early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Heres a truck Ive been working on and off with for about a year. Still isnt much to look at and my skills are pretty rough, but its finally starting to come together. My original plan was to use a tamiya tundra frame and transmission to make a short flatbed trucks. I quickly abandoned that idea and thought about making a short shunt truck, which eventually gave way to a longer flatbed truck.
here are some start pics: http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/5df1e9e0.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/3a4fb370.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/989be4ac.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/7b345c5c.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/ebb64dad.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/500c5e04.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/322323a5.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/190050a3.jpg getting further along, now with a longer frame ......... http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/0a748825.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/f24b7136.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/82a79494.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/e4f3e49a.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/3ebd7694.jpg http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/2fa70fd0.jpg what do you guys think? the hood was tough to shape, i know its not exact but you think its close? I love the rims I got from mack daddy, they fit the truck great! the transmission is from a venom creeper crawler, and a tamiya semi rear end. The rest of the parts are just junk I had lying around. |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
oh ya, and I know my workbench is a mess lol, one of these days I might clean it up LMAO.
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Love this project, did you use the pumpkin body?
And I agree, the wheels fit the truck like a glove. And I also like the stretched frame. Keep it up buddy, great job.:D:);) Big John |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
nice work :) looks like it was a lot of sanding:eek:
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Ya it started as a beat up pumpkin body, the sanding is killing me lol, but the end is near!
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Ive always loved the look of old school cab overs! If you font mind my asking civic83, where are you from? Love what you've done so far, can't wait to see it finished
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler

|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
great start to a cool rig!
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Great looking rig and nice plastic work.. I have seen lots of these in my grandfathers pictures when my did was a kid they had a bunch of them in there concrete business..
Great work.. |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Ya I'm learning styrene as I go, there's ALOT of bondo lol, guys with good skills could prolly do it without any! I'm happy with it none the less. Hopefully I'll start the bed next week.
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
I am in Ontario, port perry in fact. Honestly, your plastic work is good. I wouldn't worry about how much filler there is. In the end you don't see it lol
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Not something you see alot of which makes it extra kool!
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Those rims are a perfect match for that truck! looks great
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
I think your doing a wonderful job. You only get good by practice. You will master it in no time.
Those rims you said you got from Mack daddy? Does he make them. I need a couple sets for a couple future builds. |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
Ya the rims are sweet, from what I understand someone on here ( not Mack daddy ) made a run of them a while back but is no longer producing them. I've got a guy looking at one if the spare duals I have, he thinks he can cast some out of resin, if it works out I'll maybe get some made up!

Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
This is actually really cool. I love the old school look and I think it looks much better on the longer rails. I am only echoing what other people have already said when I say this but, plus one on both the wheels and your skills.
Don't knock your work man! From what I can see, most of it is scratch made. From spring hangers, to the rails, the front cross member, spacers, even the 5th wheel bracket. You seem to have made nearly everything. That is very admirable. I think you are doing an excellent job! |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
thats awesome! is it gonna be a single axle or tandem! i also agree those rims are a perfect match! brings it back to (chips patrol time) ! at least thats were i remember seeing them! did you get that show in canada?
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
I'm gonna run it single axle , I've got a pointless hitch on the back might make a dolly up so I can run another trailer behind it too. And ya we got chips here, can't say I ever really watched it tho

Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler

Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
This is a great looking set up. I did one of these body's after Bullet did his and I never finished it. it is just sitting in primer I have to finish it you have inspired me to get to work and make it like my Dad's old trucks. Nice Work..

Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
got a bit more done, the front cross member and bumper are roughed in. body mounts are done, and the stake bed are roughed in. ( bed is just sitting on the frame in the photos.

I also got all the electronics temporarily installed and drove it around the living room, everything seems ok, not very much suspension travel but i think it will be fine! |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler

Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
thats some nice work Civ!!!! who do you get your styrene from? im trying to find somewhere that stocks the "good" stuff locally.
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
I generally deal with Paris junction hobbies in Paris or grand river hobbies in Kitchener, both stock evergreen styrene products. All the flat sheet I use is offcuts I get for free from a local sign shop
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
I luv it! The "old" look really looks good. Keep us updated!

|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
thanks for the compliments guys, means alot considering theres such nice builds on here! im trying to decide on colour now, Im thinking either a dark green or like a tomato red, what do you guys think? also, for the racks on the back, black, or maybe brown? i dont know which way to go yet......
|
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
In the words of the great Peter Griffin, "FREAKIN' SWEET!"
Yeah...maybe an orangey red and brown on the railings, try to make them look like genuine timber. Would be awesome looking and genuine old school. Well done. |
Re: early 50's ford coe hay hauler
small update, pretty much got the body completely smoothed out, so I decided to shoot some paint on it to see how it looks, I used black because thats what I had on hand, what does everybody think? I still think either a dark (british racing?) green or a deep red? opinions anyone?
