb-44c4.jpg After that they were cut down and glued to the cabine part I cutted off. In addition I added some styrene plates to stabalize the hood and to form the hood sides. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-hh-f76a.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-hg-8ebd.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-hd-996a.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-he-d7a7.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-hf-00ac.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
After a while I noticed, that the space between cabine and fifth wheel is too large...
Two possible solutions: - New frame 5cm shorter - Fill the space with something... I decided to follow the second solution... LONGLINER !!!!!!!! http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-i8-4c27.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-id-9b69.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ie-8c7b.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-if-5e9f.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ig-0ff3.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ih-303e.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ii-443c.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ik-884d.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-il-5574.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-im-30ef.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-in-eaae.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-io-ab23.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Step two: The roof
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ip-3d2d.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-iq-2640.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ir-b428.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-is-2f37.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-it-0ff8.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-iu-6826.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-iv-3a06.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-iw-be31.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ix-8757.jpg This is the state not yet filled or sanded. Next step was the second side plate http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-iy-2291.jpg The actual state http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j0-8411.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j1-fae0.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j2-b5dc.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j3-192f.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Next step was to fill the gap between the cabine and the side plates.
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j4-5c04.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j5-17c2.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j6-5dd9.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j7-2dea.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j8-9f39.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-j9-0d7d.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ja-8fec.jpg While they were drying, I started to make the air gaps in the hood... http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jd-9fe8.jpg The position of the middle parts http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-je-ca9c.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jf-fccb.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jh-08d9.jpg The first electric parts found their final position http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jg-1595.jpg Actual state all parts in place http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ji-2468.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jj-556f.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jk-3328.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jl-109a.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jn-f799.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jo-07a9.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-jq-10a5.jpg |

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi,
two additions came to my truck. 1. The fifth wheel got an automatic mechanism to open it. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-k0-e584.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-k1-b4a5.jpg And a small video about the function. 2. The root got a bit of light. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-k3-d6c6.jpg |

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
Today I started with the lights for my truck. A time ago I saw a truck having daytime running lights and I decided to have this also in my truck. First I made the drilled the holes http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kc-19bc.jpg After that I formed the fiber optic cables. They are surronded by a heat shrink tube. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kd-07c5.jpg At the end a LED is placed. And that's it... http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ke-d142.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
That gotta be the best scratch build T-cab I've seen ;) not to mention the longliner part of it, looking good!

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
Longer time ago since my last post, so let me give an overview what happened in the meantime. The rear light have been extended fro 3 lights to 6 lights per side. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kf-8df7.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kh-788d.jpg During the build a colleague showed me his new lowbar. It was amazing, so I decided to build an own lowbar. After searching some brass, I started to build. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kj-2afe.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kk-5f2c.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kl-aba3.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-km-c8ed.jpg After the form was made I decided to add some details and light. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kn-0841.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ko-7f11.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kp-82f2.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
After some time of building with styrene and brass I'd like to change to the electrics again.
I started to build a new board to give the truck a more realistic behaviour. The main features are: - Realistic speed up and engine brake behaviour - Realistic brake behaviour with an emergency brake - Realistic steer behaviour depending on the speed - Slow steering if the truck is stopped - Automatic cruise control feature - Heavy load - The speed and brake is more slow in the same way as it happens with a heavy load on the trailer - Gear mode (forward, neutral, backward) - If gear mode changes, the truck stops automatically in a realistic way - Providing a brake light and a reversing light - steering up to 4 steered axle in correct propotional behaviour http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kt-5751.jpg After that I went back to the back lights, they got their LEDs. http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ku-d5cf.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kv-59c3.jpg The center board for the back lights http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kw-ba38.jpg The center board to spread the lights for front and back http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ky-e995.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-kx-6c29.jpg |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Now it was the time to start painting
http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l0-6cd6.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l7-e945.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l2-a5cd.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l3-217e.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l5-edfb.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l6-2e65.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-le-454e.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-lg-7aab.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-lb-9eaa.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-lc-e545.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-ld-3ab8.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-l9-63fb.jpg http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/file...qp-la-6311.jpg |

Tomorrow I can pickup the frame, it's actually at the painter to be powder painted. Keep you updated. |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Great job. Love the detail with the seats.

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Nice color! Awesome that you're able to make your own electronic components. The festures will give the truck extra realism.

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi
The frame is back from the powder painting. http://up.picr.de/21761720im.jpg So I can start to assemble the truck again. http://up.picr.de/21761721uc.jpg http://up.picr.de/21761722zc.jpg http://up.picr.de/21761723pm.jpg http://up.picr.de/21761724ha.jpg http://up.picr.de/21761725el.jpg |

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
Today I made the last details on the back. Here are some Fotos and two videos of the actual state. The only thing I must do is to find a nice sun shield. http://up.picr.de/21817823yx.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817824xu.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817825pr.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817826zs.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817827kv.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817828ou.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817829pf.jpg http://up.picr.de/21817830rd.jpg Front Front light functions Rear Rear light functions |

Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
Because of technical reasons I couldn't use standard IR technics to lighten the trailer. So I started to create an own solution with Arduino boards. The sender board http://up.picr.de/21905994av.jpg The receiver board http://up.picr.de/21905996hb.jpg The sender board placed in the truck http://up.picr.de/21958318gm.jpg http://up.picr.de/21958319ig.jpg And here's a video of the first ride in the living room. First ride |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Exquisite work.
Your attention to the smallest detail is a credit to you I wish I had your patience |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Amazing build. I'm attempting one myself, so I might use some of your ideas to help me along. I have a question regarding how your cab is mounted. I assume the hood/bonnet hinges forward. But does the cabin remain behind? Or is that hinged too? I also want to build the long cabin, to house my smoke system and various other electronics, But I'm still stuck with how to access it.
|
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi Louisbaby,
thanx... ;) The bonnet is not mounted to the cab. It hinges to the front. It covers the main On/Off switch and also the charge connectors. The cab is mounted in the front with two metal brakets. In the back I use the standard cab holder from the kit. Here are 3 photos showing details: http://up.picr.de/22033697ct.jpg http://up.picr.de/22033698ju.jpg http://up.picr.de/22033699bp.jpg If you want to open to maintain your smoke system, you can replace the srews in the brackets by metal pins having a hole to plug in a metal cramo to keep the brackets un place so you only have to remove thre cramps (2 in the front, 1 rear) and you can pull off the cab. |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Thanks for the reply, what are the 2 positions on the switch for?
|
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
Hi...
Position 1, the battery is connected to the electrics Position 2, the battery is connected to the charging connectors right next to the switch. It gives me the possibility to charge the battery without removing it from the truck. |
Re: Custom build Scania Hauler T580
The truck is mainly finished, only a sun shield is missing. First I wanted to use the standard shield but I wanted to have some integrated lights. So I started to build an own shield.
http://up.picr.de/22052603gf.jpg http://up.picr.de/22052604ik.jpg In addition many comments in my german threads were of the opinion that the rear mirrors are not really nice. They are not Scania like. So I started to build my own ones. First I made the fixing for the cab. http://up.picr.de/21856584xc.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856585lh.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856587rj.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856589gd.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856591lu.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856593ft.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856595xs.jpg http://up.picr.de/21856597qd.jpg |
