I sold my baby today.....
In 1988 I bought my very first car. A 1966 impala. After all these years, divorce, countless moves from place to place and one town to another I always kept it.
I started a complete frame off restoration in 1996 and then once all apart and half way through the rebuild, life started getting in the way and the car has sat ever since. Box upon box of all the parts, every garage I have ever owned for the last 20 years has been filled by the body of my 66. Until today. Time to let go of my baby. I'll never finish the rebuild now. Got so many new dreams and plans for my RC hobby, the old car ain't so important anymore I guess. and I really could use the space! Big day. End of an old chapter.... Here's some pics of some pics I took back in the 90's. All that's left of my glorious 20's if you know what I mean ;):D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psp14lhr4i.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxs0cp9qm.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pst1leh4wy.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pswigedvod.jpg |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I have been there and when finishing it becomes more like work then fun it can be a relief to move on. I hope you have fun with the new RC fund.

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Oh man! I can't believe you pulled the pin! My stomach did a little loop when I read the post you made. I bet you have mixed emotions about it but at least the money will be getting spent back into another passion and not a new roof or whatever. I don't think I will ever sell my truck even though she hasn't hit the road much in the last 12 years. Please tell me you did this to give the "red rocket" a winter home and that it's not on the chopping block too?

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Well Mario you will always have your memories and a bunch of new to come . Maybe you can build a 1/14 rc version . All the best Mike

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Hopefully the new owner does it justice and it rides again.

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Nice car Mario, I can relate when I sold my 69 Camaro! Oh well time marches on, now we can't wait to see what you add to the backyard!

Re: I sold my baby today.....
She was a beauty in her prime! Always had a place in my heart for impalas especially the 59. Feel your pain just sold two of my toys this summer that I've had for a while now but change is good sometimes and new and better things always come along :)

Re: I sold my baby today.....
I'm not there yet , Mario . My 68 barracuda been up in the selling discussions . It sits too much . I did sell off my 69 barracuda ( 1st 1 ) that was hard. I was going to collect them up till they stopped making them . Well till this hobby took root  .

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Thanks everyone. Nice to have the support and understanding from my RC buddies. I figured somebody would call me crazy:lol:
Not to worry Reg the Red Rocket is safe and now has a home for the winter:D It was a weird feeling letting go of the car but, I promised my wife last year I would sell one of my toys so I could get the 4200. She wasn't happy when she found out I bought the hoe prior to selling a toy:rolleyes: so I finally came good on my promise year and a half later.:) So, no new RC fund money technically speaking ;). But this means no more tarp garage in the RC park! Gives me another 350 sqft of grass free area to do something with next spring! Once again my shingle road comes in handy, easy to just reposition once I figure out what I'm going to do. And here is why it's not that hard to let go of the car. I still got my Regency RST. :D http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psqqzn3mcr.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...pszh3ylybo.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psrz3tdqf7.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psxmmbyzdb.jpg http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6aybmdk.jpg I plan on owning this for the next 20yrs, hopefully she lasts. Lol |

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Nice ute Mario
sounds nice as well but the steering wheel is on the wrong side LOL |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I'm with ya Mario, I tried hanging onto a younger mans sport, (the motocross) but the last surgery really put the nail in the coffin for that, then a few friends getting killed with the crotch rockets, and that really hit home. Hopefully I will never have to worry about putting the front end down at 120mph with the RC toys!! To me they are an attitude change and something that isn't going to put me in hospital. So all us other weirdos are understanding and with ya!! kind of went from fast and furious to slow and low :). Enjoy it Mario!! Can't wait to see the expansion in the back yard!!!

Re: I sold my baby today.....
Well Mario, I'm glad to see the red rocket gets a dry place for winter. I'm getting to a similar place with our shop. What seemed so large 5 years ago when we built it now seems way too crowded because of all the work area I need. I either have to sell something big, live with the clutter or add on. Probably the only way I can afford to add on is if I sell something big. Funny how life works....

Re: I sold my baby today.....
I was in the same boat two years ago Mario, when I had to make the decision to let go of the racer.. It was hard but time do change.. Still have my street bug though... and all the little trucks.....

Re: I sold my baby today.....
I will step up and say it , your and idiot! ;)
that is a beautiful car, but I do understand your plight. I am in discussions with the wife over cars at the moment. at present I have three cars, and want a fourth. Im trying to source a 1969 road runner from the states , and she is cool with it. problem is I need to put it in her garage......not so cool :D Apparently I need to sell one of my toys as well :( XR6 turbo 6 cylinder 500hp at the rear wheels http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps74dfl0tn.jpg my little Datsun ute for dragging the dirt bikes around http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4hcvrl9f.jpg or my XR6 ute http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/...pshim7fxzy.jpg I will do as the wife says , but I want it noted Im doing it under protest.:) now I got to pick one to let go... cheers andy |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I would keep the Datsun that should help reduce the choice . Mike

Re: I sold my baby today.....
lol i say any of the fixed or repaired daily's = F.O.R.D would be for sale in fact i think the datsun is worth the most anyway lol by the way
Love the Chevy Mario Great taste |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I had a feeling that the fastest on race day (ford) would get picked on especially when posted in a chevy forum LOL
problem with the Datsun is its old and there aren't many left, if I sell it now I will be in the same boat as Mario . example: I sold my XB GS ford Fairmont coupe ( mad max car) for $30k about 10 years ago in mint condition, wish I never did. now look at what they cost now.... If I use this example of how much the datsun will go up in value , do you think I could use the future cash to extend the shed now... its a long shot . |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I'll race ya Andy. My ute on yours. :D:cop:
|
Re: I sold my baby today.....
See the Found on Road Dead (Ford) made good car many years ago but anything after 1988 is exactly that fixed or repaired daily but the datsun could have value but who knows I got my money on Mario this Race
|
Re: I sold my baby today.....
sure any time Mario, we talking about racing the sub 6 second ( to get it running) Datsun .... LOL.
|
Re: I sold my baby today.....
Mario I forgot to mention, depending on where I pick up my road runner I might take you up on the offer of collecting another speeding ticket.
one of the stipulations for the plymouth , it must be a 426 hemi and 4 speed on the floor. |

Re: I sold my baby today.....
I know the feeling. Been trying/thinking of selling my 83 buick electra park ave. has 78k kms on it and fairly loaded. It's very new feeling though. its like stepping back into the early 80's!
Once again though it barely gets driven. Gravel roads to work = NOPE! And now I have my 73 F100 that is a go anywhere vehicle so it gets to go to work and that just makes the park ave sit even more... https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...db&oe=56EA6FD1 |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
Hey, is that one of those buicks with the spring loaded front grill that can collapse inward? Always loved old buicks. Growing up a friend of mine had a 65 wildcat with the 403. Red exterior with white interior, what a beautiful boat of a car that was. :)
You know what they say, nothing worse for a vehicle than letting it sit for long periods. :cop:;) |
Re: I sold my baby today.....
I am in the same boat but for different reasons ..i have my 85 Toyota 2wd xtracab in my garage and my 1972 Lincoln Mark iv(California car) in my driveway...i have had zero time to finish the little work i have left to do on them .And it seems i cannot find anybody to do the work for me ..nobody is in to the classic and older vehicles especially if they are not muscle cars ...well my lincoln has got the 460 cu 4 barrel carb and puts out 365hp stock the way it is ...lol...Anyway i am at that fork in the road...do i sell one or both or? It is a very hard decision to make ..time will tell....anyway mario...you are not an idiot ..just a man with a plan:D

Re: I sold my baby today.....
I would keep them you never know when spare time arrives . My hot rods are a 1945 Farmall cub needs tranny work and a 1947 International A my convertible . Every once in awhile there happens to be a Saturday afternoon that I don't want to play trains trucks or grandkids out come the wrenches and rebuild something on one of them . Mike
