Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hi...
Really nice truck, but it has one fault. The tie bar (correct word???) is placed before the axle, it must be placed behind the axle to have the correct geometrie (see Ackermann principle) |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Never noticed that! The instructions show to set it up like this. I was kind of wondering why it was in the front while building it. I will look how easy it would be to change around...
Edit: I wonder if it really is necessary on this truck. Since all the axles are locked, the tires will be sliding in turns anyways? |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hi..
That's correct, they will slide, but they will be moved in the correct direction and position to each other so that you only have the slide of the lock and not in addition a slide based on the wrong angle. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I re-arranged the front end and it was pretty easy to flip around the steering bar. I had to drill new holes to mount the steering servo because it hit into the fake engine block.
I got the steering better but its still not that much of a difference, its almost the same angle on each wheel when it turns. I think the steering arms would need to be bent inwards but I don't want to try and mess with that, probably end up breaking them. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...923/k8V6VN.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...921/L9yToU.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...923/vN0Xir.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...923/TX6wza.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...921/8yctxA.jpg |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hi,
cool... ;) I've build a test frame from a MB Actros with the standard steering (tie bar in front). Normally I always change the steering setup as one of the first steps, but I thought it would not be needed for a test frame. Some days later I changed it but I measured the turn radius before. After modifying the steering the turn radius was definitely smaller. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hi,
I have one of these too, I used the same colour as well. The canvass top is dyed green, so if you simply soak it in house hold bleach it will look like this... http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/...3477404_1.jpeg |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Yours looks cool!
I'm actually working on sewing my own canvas, and if anyone is interested I will be selling them. Mine has stainless steel colored eyelets instead of brass, and is a light tan color, with dark brown rope to tie it off. I will post pictures once I get mine all done. Already made 5 prototypes and it is looking very professional. I'm curious do you have any images of the rear end of the canvas? How does the door flap tie off? Also where did you get that trailer in your other image! Looks insane. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hi,
I don't have a photo to hand at the moment, but basically it doesn't have a means of securing ithe flap in place. What the manufacturer has done is to incorporate a sewn in pocket that is the full width of the roll down flap, which you slide a metal rod into to add some weight to the flap. I can get you some pictures later today if you like. The trailer (the one my tank is on) is my own design and I used some suspension units from a cross-rc trailer. I can do a basic build thread if you want to see how it came together. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Yeah I would love to see more info on that trailer it looks awesome.
Also would love some pics of the back of the canvas! |

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Thanks a lot guys. Because of this thread and build videos, I had to order one. I also ordered the canvas cover and sound kit.
I love the looks of this truck. Does this truck exist in real life? Thanks, Alan |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Hey cool!
This is a Russian truck in RL, Ural (not sure the exact one) Its also in a PC game Spin Tires. The truck comes in a billion varieties also. http://www.motorstown.com/images/ural-6x6-02.jpg |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
OK, so the UC6 is a Russian truck...
Thanks, Alan |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Here's the photos of the back of the canvass you wanted. You'll have to excuse all the creases, it was rolled up and I've only temporarily attached it to show you the back.
http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8x2myl4c.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/...psenn5hafd.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/...psxbyibzma.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1jj6zaio.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/...psudxk9op6.jpg It really needs stitching down each edge to prevent it from becoming frayed. Hope this helps. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Thanks for the images of the back, I think mine came out much better!
I got a near final canvas done, only thing I need to change is the rope that ties the canvas to the truck is still a bit too thick. I came up with a really nice way to slip the back rod into the canvas, it uses eyelets for that. I also made all the tie-down points much more evenly spaced so all the rope has a nice zig-zag pattern to it. Also the rear flap has a piece of velcro so you can remove it if you want to. I made patterns and I plan to sell a few of these, anyone interested in buying one? Price will be $75. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/4NxaHV.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...924/4Z4HtJ.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...924/glcLLN.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/VfF4Lg.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/ixHwhw.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...921/bH1Hpg.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...923/strWpn.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/BdEk7t.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/k2MBlw.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...922/0r3rAt.jpg |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Yours certainly looks better at the back for sure and the removable flap is a good idea. The only thing I would say is the stiching along the side looks wonky, maybe it's just uneavean tension you have on the eyelets, but if not you need to sort that out. I know mine looks a bit rough at the back, but if you look at the photo of mine further up this post, you'll see the stiching down the side is straight.
Nice job though, it looks great. |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I did have a lot of tension on the eyelets, pic below of it laying flat.
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/160...923/O474AR.jpg |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I thought it was the tension and not your stitching. Maybe the material you're using is too stretchy, the one I have gives a little when it's pulled, but not what I'd call stretches. I think that helps to keep the stiching straighter when under tension.

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
So who has these for sale? Or where to purchase?

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Got my UC6 today.. YEA !!
Still waiting for the 9X radio and speed controller. Question: What function on the transmitter menu slows down the steering servo? Thanks, Alan |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
Got the 9X radio today, downloaded the manual and still can't figure out how to slow down the steering servo unless it is the rudder dual rate thing?
Any help here. Thanks, Alan |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I have a Smartieparts board installed in my 9X radio, I'm not sure how to set anything up on the stock one. Check out here: http://smartieparts.com/shop/index.p...roducts_id=383

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
OK Thanks. I'll look into the Smartie Parts Programmer..

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I like the truck - looks great and 1/12 sounds like a nice size.
I would love to see size comparison pics between the Tamiya rigs and this. I have had a King hauler, built a Axial scx-10 6x6 using Bullhead body, and currently have a Tamiya Aeromax 6x6 but I always want BIGGER! If I could sell some things maybe I could get one? :) |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I will take a side-by-side shot next to my knight hauler in a couple days.
I've been working on getting together a couple small upgrade kits to sell for this truck. Mostly just the screws you need to change around the steering in the front, and also a spring damper kit in the back to give the rear wheels a limit on how far down the suspension can travel. I actually had my leaf spring bend downwards when I tried to climb over something really tall. Nothing limits the travel downwards to prevent damage. Also a full ball link upgrade with metal ball joints instead of the plastic ones everything comes with. AND sewing a final canvas cover, I want to make a couple of those ready to sell too. |

I would like that too! Been watching this thread, and the videos... my kinda wheeled truck. Jeff |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I made a new video today, the UC6 makes an appearance at the end!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fGPntrUTDc I took some pics of the size difference of the Tamiya Knight Hauler. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...923/CIQkru.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/agcgXS.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/XVJuwx.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...924/ObYmAH.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/lJzz4D.jpg |

This thing is huge compare to knight hauler. Love your Uc6!

Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I'm working on a big upgrade kit with a ton of hardware. Also a overhaul to the rear suspension parts. They were made out of the flexible plastic and really the only weak point I found on the whole truck. I will be making a video when its ready to go of all the differences and how to install it. Anyone interested? No price figured out yet.
I also decided not to sell the canvas covers. Pic of the CAD for the overhaul pieces: http://content.screencast.com/users/...09-07_2033.png |
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
What mods did you do to the Battle Systems in the tanks? Tamiya TigerI should have stopped when you shot it and the lights lit up. 3D printed tanks looked nice!!
|
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I think that Tiger is just all stock, its not mine so I'm not totally sure.
|
Re: CROSS RC UC6 6x6 Ural Truck
I got the upgrade kit installed on mine. If anyone is interested in ordering one let me know, I have not figure out a price yet. It comes with metal ball joints and better links to replace every single link on the truck, new hardware to rearrange the front steering bar to the back side, assorted different screws, metal dampers (from the Tamiya trucks) to limit the suspension downward motion to avoid damage, and 3d printed parts to replace the flexible parts on the rear suspension. The printed parts use coarse sheet metal screws, they bite into plastic so much better then using fine pitch metric. I already stripped one of the stock parts out that used the fine pitch into plastic.
The dampers are a critical part of the upgrade, they keep the axles from bending downwards. If you notice in my videos when I tried to test the strength of the truck the tires had so much traction the axles would actually bend under the vehicle, this upgrade prevents that, aswell as prevent any damage from trying to crawl over large objects. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/TiMQOz.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/768iq6.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/ywHwTA.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/V5tU6i.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...921/lQGTHl.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...923/9jKcpm.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...924/zbsl0T.jpg |
