Future Truck build

I have decided on my next truck build and it definitely test my styrene skills and it will have to be all custom made. Later when I actually get started on the build I will do a build tread and put a link to it in this thread. Here are the pics of what is to come.

How about this Travis - the cab from scratch - no chop and glue on this one - break out the old drawing paper and calculator. I think it would be a terrific project.

Re: Future Truck build

Buddy @ CAT was saying these are primarily built by International and rebranded. Thought that was interesting.

fhhhstix 07-11-2011 07:56 PM

Re: Future Truck build

Yes they are built by International and branded as a CAT. This is not the first and only thing CAT has done this with. JLG makes the CAT branded telehandlers and some of the excavators are made over seas. We should be getting some of the 1:1 trucks at work this fall and as soon as we do I will post some pics.

Re: Future Truck build

Yes navistar is building them. But Cat claim's there truck will be different. Kinda sound's like Chev vs GMC. Hmmm and the discussion begin's, lol.

Re: Future Truck build

I work for a CAT dealer and this is nothing new for cat to farm out the work as I said before. Intertrashional is building the truck to Cat's design. If you need a part for the truck you will have to get it from a CAT dealer and all parts will have a cat part no. If you need warranty you will have to go to a CAT dealer International won't be able to help. Cat is providing the components and Int is assembling them. I don't really know how to clearly say this but the CAT truck is not a converted Int. Yes it will look similar as Int is building the truck. The CAT dealer I work for is really exited about these trucks as they should boost our business at the dealerships since CAT has stopped producing on highway engines for other truck manufacturers.

Re: Future Truck build

Hey Travis, the most interesting thing to me, is the engine's, both side's of the fence told me in vegas, that they will have there own quirk's to keep them different. Look at the intake manifold's and turbo setup, one of the difference's. And the Cat cx31 vs Allison will be very interesting to me, to see how it play's out. The Navistar rep told me they were trying very hard to get away from some of the Cat c-15's shortfall's, we'll just have to wait and see? I'm sure you will be able to fill us in on truck's. I've owned and driven Mack's
(2) for 17 year's, I'm ready for a change, LOL. 23 year's on my own, I've also had a Western Star, and a Ford. I'm looking forward to the truck openhouse at Wheeler Machinery, this fall. Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug.

fhhhstix 07-12-2011 09:28 PM

Re: Future Truck build

Neil from a mechanics point I hope the new engines are a lot better than the C15's what a nightmare. We have a lot of customers at work that keep pouring money into the older trucks with mechanical engines do to all of the problems with the newer C15's.

Travis

doodlebug 07-13-2011 07:49 AM

Re: Future Truck build

Travis, you would have more experience with those problem's than me! The Navistar rep tried to convince me that, they were trying to eliminate the problem's of the C-15, I just told him, to the effect of "I don't know which side of the emission's fence to be on"
ISX Cummins, is my first choice this week, But the dang exhaust gas RE-PUKE-ULATION
make's all of them unreliable!
Cat had a gal working there truck booth, I mentioned that I like large hood's (CL Mack),
and she gave me a funny look, to which I explained to her, go find a short hood Sterling, and count how many cylinder's are behind the firewall? Do you want to work on one? She hadn't considered that. Yes, I know she hasn't been around truck's for 25 year's, LOL! Yes I like trade show's. Anything to help the mechanic out, count's in my book.
At any rate, I'm sure you will raise the bar with this build too!

Spudd, you do have a valid point about the look's, I ran with Mack Granite's all nite, I see what you mean. Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug.

Re: Future Truck build

Well I got a chance to get some pics today of the new CAT truck. This dump truck was headed to Indy for a trade show and they stopped buy to show it off. This truck is 475 HP connected to a CAT automatic transmission. I have not got a chance to see our new one they bought at work for a delivery truck but from what I here it is pretty sharp.

Re: Future Truck build

I keep seeing a yellow and black Cat truck on my way to work. I think it's hauling gravel to one of the many well sites around our area. It appears to be the new Cat yellow not HiWay Yellow and it really stands out with that combination.

My saleman didn't even bother to call me about the open house, Not happy about that!
I haven't seen any on the freeway yet, wonder if Wheeler Machinery has sold any yet?

I don't think it's an ugly truck. Different, but not ugly. Looks like a shark with the unusual grill opening.

Hey, I'd take it! :D

Hey travis you could go into the running for ugly rig of the year with that CAT model, I think this CAT could put you on the other end of that scale :Dhttp://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...98186620_n.jpg

that 1 is nice looking Tracy , They pretty much kept the Prostar look . the vocational model they should've kept the paystar hood  would look better ;) they might as well put it in line with they're ugly's , the ADT's and new ridgid frame style :p:p:p

Re: Future Truck build

You may think there ugly but I am the one who has to look at them every day. To me it looks a lot like a CH Mack. I guess the verdict is out and I will keep this build to my self.:D

Boy, this is a fickle group. First I’m told that the International Harley-Davidson is ugly and now it’s said that this Mack is ugly.

I’ve always liked diversity among my trucks. It’s the differences among the commonalities that make them beautiful. Like classic cars and women, it’s the curves and individual design that give them appeal to the eye. The paint schemes (similar to women’s make-up) help to enhance the underlying beauty that’s already there.

I just saw two Ct660 tri-axle chassis sitting in my companies yard waiting for dump bodies. They are different looking to say the least. They are tough looking! I'm looking forward to see your build!

Re: Future Truck build

Im liking the look of both.... The dump could use a bit of a pick me up but if anyone can pull off a build and make it look good, it's in the right hands.
