Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
I was wandering if anybody would be interested in building pulling trucks to have truck pulls at the shows. Here is what I am thinking.
: Stock Tamiya truck axles, trans, suspension : Tires of tires and rims but must be same size as stock, ex. RC4WD roadys or the fulda cross-force. : Motors no bigger than 540 size can. Brushed or brush-less : Gear reduction is builders choice : Frame rails no longer than the longest stock rails in a kit which I think are either the Knight hauler or Aeromax. Frame rails can be aftermarket just have to meet the length limits. : The sled and hitch will be provided and all competitors will use the same hitch. All ideas and comments are welcome. Travis |
Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
The weight of the truck is key. You could have two weight classes.
That would be cool though. |
Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
I am in!! I love this idea but a mod class would be more fun.
Now your going to have to have a class for gear reduction and non reduction.. Do it like the races stock set up all you can change is pinon and and motor and tires and radio gear but state what esc everyone has to use. |

Now agreeing on a weight class will be the next thing. I say for the stock class it should be the weight of a knight hauler + 1lb Travis |
Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
So for classes I can think of three.
Stock: no gear reduction, stock motor, non computerized brushed only esc Super stock: gear reduction and any brushed motor and brushed only esc Modified: unlimited only stock parts are stock trans axles Travis |

Sounds like a good idea.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
Why not try doing something constructive? like take that dirt pile over there & build some roads, or a runway up to an overpass.
Build a quarry site complete with a jaw crusher, conveyers, screening plant... crush road gravel into scale road gravel. Lots of you guys now with newly build dump trks, put 'em to work! Try working together to do something constructive instead of competing against one another to be individuals. |

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
I think it's a cool idea. I've always enjoyed truck, tractor, and semi truck pulls.
Someone is going to have to design and build a good pulling sled though. It would be neat to keep the sled scale looking, but many times the best and functional sleds are anything but scale. It's just bragging rights in the end anyway. No one is going to care what the sled looks like, as long as it performs the same with every hook. |

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
As for a Sled Robbert has a buddy with the most scale sled I would say ever and it is full remote control perfect in every way..
And I see no reason why not do the pulling 3 years ago at Indy when Robbert and my son pulled the sled with there rigs people were all over it and not many people have equipment do to its cost this is something everybody could get into on top of having a truck and trailer and have even more fun.. I dont think it will take away from the rest of the show it all.. |
Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
Great explanation Travy, I hope it becomes an exciting attraction for everyone to participate within.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
I think this would be a great thing to do at shows and such. It will get lots more attention and spectators will hang around a while. You might get more participants as well.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
i like this - the exhibition class could be great for those with odd set ups who just want to have fun too .....

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
I like it, maybe this is how I can get my dad back into the hobby. He used to pull in the early 80s with bruisers and clod busters. Been meaning to get him a truck anyway.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
Here is a pic of the sled I built about 15 years ago. We use to pull stock 2wd trucks and buggies. I liked pulling my old RC10 and then I got a Stampede back when traxxas still made kits and it was just a blast to run. This thing worked great till we got the EMaxx's the poor sled didn't stand a chance. The sled is still usable and works good it's just not real pretty.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
That is a nice sled but I hope Izzy and I can come up with something for less money.

I think the pulling competiton would be a neat new addition to our hobby.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
Travis you could make that sled work. Just change the rear tires out to some semi duallies for looks and make the skid smaller for more friction. Maybe a bigger weight box.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
this is really great and would make a great addition to the hobby :)
is there a finial set of rules now? |
Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows
I don't think we have any thing solid yet and the way I look at it there is no prize money or a trophy so run what you brung and hope you brung enough.:D

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
We are working on a sled design now and hopefully we can have something for this summer but if all else fails I can do some work on the one I have till we get a better one.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
This sounds interesting...
But a couple of questions; How would you get consistent weight for traction on every participants truck? A box holding a predetermined weight that hooks into the truck's 5th wheel? And what about a consistent height pulling hitch for every participant? Something that clips onto the rear of the frame, or rear Xmember? Not everyone showing up at a show will have their truck set up for pulling... Having a truck weight box and pulling hitch assembly along with the sled will allow anyone to participate. Just my thoughts. |

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
Hi guys. I know that I'm way out in California, but I've given events some long thought for some time now and I've a couple of ideas that you may already be using. If you aren't you might like to entertain them.
My first idea was that at any event, the public would feel more involved if there was a public truck show where they could vote on their favorite choice for best show. Then at the end of the event have an announcement of the top three winners. My second idea was to have competitions based on the CDL driving test required by the DMV. It would involve at least three events: 1) Parallel Parking where you have to back the trailer into a space at a 90-degree, 2) Making a Right-hand-turn as close to the cone as possible without hitting the cone, and 3) Straight Backing between a set of at least six cones, three on each side of the trailer without hitting any of them, and one at the very back without backing over it. The judging could be based on a point system. It shouldn't be hard to work out the details if you were interested. I'm sure that it would be great fun in addition to the truck-pulling competition. Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
I love both ideas for truck pulling, and for the driving competition! I would probably (if they do this at Indy) bring my CR01 crawler just for laughs, and I was thinking about how much practice I am gonna need for my first semi when I finally get it done. Something I would love to watch from the experienced guys.

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
Are there any updates on this? After I finished reading all the awesome ideas I couldnt stop myself from smiling!

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling

Re: Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling
Got to witness the testing, you guys are in for a treat. I say worst case, get yourself a box-stock rig just for this if you don't have anything that will pull. Gonna be a blast!
