My Stretched globeliner (new pics 7/16/12)
Hi there i recently bought a Globeliner and here are some things im working on
Here's what its starting out like http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...320_140414.jpg Heres what im hoping to make http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...orange-006.jpg I decided to try making my own fenders for it as i have a certain look i wanted to acheive overall. Heres my progress. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...326_125431.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...326_125447.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...326_153637.jpg Heres a mock up sitting on the truck ( not mounted or height adjusted yet) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...326_154006.jpg I used sheet styrene and a 4" pvc pipe. I got a bunch done today and was playing around woth some ideas. I was playing around with mount ideas but i dont like these http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...327_093918.jpg Testing what it would look like with the lights in the fender instead of a bumper http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...327_101359.jpg heres with the turn signal on http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...327_101557.jpg Not sure im im happy with them yet but heres where im at with it. Need to figure out mounts for it still, and im trying to figure out a way that i can make my turn signal be red (thats easy) but be on with the headlights, flash for turn and brake... that way all leds in back would be red.. any ideas? Let me know what you think. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Looks good now, cant wait to see how it turns out w/ your personal touches. Are you in the city or out in the burbs?

Thanks i like the way it looks too but i want to personalize it some. Im North side city im in between ohare and wrigley. Forgot to mention it has an MFU kit in it I hope to get some add ons for it soon. I need a new visor, front bumper, need a set of mirrors. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
nice rig! cant wait to see it done.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
If you are going to be using those fenders, I would suggest removing the tires..Would be a shame to cover of those bad boys and not be able to show off the tread
Just My .02 I am liking those lights on the bumper though Alfy |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
New trailer came in today!!!! Heres some pics
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...328_193349.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...328_193359.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...328_195132.jpg Heres with the new fenders on http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...328_204648.jpg Now i gotta figure out a few adjustments with it... when i go to hook up the trailer my king pin hits my frame.. truck sits a little to high, or tailer too low ill prob put rubber feet on support legs. When i would make a left turn the trailer would release itself from the 5th wheel.. So i temerarily took off the auto leg retractor. (no idea whats its called) and the trailer stays on with no problems.. Still gotta find a few parts to make the truck. heres what the back will hopefully resemble when done. Ill prob have to slant the rear frame and add guide rails as well for the height issue. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...orange-010.jpg Thanks for looking |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Cool truck. Both the model and the 1:1 Freightliner you are using as a referance. Your fenders are looking really nice so far. One thing I have seen done with great results is to get yourself a set of the Knight Hauler's rear tail light assemblies. They have a chrome type bezel, that holds three lenses, and they look really nice. They'd be perfect for mounting on the fenders, or even off the frame of the truck.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I like the lights in the fenders..... looks kool. Overall that's a nice 1:1 there and I like your Globe.....
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
The truck is looking awesome. Gotta love the stretched globeliners. Where did you get the trailer from? And the trailer legs are referd to as landing gear or dolly wheels.;)

Re: My Stretched globeliner
man those globes look awesome stretched!! that freight shaker is a sweet ride also! truck is looking good also those fenders are a nice touch and sweet trailer is that from corbett?
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Thanks everyone.
@BRICKNICK thank you for the lesson :) The trailer i got from Semi Joes Truck Shop. Its really sturdy! its 43" long full alluminum. @IZZY im with you i like the lights in the fenders but i may have a drop bumper made for it. Eventually when i can afford it i hope to be able to pull a "nascar" hauler from you. You make some sweet trailers!! Still need to put lights in the trailer, make a bumper for it, paint it and make a few tweaks here and there. I may turn it into a spread axle instead of a tri-axle. havnt decided. I have a list of trailers i want. Luckily most my changes wont require a full tear down for awhile so i can run the truck while working on it. |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I really like your globe, and you did a really good job on the fenders. I do agree with Alfy, I would remove the tires...it would be a shame to hide that beautiful tread. And the lights in the fenders look awsome.:D:cool:

Re: My Stretched globeliner
I don't know about removing the tires, just because they are covered with fenders. I'm of the train of thought that the details always matter, even when you don't readily see them. For me, it's all about the details. You can still see the tires are not the normal run of the mill treads. The sidewall gives some of it away too. Make the people look close, and they'll be surprised if they find all these little differences and touches.
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
as if you needed another opinion on the tires, if it was me, I'd probably sell them off and put something else on since your going w/ the fenders. You could most likely get something else and make a few bucks in the mean time (for more parts!!!!)
I like the direction this build is taking! can't wait for more update! |

Ive searched a few places and googled, but does anyone know who makes a kit to add more lights??? how many extra lights can i add to the MFU with out any extra stuff? |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
So i was able to get some more work done again today. I started to make one of the 2 toolboxes im going to make for the trailer heres where im at so far with it.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_154836.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_154858.jpg Gotta fill in some stuff on it , make hinges and a door before i can sand and paint it, but i think its turning out ok. Also started working on the perminant mounts for the fenders and here is what i came up with. took some brass strips and drilled a hole bent it to fit in the shock mount http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_193953.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_194001.jpg The fenders were sitting too high on the brass stips so i decided to notch out the fenders where they would sit on the mounts http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_194013.jpg So now they sit level and nicely with a perfect fit and have full clearence with all levels of movement of the tires http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_194135.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_193845.jpg Also had time to move the possition of the visor so it has the more agressive look to it. Sorry for the bad pics here. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_173234.jpg What do ya think so far? |
Re: My Stretched globeliner

Re: My Stretched globeliner
cool globe!
the freightliner you showed is from a dealer near where i live, they are known for some really top notch used trucks, especially if they redo them. heres a link to maybe inspire a few more: http://equipmenterg.com/truck-inventory.php |

Re: My Stretched globeliner
This is a really nice looking truck. I like the inventive way to hang the rear fenders hidden and use existing holes nice. Where did you get those tires i like the realistic look on the treads?

Thanks! They are from RC4wd they have nice grip to them as well as the nice look of the tread. |

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Yes I will be there with what ever I have finished would be my first show for the r/c trucks, I have been room trading at the Indy show for the past 9 years though and see the guys with the trucks every year and I finally bit the bullet and bought some...

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Nice looking build, will be watching progress!!

Re: My Stretched globeliner
:cool:Made some progress today to make the back of the truck look more like this
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...orange-010.jpg So i got some brass and after a few attempts got the hang of soldering it :D here was one of the first test fits http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6216.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6217.jpg I noticed that the top bar was not level so i had to make a few adjustments.. Now i was trying to figure out how to attatch the stacks so i cut off the bottom curve off the stacks (ill later glue them back in the right direction) and made some mount holes to use my exsisting stock stacks with the set of bull pipes from Russ that i have. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6220.jpg they are not going to sit that far back was just testing fitment. here are a few pics of what it will look like after i have Russ make me some air cleaners. i used wood for a mock up. Before cleaners http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6223.jpg With Mock up cleaners http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6225.jpg What do you think so far?? Im still working on the fenders. and Still may have those made so they are single and all match. Now im trying to figure out where i am going to put my battery and MFU controls since once mounted i will no longer have acess to the back of the cab..... Any ideas or suggestions?? :D |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I would put the battery in between the framerails under the deckplate..you will just have to make the wires longer and to make it easy to charge in the truck..:D:D
http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...0224022237.jpg http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...0224022235.jpg :D:D hope his helps alittle:D |
Re: My Stretched globeliner
as far as the mfu switches..I would use knight hauler steps..looks like you added a tool box on the frame and it hides the switches until you open it..:D
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
hmmm both of those ideas might just work! i was thinking of cutting a few holes in one of the tanks and mount the MFU control in there. I just need access to the on/off and the volume control. All other features i control from the transmitter..

Re: My Stretched globeliner
This build is great!! I like how your consealing everything.
Dabears do you know the owner of the real truck? They sure put alot of time and $$ in that project and it shows!!! |

Re: My Stretched globeliner
ok i made some more progress tonight. i stripped the cab down originaly to better test the "stack rack" so heres tonights progress thus far.. :p
started with this had to run her around the basement. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...331_213750.jpg then tore down http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...410_184602.jpg drilled the holes and moutned new rack http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...410_192242.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...410_192250.jpg re ran all my wires and relocate my battery here http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...410_205506.jpg ended up with MFU controls on the frame for now http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...410_205440.jpg :D:D:D Closer shots of the new rack http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6241.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6240.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6233.jpg And thats what i got done tonight :D And she is ready to run!! http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...d/DSCF6239.jpg Might tear down again tomorrow and put back the 55 turn motor... Put in a 65 in just to see what the difference would be. |

Re: My Stretched globeliner
Your fenders look great they are turning out just fine, putting the battery between the frame rails will surely give you that clean look... the exhaust is coming along great...
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
Nice job on that air intake tube rack. Love the big stacks!
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I'll second the nice job on the stack rack! It it will look really good with the cleaners on there. Let me know what you think of the difference in the 2 motors, I was getting ready to order a 55 turn for mine this weekend.:):)
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
globe liner down!! but im likeing the improvements it was bad allready but i also love that stack rack!!
|
Re: My Stretched globeliner
I agree with John mounting the battery under the truck would be your best bet and it would look very clean.
