Some real old & some real new.Now Sterling Dump!
Had this here idea a couple of years ago to run the hydraulic pump off of a trany pto.
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5213.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5214.jpg Pto works perfect,Then came time for the pump to hook to it.No dice with out spending a small fortune. Also had the chassis all built,When useing the pto,you need to put the trany neutral. So it even has a parking brake. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5219.jpg She's a 6x6 http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5217.jpg Was going to be an Aeromax dump, now she's going to be a Sterling. Now the new. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5229.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5221.jpg First screw drive I've driven via a pto. Can't wait to see how this pans out. Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: Some real old & some real new

Re: Some real old & some real new
Well..Thanks Guys!
The body work is all done, except need to notch back of cap a bit for pto drive shaft. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5238.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5239.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5240.jpg Managed to git the screw drive working. Man,it was a tight fit. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5236.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5235.jpg Here's the shake down run. I couldn't ask for better. Have a little machining to do for clearance, but I'm a happy guy! http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5234.jpg Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: Some real old & some real new
That is too cool! How can you put the trans in neutral?
|
Re: Some real old & some real new
Looks great Freddy but I am wandering how you are going to put the trans in neutral with out it wanting to go into one gear or the other.
Travis |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Yea,kinda left them trany mods out of the pics. I will tell you that it does have a neutral & all 3 gears. Best of all,the pto has a lot of gear reduction due to where I tied into trany.
Well got the back of cab notched out. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5241.jpg Also made the proper clearances in screwdrive. She's a lot better now. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5242.jpg This baby has as much lift power as the trailers!:D I LOVE IT!!:D:D:D Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Good job Freddy! I like it!
Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug. |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Loving the pto that's ingenious. Keep the updates coming

Re: Some real old & some real new
Very cool, Fred. Kind of similar to what the Wedico 3 speeds use. They have an output shaft on the transmission also, for PTO work, and the axles can be disconnected by the differential, so the transmission doesn't have a neutral.
I'm curious if you can drive the truck forward with the PTO raising the box, or if you have to choose one function or the other? Either way, a working PTO is very neat, even if you have to be stopped to run the PTO. Nice job. |
Re: Some real old & some real new
absolutely love it! :)
|
Re: Some real old & some real new
Now Freddy you know I'm kind of fond of the mods to the cab...but tapping into the transmission to make a PTO that drives the dump body...that is just next level stuff! Very cool. Just awesome. Nice work!
|
Re: Some real old & some real new
nice build i am also curious can you be in first gear and still raise the bed? keep up the awsome work

Guys,Thanks a ton for the nice complements & comments! Thought I was done with the flippin body work. Forgot, gotta have back side of fenders. Not useing the flare things or ground effects, what ever there called. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5250.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5251.jpghttp://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5252.jpg Also made up light plate & hung the ole-mud gaurds. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5248.jpg Thanks for lookin! Also the pto is ingenious, nice work. |
Re: Some real old & some real new

Re: Some real old & some real new
Nice job on the pto fred...
|
Re: Some real old & some real new
WOW! Thanks Guys! Should of done this from the get go,instead of playin around with the pump idea.
Needed the proper length tanks for this baby. So did some butchin on a set of king tanks. This is what I came up with. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5263.jpg Then just had to put the bumper on er,just to get the feelin.:D http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5265.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5267.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5264.jpg Ole-HM Joe sure does a nice job on these Sterling parts! I haven't been this excited over a build in awhile. Can't wait to throw this puppy in the dirt! Thanks for lookin! FGD |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Really like the E- brake Freddy .... Please don't paint it black.......
|
Re: Some real old & some real new
The truck looks fantastic the sterling trim really makes a huge difference... Now Im wanting it for my aero.... I know you've prob been asked before but where are the rims from-- they look good on the dump body's. Anyway Keep moving that bar any higher and we'll all just have to live with mediocrity on our builds...LOL Well at least me.....
--Dan |
Re: Some real old & some real new
trick setup on the PTO
the grill trim really sets it off |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Real nice work as usual Freddy. I'm still trippin' on the PTO idea...got me thinking about a bunch of stuff (including stealing your idea to run a hydro pump :p). Thanks for compliments on the Sterling parts! :D:D She's looking real good.
Can't believe your gonna beat me to the dirt on this one! Well..nevermind...yes I can...too much work and not enough play! Joe |

Figured if your tied up makin parts, that gives me the jump I need to get the Sterling dump in the dirt before you!:D:D:D Just kiddin!:D:D Just kinda worked out that way!:D:D Look at the good side here.I'm showing off your wonderful parts for you. While your tied to your mill! :D Perfect! Between your grill parts & Steves rims,LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL! Only trouble w/this is,now next time you come out w/something this kool.I'll probably be the last dog on the bone to git my pinkies on the stuff! Hey Guys! Thanks for the complements! Couldn't have done it w/out ole-heavy metal Joe! FGD :D |
Re: Some real old & some real new
I agree with Izzy. PLEASE NOT ANOTHER BLACK TRUCK!! While I do like a black truck every now and then, not everything you build- I know you made the snow plow a different color but everything else is black :( A nice dark metallic blue would set the Sterling parts off.
The truck looks outstanding. Joe's parts are right up there with the best of the custom part makers. Wish I had the funds to get some:(:( Lynn |
Re: Some real old & some real new
Na black black and black other wise freddy's drivers will think he is changing fleet colours and going soft:D:p but then you need lots of chrome or highly polish Alu to keep it looking good LOL
Cheers Tracy |
Re: Some real old & some real new
That is some great work Freddy that pto is a cool setup!!!!!
Mike |
Re: Some real old & some real new
OK! This one won't be black! It's gunna be white.:D
Lynn,I have all different color trucks,You might not of seen them. Now every construction company I know of has a color for there fleet. My company trucks were black,so I kinda like black trucks.:p So there...:p:p:D Well exhaust & front of axle mud guards are on. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5272.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...mppics5273.jpg Thanks for the suggestions, comments & complements! Also,Thanks for lookin! FGD |
