Bruder lowbed
I bought 2 Bruder lowloader trailers and made one roughly scaled 53' lowbed.

Re: Bruder lowbed
I cut just in front of the wheels and then added about 7 inches from the center portion of the donor trailer. I bought some angle aluminum to join the 2 pieces.

Re: Bruder lowbed
At this point if all I was going to haul around was my Bruder excavator it wouldn't have needed any more strength but I thought I might use it for my Premacon machines so I added more aluminum to the underside.

Re: Bruder lowbed
Nice. Those Bruder trailers do fairly well and can accommodate many modifications.
What are you mainly going to haul on it? |
Re: Bruder lowbed
I would later find out that this trailer would hold a 185 pound friend, the deck portion anyway. The neck was the weak link and the reason it wouldn't be strong enough for use with my Premacon machines.

Re: Bruder lowbed
I used it for display , as long as it was hooked up to a truck with the landing legs down for support I could put my 30pound Premacon machines on it. Raise the legs and the trailer would bend at the neck.

Re: Bruder lowbed
I painted it black , added a wood deck with extra aluminum strips that I polished to give it lots of bling.

Re: Bruder lowbed
I added a King hauler rear bumper, it looks good on the trailer but I never cared for the look of it on the truck.

Re: Bruder lowbed
Being a Peterbilt guy , I flipped the mirrors from one side to the other and mounted them upside down. Doing this lowers them as you can see in this pic. Note the landing gear is down to support the weight.

Re: Bruder lowbed
The wheels needed a little bling so I got creative. My office chair had these chrome caps that covered where the screws were in the arm rest. A little prying and they popped off and made perfect hubcaps.

Re: Bruder lowbed
I wonder if it'd be possible to reinforce that neck area to make it as tough as the rest of the trailer?

Re: Bruder lowbed
I pulled that trailer around for an entire weekend , loading it up with paper towels to simulate the big rolls ( seen in back ground ) at one point a co-worker stood on it and went for a short ride until the neck cracked. Didn't break mind you, it stayed together no problem even at 40 mph. Eventually it did break when we tried to load our other yard truck on it.

Re: Bruder lowbed
Have you any plans to build an RC version of your work rig?

Hey, don't feel bad about not having a bunch of equipment for building/fabricating, a lot of us don't have that stuff. And thats Ok too. I have a bunch of hand tools and my trusty dremel with many attachments,,, and I have built and modified all kinds of stuff. But, we are all amazed with what is scratch built on here by people using those larger tools. It is truly amazing.... |
Re: Bruder lowbed
Yeah it’s exclusive rc that built the shunt truck. Think he builds them for 2500$.

Re: Bruder lowbed
Ah, that is right... He did a nice job on those...
|
Re: Bruder lowbed
He sure does, I remember when I saw his build thread I was very impressed.

Re: Bruder lowbed
To polish all the aluminum strips I believe I started with 400 grit paper and gradually used finer and finer paper until it looked nice then I used my electric drill with a buffing wheel attachment and some Mothers aluminum polish to give it a nice shine.
