Grand Hauler

So along with building a frame up,"Thanks again to Russ at truescale". I'm also upgrading some parts on my grand as well as using it as a test bed prior to drilling the frame on the custom. I bought a set of fifth wheel hitches one for each truck I'm debating which looks the best the hitch mounted to the plate then the plate to the frame, or just the hitch mounted directly to the frame? hopefully these pics will post

Thanks Rene, I wish the had the rears to buy, but I thought they looked cool so I bought to check them out. did some more work mounting the fifth wheel, temporarily while true scale makes me a custom one.

Thanks man... I put them on the custom build I'm also doin to help figure out how adjustable the suspension will have to be to lay out.

Re: Grand Hauler

What is suspension movement like with the 8 bag suspension?

Scott M 12-10-2015 10:43 AM

Re: Grand Hauler

Suspension movement is just a little more over the stock setup. the rear fenders only allow for a small amount of travel before the tire hits the top of the fender though, so I'm not completely sure what I could tell you about the amount of articulation you'll see. the rear setup I did on the build for my custom hauler, has a ton of articulation, but it incorporates a leaf spring for holding the truck up, there's pics in the build thread. I was thinking though the link rear suspension I have has so much articulation, you could use it as a crawling setup

I'm pretty sure I bought those from asiatees.. Its a shame, their actually really nice compared to some other rims I have from them. The camera doesn't do them justice.

Tomorrow the fam and I are leaving for a five day Disney vacation:rolleyes:. I'll post some pictures of the progress on the cab

Currently block sanding and spreading bondo on the cab, hopefully I'll have some pictures up tonight of the painted plastic.

Scott M 01-10-2016 08:52 PM

Re: Grand Hauler

Had a little progress and a few set backs. the first time I primed it with high build primer I think I put it on too thick, and really weird but melted small sections of the body. Looked like the primer shrank and left the plastic with cracks that were really soft feeling when I tried to sand it. I removed most of it, put spot putty on the body sanded it all down and re-primed with plastic primer prior to putting on the high build. Oddly enough the rear panel and back fenders came out perfect so I painted those with the final color. the body will have to wait for another day after the high build completely dries.

Still more high build and sanding, the first round of high build I used wasn't meant for plastic I guess and melted the body in some areas. Thankfully this is just a practice run for my other build, but here's where I'm at.

Re: Grand Hauler

Hi guys, sorry for the long time between updates. I've been closet building as they say. So I finished the paint on the body. It came out decent for a rattle can job. I lack the skill of patients, and sanded the filler primer before it had time to cure properly. After I painted the body, if you get close to it you can see my body work. For my first attempt at any type of body mods, and painting I'm happy with it....

Re: Grand Hauler

Thanks! Sorry guys for the long time between updates. After spending hours on the truck, it's hard to spend hours on the computer afterwards uploading pics, I've been doing a couple weeks of building, even though it was supposed to be just a nice low mod box build. It's snowballed....I replaced the chassis with one from rc4wd, I transferred the suspension holes from the old chassis to the new, but everything else needed to be hand fitted. It seems like I've had each of the components mounted and remounted at least 10times. The fitting stages of these trucks are a nightmare, and being my first build I lack experience. I have it about 80% done, and running. When I have time later tonight, I'll post all the progress pics, and the pic of it on the ground and hooked up, it's just missing the front bumper. Lol. Thanks for looking, and the encouraging comments!!
