Track Loader or Wheel Loader
With the daycab sold and me focusing on getting my dump finished I'm trying to get back to what is going on my tag. Really want the Carson but everytime I get close to the full price of it life gets in the way. Then I thought about the Magom TL14 but didn't know because of the low ground clearance. Now with them making a wheel loader I'm curious about that. The price seems reasonable. So what's better to you guys, wheeled or tracked? Or shoud I just stay the course and keep trying for the Carson.

I am going wheel.........less hassle.........are you ? :)

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I think the Carson Liebherr is a nice kit and a solid performer, but that's just from reading here and watching youtube. On the down side it looks like the kit needs quite a bit of work, the frame looks like it almost needs sandblasting and painting right out of the box.
http://i1159.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa2db3fe.jpg I also wish the kit came complete vs. you buy the loader, then you buy the motors, then the drives, etc., etc.... |
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I always liked the way Mitch's Deere 755D looked!!

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Yeah I have all those pictures saved. I think its almost 3500 for everything but I just can't seem to get there without me having to spend the money elsewhere.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Personally I believe, if it has tracks, it has problems. I vote wheel loader.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Tires all the way!! And electric if possible

I have the LR 634 and live in a sandy coastal region so the tracks work well for me. It does not get stuck. As for the work required to build the kit, for me it's half the fun!

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Anyone have both?
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I've got none, but I wish I've got both!

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
The kat weeps oil just like the real thing. The dump
Truck was so bad with the wedico Piston I turned it into the dump trailer |

Wheeled loaders just feel smooth and natural when loading a truck. Constantly pivoting/turning back and forth when loading a truck with a tracked loader just doesn't feel smooth to me. Having said all of that though, the Carson loader is a very well made machine and well worth the money. The tracks/drives work very well and the somewhat short length of the tracks (front to rear) allow it to rotate better than most racked vehicles. |
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I agree with Scott about about the smoothness! I have my scratch built 955K track machine and the converted Bruder 574. For loading dirt there is no comparison for me. I would run the wheel loader every time! I even prefer the wheel loader to an excavator if I am just loading out of a pile. The wheel loader is fast and fun.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
In real life, the tracked loader just makes a mess ie, likes to dig it's self a hole with the tracks in tight spaces ( some operators like to doo that in a large space too ) We've owned 2 both dressers/IH 100E and a 175C . Dad still has the 100E but still barely gets used . THe excavators and dozers where always our prime machines . Excavators always dug basements out faster and cleaner with the dozer dressing the bottom and pushin the spoil off/away. As for a rubber tired loader, why you think they're used in the quarry ;)?

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Agree , for loading out, wheels. For pushing , tracks. If I had to make a decision on one, I would definately go with a wheel loader. Tracks on our models are the worst thing. You really have to keep an eye on loading dirt or whatever into the tracks from sharp turns. Track loaders are cool but more practical and clean to use a wheel loader. Really depends on the majority of work you plan on doing with it.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
think wheels is easier i had a bruder convert i did few years ago and it was harder to drive. not bad but the wheel loader i have now is so much more fun!
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Thanks for your input guys. It will be mainly for loading the Dump. I've just always had this obsession with the track loader since i saw my first rc construction video. Was offered a carson for 2500 shipped no radio. Thinking about just buying it.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I know nobody has mentioned the Wedico cat 966G and I know it has fallen out of favor with a lot of people but Smaulhaul, Scott, has made several nice videos of one pushing and moving dirt. It seems quite impressive in his videos, wish I had one. PMD's price for a 966G kit and all it's gear is right at $7,000!:jaw: At first I thought that was a ready to run model but I was wrong.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Yeah that's out of my price range at the moment. Its nice tho, I've seen a few of his vids.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
What about the RC4WD Wheel Loader about half the price as the WEDICO and probably a better machine? I really like mine it's been very reliable and strong, plus I have the quick attach dozer blade and adjustable forks for it.
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Yeah I like that one, however It won't fit my project plan. Too big to fit on my Tag trailer. So far from what I see a track loader will and a bruder size wheel loader will. Another reason why I wanted a carson.
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
the rc4wd is a Chinese cat 980 sized machine

Bigford I'm not looking at excavators just the loaders right now.
David I've been in love with them forever. Its what made me want to get into this side of the hobby. |

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Ok so I dont then lmao, isn't the RC4WD onebthe 870K? And that this is bigger than my trailer.
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
that's why I said it was a cat 980 size machine. as its to large for your trailer.
that magom is about as large as I would go |
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Still waiting for them to upload video of it. Who knows maybe i can pull off a carson and a magom.
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Another alternative to Magom is CTI. They make a nice metal conversion of Bruder's wheel loader.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
They even have a sweeper that you can buy to clean up the job site

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Muddying up the waters some, Magom also makes a metal track loader kit. Cheaper than the Carson.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
I know I was going to purchase that when it was released but I didn't like the ground clearance. I figure if I can work out this deal for the Carson I'll try to get a Magom wheel loader later. Or vice versa. Even tho i sold my daycab I do plan on buying another Grand later.

Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
if I had the choice and money would get the track loader
|
Re: Track Loader or Wheel Loader
Wheel loaders require more maintenance. While they are faster, they can get stuck easier and some RC loaders use transmission oil which needs to be changed on a regular basis to prevent damage to the transmission. Tracked loaders do leave scuff marks when ever they turn and they are not as fast.
I like both and I can`t say either is bad because I love them both. |

I have never seen an RC model use transmission oil but then I don't get out much.
