Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Fred not trying to be smart but how do you get two 3 speeds to do 9 speeds? Ed
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Nice build!
Great idea on running 2 trannies, that should be fun to run. |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck

Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Freddy
what size square styrene are you using for the car rack on top of the cab? just that part is amazing really can't wait to see more of this truck. Merritt |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Freddie I keep telling you nice rig,is it done yet?
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
That's a pretty unique rig. I have to say I've never quite seen one like that on the road.
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Freddy, I picked up a rastar 1/14 and they are pretty nicely detailed with crap RC components. I tore the guts out and will be working on hobby grade stuff for it.
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Lovin' it Fredward!:D Or should I say FredwardGearwardDriveward? lol:D
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Hey Freddy, what kind of rear end are you using in that truck & did you just add the drain plug to it?
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Donny, those are rcchannel, not shure about the drain plug tho
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
The drain plug is part of the axle rcchannel is into the details.

Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Haven't checked this build out for a while, Fred. It's looking really good. The rack turned out great. Can't even tell it's styrene, now that it's painted. :D

Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Hey cool work on the frame work it must have been a big pain in the rear working it all out, can`t wait til you start on the trailer. do all the ramp`s, stand`s lock in place & what did you use to lock `em in with ?? any pixs of them please??
cheers paul tiny-trucker |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
WOW! Thanks guys! Glad you boys are liken the build so far.
Those diffs are all aluminium & the drain plug is stock. The only problem is there a tad wider than the Tamiya diffs but found ways around that. sk1cent,the exspanded metal is from pmd & works rather well for this build. Tiny-trucker,the framing wasn't to bad to make, but figuring how to make it come off & on the truck was a different story. Really wish I had some new progress to post on this baby. But since this forum opened haven't done dittle on my builds. So hope'in this week I can get back on my building again. Later today I'll do up some pics of the ramp locking system,& the sizes of the square stock used for car hauler. Thanks guys! FGD |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Fred how did you find a way around the wider axles? Your doing a nice job. Ed
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Yea Ed,I think you were one of the first guys I saw useing these babies.Had the truck driveline done,& started installing the mud guards & quarter fenders. When I noticed the diff was like a 1/4" wider than the stock ones. So got out mr trusty dremel & went to work on setting the hex mount a tad deeper. Well after makin a real mess out of one of my rims, decided it might be better to get the mill involed in this butchin.
Couldn't hog out enough of the rim to make up the differance,so also turned hexes down a tad & still was a little wide.So then came up with the ole-spings in mud guard mounts. Now you really have to look to see there just a tad to wide. Yea there to wide for dualls,& to narrow for super singles to look right on the rig. Can't believe rc channel didn't think of that when they made these axles. But there still bad to the bone! FGD |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
I also saw that they were to wide. I haven't found a solution to the problem yet but I am going to get a set of Scale Art axles. I think some material can come off the inside of the axle were the bearings are I don't know how much. I f you look at the housings the cap on the end is pressed on and that may be a way to shorten them. Ed

Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
HEY HEY Time to dust off this old thread and see if we can breath new life into it..
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Great work so far and really unique truck. I've seen pictures of "Toters" haul a pilot car, but never on the roof with front loading ramps.
So what car do you plan to carry? I imagine you'll have to modify the car speeds to really slow it down so you can drive it up there. Looking forward to your updates. Brian |
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
Whats the update on this one pops. I wanna see some progress.
|
Re: Gaullee Pa,Always wanted a 9 spd Atlas movin truck
