Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Well my son has been on me for about a year to do this build but I made him get his act together at school and save some money first and he has so it is time own up on my end of the deal. Ill be helping him with the body and fab and all the building will be on him so here we go..
First we started with is Amax King Hauler and changing the bunk to a signal sleeper. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/001-48.jpg Now in Half http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/002-53.jpg Tape for a straight line of what I am cutting out. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/003-56.jpg Now cut the other piece out and fit it back together. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/004-57.jpg And here is how it looks back with the truck. It is not glued on and it wont be I keep the sleeper free from the cab it is much easier to get at the goods his way when you need too. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/005-57.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/006-49.jpg And here is a little mock up of the cab with its tire for looks http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/007-39.jpg The truck will be on custom 25 inch frame rails running F350 axles front and rear with RC4wd straight ends on them with signal rc4wd 1.9 Mud pluggers on there hummer alum beadlock wheels. Tamiya big rig trans with a wheely king T-case and metal drive shafts and a Custom walking beam rear set up I had Russisloud build for the truck. It will also have one or 2 spare tires behind the sleeper and 2 winches behind the cab and one on the front bumper. We are also taking 2 Bruder drop decks and making one 6 axle heavy duty trailer that will fit the truck and its height.. More to come.. |

Paul is that one of those aftermarket king hauler re-pops? If so will the Tenex work on that plastic?
Brian |
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Brian it is real close to tamiya plastic.
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Nice project, is it going to have a winch behind the sleeper?
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..

Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
being broke down sucks :(
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Any updates on this one??? I liked what you have planned for it! I cant wait for my oldest to be older so i can help him build his first truck. He has been hounding me to teach him to fly already.... YIKES!! That side of r/c is just about as expensive as this one (if you crash :) )
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
No waiting on Russ his Mill is broke down once I get these 2 parts from him I can get the frame rolling..
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Yikes that sucks!! Hope Russ can get up and running again soon!
|
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Those look like stock Hummer rims, but what are the tires?
And the body looks like it could become a Zil 131, Ural 375D, or mebbe ditch it, go armored car, and make a BTR-152 like the beast that chased the SEALS in that bad movie " Navy Seals " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTR-152 Keep us up to date, ok? Whitewolf |
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Well Paul, did I read somewhere else that Russ has his mill sorted out, or was I imagining that? Looking forward to seeing this beast come together.

Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
OK this one has been dead in the water for a bit but finally got some bugs worked out in the product trial and error process but we got them worked out and here is the walking beam set up for the 1.9 tired trucks..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...wboy/002-9.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/006-29.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/008-18.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/009-19.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/010-15.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/011-10.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...wboy/012-8.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...cowboy/013.jpg Here is the front end I set it up with GMADE drop perches for the f350 and Juggernaut leaf springs. The rear I am waiting on the coil springs and a also a F350 tranny the set up I was going to run hung to low so change of course with that.. Also working on a set of heavy duty drum winches for behind the sleeper. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy/003-29.jpg |
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..

Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Well my son has not worked on this much in awhile but lately he has been kicking it around and his gotten back after it so I have some update picks of his work..
Big hang up has been the tanks for him his plastic work is not where he would like it yet so he has scraped a couple of tries and went a different way and got great results.. He came up with this idea to make his tanks.. He took a 2x2 of framing lumber and then went over to the table top belt sander and made up some tanks.. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/065.jpg Then made some tanks straps out of alum on the sheer and formed them and brad nailed them on the back side http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/069.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/068.jpg Then he took stock king hauler step brackets and mounted them and the steps.. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/070.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/071.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/071.jpg And here is his end result.. Now onto the winch deck.. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/074.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...boy020/075.jpg |
Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Paul the tanks look great, that's is thinking out side the box....

Re: Hammer Down Trucker's Army 6x6 Build..
Father son projects, (OR my case uncle nephew, since I DON'T have, or want my own children) are the best kind. It's great when we can help the next generation entering the hobby.
