Bruder Liebherr loader build

5 Attachment(s)
Starting on the loader, have a long way to go on it.Already have a few parts.
Using the same 6 channel transmitter as on my hobby engine excavator, just ordered a extra reciever a while back.Have to order two more gear motors, and the servos,a little at a time, lol.
Started on the front portion, using 22 guage sheet metal. Will be using screwdrives.Going to make a scratch built boom next.Trying to get the front portion done, then the rear.Have some more wheels I may use,see how it goes.Have a few pics so far.

Thankyou Pumptech. I have been looking everywhere for a detailed conversion on the Bruder Loader. I can't wait to see how you do it..

Re: Bruder Liebherr loader build

Although after looking at your pictures I know I do not have the necessary metal skills that you have and will have to devise a way to do a conversion with the existing plastic. Or JB Weld enhanced plastic lol.

The rear section of the model is going be a little tricky with the swivel axle, have a few ideas already.

Try to keep it light. My track loader is just about the limit on what the actuators can move.

Cool project Neil! It will be fun watching this come together.

Yes, I agree. Neat looking project, and I can appreciate your metal fabrication skills. The front half of the loader is looking good, rebuilt with metal. I would like to see some larger photos, if it's possible. Your pictures are a little on the small side. Keep it up!

Thanks for the compliments,I've tried to upsize the pics ,480x360 pixels is as large as it will let me for some reason..I'll look into it some more.

LOL! Did somebody call me?

Hey Pumptech, I'm the one with the Kyosho Hanomag loader manual, if you want a copy, pm me. Richard/vanisle & Travis have copies already for screw drive idea's.

Look's like a neat project. Cheer's, Neil.

I wonder if your screw drives could be made to be used for the turning rams.

Hey Thanks Neil
Thanks for offering ,going to try the auger bit method first, same as my excavator, see how that goes, seem to get good power from them.If that doesn't work may have to give you a ring, thanks again.:)

Hey Mike ,I thought about that, was leaning more on using a high torque servo with linkages.Have played around with sliming the screwdrives down, leaving off the 1/2 SST ,using 3/8 and 1/4 ,with a smaller auger bit that fits in the 1/4.Then of course have to keep space in mind for the battery/electrical gear.

Hey guys this post was mainly to check pic size, looks bigger on my end.

Little progress on the front portion, the boom looks a little rough right now, just tacked together, wanted to get the screwdrives made ,check things before i weld it out,got the bucket linkage made, have to tack down, hope to have the boom/bucket working soon..

Re: Bruder Liebherr loader build

Well,I had a little setback on the boom, wasn't going to reach max hieght, the way I was going with it,with the servo incased in the front portion, had to come up with plan B ,reverse it ,put the servo in the boom, have the new boom tacked together, got the rams made, seems to work much better now ,has good lifting power with just the one ram, will be using two though, now onto getting the bucket going.:D
Have a few pics and vid.

Re: Bruder Liebherr loader build

Well , getting a little futher with the loader, got the rear axle mounted up,thought about using one servo with a linkage, thought about it some more, decided to try screwdrives, works well, took apart one of the servo's,desoldered wires on the motor, changed postions of wires, soldered back,to get the push/pull for the screwdrives.
I know my metal work looks pretty bad right now, just getting it all mocked up/tacked together, once I have it mocked up,going to take it all back apart and finish welding everything up,grinding down all smooth.
Have a few more pics and vid.
Thanks for looking

Well, need to order 3 more servo's for the rams for the boom/bucket.Been working on the rear plastic section ,getting the battery in,it fit like a glove.
Cut out some the unneeded plastic to make room for the electronics.
Going to cut off the long bolt from the wheel and replace the hex nuts with some cap nuts.

Hey Reg ,thank you very much ,should have it running soon.I have to say I'm very pleased with the strenght of the screwdrive rams, quite powerfull.
Ran the boom/bucket up and down /bucket today ,works great.
I am using these motors from robotmarket place, with the battery I'm using ,motors should be around 250 oz of torque.Around 150 RPM

Heavy duty Bruderism, great!
Is the screw drive an adapted hand-drill? One of those that you push with your hand - sometimes called Archimedean Drill? I think they might be much smoother than drill bits, as they are actually designed to be used for a drive (and not cutting).

Hey Jensr Thanks
Just using a regular style masonary bit 1/4" ,been using this style for awhile have good luck with them. The Archimedean Drill would probaly work better, but mabey hard to find in my area, lol .Can't beat the price of the one's i'm using now ,around 3 to 5 bucks a bit.:D
Is this what your were referring

Finally got the loader together, the build went okay ,I guess ,had a few set backs on it.First tried to build the boom just like the factory boom, but wasn't going to get full hieght ,had to resort to plan b ,reverse it and put the servos in the boom.
Few more pics of the finshed model.
Will try and get a vid up real soon.

Hey thanks modelman :) , yea,the wet packed sand was a little tough, should work well with loose dirt and potting soil, mostly what I use at home.
