KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Hello from Malaysia
Hi everyone! My name is Azizul, and i've been visiting this webpage so often, as I'm a RC maniac too. Been reading a lot as to learn and understand all the tricks and lesson learnt from all of experts here. About myself, working as an Engineering in a SEMICON facility here, but really fall in love in RC, specially Construction equipments..EXCAVATOR. Not sure how to start and make post as to intro about my RC works, but i've create a BLOG as to keep all my pictures, happy viewing and comment there. http://my-rc-page.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Hello from Malaysia Welcome Azizul we are glad to have you here. I went and checked out your blog and those are some nice machines you are working on. Travis -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Hello from Malaysia Your constr equip model construction shows great promise Azizul. Per your excavator: your track drives look weak for such a heavy model of 40kg. At the very least you should have bigger bevel gears for greater gear surface mesh, the track sprocket drive axle should be housed within a cubed dimension for support on two points and both bevel gears properly shimmed to prevent seperating from each other. And may I also recommend that you do not exceed 25bar to keep your hydraulic system intact. If you find your hyd power lacking, increase of your cylinder bore is much safer than higher pressure. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-f-hE7OL2HD...12102011_4.jpg For me to post one your pictures here, (using Windows PC) I merely right click on picture, click properties, copy url & paste here in this forum using the image code [img] your pic url [/img Quote my post to see to see the link code fully. Please feel free to start a thread of your const equip creations in this forum http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...isplay.php?f=6 Lil Giants -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Hello from Malaysia Welcome aboard! Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Thanks everyone, glad that you accepted me to join this page..
Lil, I have the same fear, tested on the flat floor in the house shows no sign of sweat at all, see below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6DSmQBOrdk But when we tested them on extreme surface, the gear is breaking apart, no problem to the motor, but gear is a total damage... at this point my excavator total weight is about 90% of full weight, see pic below: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gq5PrNelnr...0/18122011.jpg Per your advice, i should go with bigger and better strength bewel gears, had ordered a some for testing this week. we are using TRUCK PULLER, LRP 5A BEC As for hyd powerplant..if you notice, i'm using industrial hyd pump, attached to powerful brushless motor, spec for 100bar max!!, but tested to 17bar with no issues/leaking, using teflon seals, nilon pipes. My only prob is control valves, anyone has some advice how i can improve them? Prob is servo kindda stuck and slow respond/fluid speed, any better design that we can try..? will upload the valve pic later.. |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
I don't know how to draw in CAD to clearly explain my thoughts. This is the site where I obtained my John Deere 850 excavator, which is about the same size as what you are building.
You could either use these pictures as a guidline to improve your own track drives or inquire from Vario if they have a track drive component kit to sell to you? http://www.vario-earthmovers.com/bau...70-teil-2.html http://www.vario-earthmovers.com/bau...70-teil-3.html http://www.vario-earthmovers.com/bau...70-teil-5.html The servo automated rotary valves they use in their models work excellent too. http://www.vario-earthmovers.com/bau...0-teil-10.html Though your pump may be capable of producing 100bar, other components may rupture causing very serious injury. What are the limits of the nylon hose you use? You do have a pressure relief valve built into the system, correct? Safety first! :) |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
welcome Izzzol your excavators look great . with a little beefing up of the drive you should have some fine working models :) 2 things I notice I like to find the surce of : 1) the pump and 2) the double pitch attachment chain . Looking forword to updates :D

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Hi Joe,
I admire your dedication and work ethic here. Thx for giving a great advice regarding my own build KOMATSU Excavator.. If you notice, i'm making quite a big one, boom arm stretches a little over 1 meter...and it gonna be heavy. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-crEMePkw9i...210_122333.jpg The track shoe looks akward (see pic below) as the chain links are pretty big in size, cannot find smaller ones..unlike yours below: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1/IMG_0498.jpg Why i dont buy ready made excavator? 1) Dont have money that much.. 2) Dont like their support.. 3) I want to learn from scratch...build one on my own..like it.. 4) I wanna make it bigger in size and more powerful hopefully can beat Germans.. sigh...! As for hyd powerplant, tested WEDICO parts from GoldenTrucking but not satisfied (not realiable, leaking and inssuficent power..see pic: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yQ3Hkx5zXG...0/Hydvalve.jpg I'm using industrial parts now, hyd pump and control valve below: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-K68rxClh7B.../s640/Pump.jpg New control valve (industrial type too): http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mQHY2-QfeR...0/10012012.jpg Today we tested this newly receive control valve and at just below 10bar, we can lift the entire boom arm and can hold steady...it was tight and no leak....all safety precautions has been taken care off, so it's safe i think.. will grab video later this week and share with you and the rest...what do you think...10bar or 20bar is sufficient for my size excavator..? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GiirBzPrvd...10012012_2.jpg The new gears for the track will show up later this week, will test that one too..i like the German's one, like the one on your 850D model..will see if it work or i have to make similar mod... Hope you have time to read my story, thx.. |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
That is some nice serious work.

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
I really like this build. Our machines are similar in size and we're at about the same point in our builds. Like you I also don't have the money to buy a kit but to be honest if I had the money I would buy more shop machinery and scratch build it anyway.
Keep the pictures and info coming! Reg |

I wonder how's your project progress, love to see your superb touch on those Al sheet, very neat and perfectly details.. do you mind to share yours too? i'd like to see the final looks.. how about your hyd system doing? Azizul |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
It's cheaper for me to buy than scratchbuild... I live in a rather remote area with no access to materials, machines, custom cnc, ect. Everything would have to be mail order. I do enough fixing, head scratching, macguyvering on farm machinery nearly everyday that I prefer my hobby to be a ready made assembly that I can sit down and enjoy at the flip of a switch. :)
Per my JD850, it's 1.4m from pivot point to tip of bucket at its furtherest reach. Weighs about 39kg (86lbs). Hydraulic pressure set to 25bar with 20mm diameter cylinders. The valves you show in the above photo are made by Leimbach for wedico, the same hydraulic system as my smaller Stahl constr equip. http://www.leimbach-modellbau.de/start.html What you have there now for valves is humungous, way more flow than what you need. It'll probably take 1/4 scale servos to operate them, the type of servos used in sail boats. Anyways, on my way out the door right now, going on a short holiday for a week. Talk more later. :) |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
hiya,
thought I'd share this link should you not have found it. I use parts books for inspiration and so far it's help me alot to develop parts. hope it helps www.komatsupartsbook.com/  |

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
I wish there was something similar for liebherr as I am building one for someone (thread on here)
but I got the design for the slew joint from there so that I can power the tracks hydraulically. rams and pump are coming from Damitz the Hydraulic motors I am going to make my self along with the control valves. I love your build was wondering what scale you were building to as I am working on 1/14 to fit in with trucks and the reach is about the same. look forward to seeing more. |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
track hyd?? wow, this is something that i was trying to figure out how...So we can get rid off motors gearing ..
my build is meant for 1:12 scale, the PC650 is among they extra big size excavator, so i notice that it's actually bigger if you compare the std series excavator..i'll make tip to tip measurement later.. our hyd system is ready, so does the new gears for the track system, and will snape video for hyd endurance test this sunday, will share some when ready.. |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Amazing work you have done on this so far!! ,look forward to seeing more of this, keep the pics coming:)

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Very nice, just had a look at your blog and its impressive to see it lift, looks like your using a 1cc gear pump? have you worked out how to move your valve block with servos yet?

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
this is the video for the lift test of 7.8KG or 17lbs load ..using smaller rated cylinder (capped at 15bar) on our test/mock up unit..this is sufficient i think, moreover, i'm going for better cylinder (SMC Japan) which can max up to 30bar...to match with the pump which currently producing steady 25bar right now...
Linear servo will come later...anyone already tried this before? pls guide me.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_gCTdpeIPs |

Wow, what a beast of an excavator! It's huge, and looks like it could dig all the way to the other side of the world.
|
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
About valves, it looks huge. Have you concidered other valves like HAWE? They have different sizes:
www.hawe.de/us/products/produ...-spool-valves/ I have serie 1 for the blade and ripper control (4 functions) and serie 2 for running (one each to hydraulic motor). Dan |

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Hi all,
just came back from long holiday (Chienese New Year)..everybody here enjoyed 1 week off...nice to be out of work... Started doing some final touch on the hydraulic system, below is pic of our stock control valve, bracket for servo unit will come later this week I hope, will be a std metal geared servo, testing 7kg and 14kg max stroke capacity...more than enough to operate the valves i think.. the spring assembly at bottom picture will be removed as the servo will be self-centered to neutralize the valve control..putting the system into idle...also making the whole assembly a bit smaller... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_vSfPi6qS6...0/DSC_0459.jpg Also some final cosmetic touch up on Hyd lines to avoind excessive bends or over-travel http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z79fAqDToN...0/DSC_0458.jpg You can also see more at my webpage below: http://my-rc-page.blogspot.com/p/komatsu-excavator.html |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Very nice work on this huge machine. From watching the undercarriage videos it looks as if you don't have any type of tension on the tracks. Is this something you think will be a problem in the future or do you have other plans?

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
The CNY holiday is longer than i thought...many shops and supplier still close and not much of progress for last 2 weeks..here are some final re-arrangement of main cabin and final touch..(cabin cover will be ready soon..).
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mknGqv-dqO...0/DSC_0483.jpg The 4mm X 6mm nilon hoses are now taking shape on the top of main boom, with one piece bracket holding them togather.. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xSx9P6Pi1v...0/DSC_0488.jpg Main hyd cylinder are now been installed with the right ones (CHMC 20-125)..plus the nilon bracket holder at the bottom base plate to hold all 4 lines for the main boom arm. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j9zHG_l2cY...0/DSC_0482.jpg Main control valve is now at final location, compact and neat arrangement, pls note the Al bracket to hold all the servos to control the spool valve for the arm..take note the main battery and hyd oil reservoir are line up at back of the main cabin. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zSEWfM8yrn...0/DSC_0481.jpg Control arm attached to spool arm of the hyd control valve...metal servo, 15kg Same progress you can see here |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Sneak preview of the main cabin..more details will come..

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
And now, moment of truth...all system in place, time for full hyd test...see video below.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yisNP1oMhE So satisfying as all functions are running per my expectation, the hyd movement should be smoother as we exercising this unit more often, as the o-rings and seals are yet to be fully intact/seasoned. Main cabin cover is now under final touch up on powder coating while second excavator unit is going to be ready fast..Pls note, the digging park is just a small end corner of a flatbed lorry, not much space here...still it runs ok....need more sand here.!! Looks shakky a bit due to poor terrain condition/stiff slop and cabin counter-balance weight is yet to install at the back of the main cabin...should be dead stable...this 50kg monster...I hope Pls comment my dear master, i need input here to improve further, if any.. Below is my customized radio, can do up to 10channels...4 sticks, 2.4GHz! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XA6yIQrgzy...0/DSC_0710.jpg Check my blog as well for more pictures.. http://my-rc-page.blogspot.com/p/komatsu-excavator.html |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
sweet radio ;) is it 2 5 channel ? It looks like what I've been thinking will work :D

i hate to see it without the main cabin cover, 1 week or so to be ready..while second unit is coming on very fast..exact carbon copy of this one...so i'll have partner to play it now...plus the VOLVO dumper truck.. |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Hi Azizul! My name is Setti and I`m new on the forun. Your machine is amazing!. I`ve been looking for more than 3 years so far on all web sites and I haven`t seen any model like yours. It`s truly amazing! I did biuld my own excavator a year ago but now I dont even want to see it anymore. It became too slow with wdc pump and valves. Would you please tell me where you bought your control valve, hydraulic pump and motor? I love the combination, it looks just like my real excavator on high speed. Great job and enjoy!!!

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Nice portable sand box! Look's like it run's alot smoother now.

My mc is not that great compared to some others here, still newbie here too. Like everybody else, it's all about patience and determination i guess..my parts are locally sourced, they all are industrial/machinery/gadgets , some info that i put on my blogspot are the true direct OEM/regional distributor, or you can Google them to order. If you want me to order these for you, send me a private msg for the details what you want, i'll order/courier some for you. Besides, i'd already ordered another set for second excavator build, thx |
Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
nice work, it seems to be working very well with that industrial valve block in there, what sort of run times are you getting with it?

Re: KOMATSU Excavator from Malaysia
Oh!, according to supplier, it should last 30mins++, but yet to fully test it, kindda think about 20mins++ depending on your work loading/running style, let me test and confirm first. Fyi, i'm splitting the battery load by 2, that's why i'll hv 2 batteries, bigger one for hyd functions while the smaller one for undercarriage tasks. It should last longer i hope.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yvvUtROqYP...0/DSC_0582.jpg And I also planning to put 12VDC inlet power jack/port at back cover for DC cable to connect to a household transformer, so no need to worry about run time out, as you'll have continuous supply. it may not be that cool with the cable dangling around at the back, but i think it worth the fun, what do you think..? |
