Conveyor Project
Here is a short progress video of my current build, a 3' x 2" conveyer. Don't have a fast enough gear motor so I'm sort of stuck while I wait on new motors to show up.
Might try to do short video updates as opposed to a photo sharing solution. Wish the video had a thumbnail here on the site, is it something I can do different to show a thumbnail instead of a link? https://youtu.be/Kzk-oCrS6sM Note: I guess my phone uploads a SD version so I'm uploading an HD version using the YouTube app and will fix the crappy resolution when it is ready. Re: Conveyer Project
That's some great progress. Look forward to the next video.

Re: Conveyer Project
Thats a nice tensioner design... i think it would be easy to do to my bruder brass build... mill a slot in the idler end and add some angled brakets...
Also the little update video you asked for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DsMjBCIgkw |

Re: Conveyer Project
Belt speed looks good, seems to be plenty of power. I'm suprised that toolbox liner works that well as a belt. Can't wait to see it with a little bigger hopper so it's easier to hit.
That whole setup is great all around! The new red truck looks pretty slick. |
Re: Conveyer Project
I made a few small adjustments and I am making a second belt. Going to make the new one a tiny bit shorter, I was running the springs to the max compression. I also plan to do the splice on an angle. Then I want to do some more extended testing to make sure i have the bugs worked out.

Works like a champion. Well Done Jim. I Might need to be loaded at C/F next year ;o)

Power on/off switch ideas?
Guys,
I'm hunting for a switch to put on the new conveyor but thought I'd ask for ideas from the engineering brain trust and see if there are any neat options. I want to add a power on/off to the conveyor that I can turn on and off with the bucket of the dragline or possible a wheel loadert. I'm thinking a simple toggle switch with maybe a short extension on it to make it easy to move and tall enough to reach easy with the bucket. I would mount it near the hopper end. Don't want to make anything too complicated. I would be ideal if it ran the belt long enough to unload and then shut itself off but then it should be running before any additional material is dumped into the hopper to prevent problems of starting the belt with static load already on it. Some sort of optical sensor would be cool but out of my electrical game. I am running the motor on a 6 cell nimh battery so 7.2 volts for the motor is fairly important to belt speed but this could be adjusted if needed using different pulleys on the motor and drive drum. Any thoughts? Jim |
RPM and Belt Speed
I checked the final shaft rpm and it is turning 120 RPM. The motor is rated 170 at 12v, but I'm running it at 7.2v and there is a slight reduction in my pulleys. The drive drum is 3/4" D. My belt is 70" long and it travels four time around in one minute so that would be 23.33 feet/minute.
Hope this helps, Jim |
Re: Conveyer Project
Get one of those cheap wireless control switches. I saw one used on someones Sand Master conveyor at one of the meets.
A quick search found one of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/INSMA-Relay-...4AAOSwLEtYjcgk |
Re: Conveyer Project
maybe a micro switch with a roller bar thing on it under the belt and when you put dirt on the belt it will turn on.
|
Re: Conveyer Project
I ended up with a micro switch and a lever arm that can be moved by the crane bucket or a wheel loader.

Re: Conveyer Project
Works like a charm! Ill prob be copying your belt tensioner design when i build mine. Love the dragline too.

First real test of the conveyor at Brownsville!

The best part of waking up, construction equipment puts in your cup.
Looks like it's working great |
Re: Conveyer Project
Decided to add my videos of the National Part,e Steam Show here...
I have a fair bit more footage but i want to do some editing to it. Here is a quick little unedited time lapse of the top of the pile where is spent most of my weekend! The dit was excellent this year and the weather was perfect for the show and camping at night! https://youtu.be/duDX7nT0J8Q More to come in the next few days! Jim |

Re: Conveyer Project
Cool time lapse, but that's really quick.
Yeah, i could totally see a commercial! Get the dragline to move beans to grinder or crusher, bulldozer opens crusher drawer, clamshell moves coffee from grinder to conveyer, up to coffee maker, brew... Even better if you can also fill the water or get the coffee into a cup to you remotely. |
Re: Conveyer Project
Ya, I wish it was bit longer also. I am thinking about trying to do a ALL DAY, or ALL WEEKEND time lapse next time so we can see the changes to the pile as it occurs over the day or two.
I was about to pour the coffee into the maker and the conveyor was sitting right there so I thought "wait a minute, I should use the conveyor for this step!" |
Re: Conveyer Number 2
I finished a second conveyor, this one is 18" long, half as long as the first one.
I'm planning to make a few more and the ultimate plan is to assemble some form or sorting and/or crushing plant. https://youtu.be/VX_oMvpx1Mg Jim |
Re: Conveyer Project
Trying to use google photos, lets see if I can post a picture of conveyor number two?

Dang it! Show me how you posted it as a pic. Was that the Google or I fur?
Thanks |
Re: Conveyer Project
Jim, in Imgur click the pic you uploaded then copy and paste the code from the message board option in your post here.

Imgur.
http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...?t=4057&page=2 Read post 29. Use size H. I don't feel like learning google. What tires on on the Structo? I like the tread, they look great with the stock hubcaps |
Re: Conveyer Project
Tires/wheels are from the Dromida DT 1/18. I might make a short vid about them...

Re: Conveyer Project
Nice belt loader. I really like how much adjustment you built in everywhere.
That's a slick way to do hubcaps. I may need to find a set of those and see about making into whitewalls so my truck looks classy again. - Tried the hubcaps on my Traxxas tires, fits the fake rim perfectly. |
