Hi together!

For some time we habe been spending time in buliding a 1:16 scale pulling sled. Here is the result:

The gears on the right side are needed to adjust the full-pull distance at about 5 meters...

They let the weight box chain turn slower as the axles...

Some small steps ahead:
the gound palte for the weight box is fixed...I guess in this "unloaded" condition I will already have to fill the tires...

Why not seal the tires to the rims (CA usually is the method) and then see if you can get a very fine needle and reasonable capacity syringe, and 'inflate' the tires to a set pressure.

I've been saving my TPN bags, syringes, and a few sets of tubing (well-flushed) and the boat guys were happy to accept various bits, as they make gread variable-weight 'ballast bags' for boats, and even water reservoirs for water cannons and such.

I'd offer a few 27 guage needles, and some 10ml syringes, (new in sterile packages) but I'd bet that Customs would pinch 'em. Ask at the pharmacy, these days they are pretty good with small quantities... (if ya can get smaller than 27 guage, even better, think 32 is about the smallest)

Alternately, you'll wanna use foam-fill... easily sourced at your average R/C shop.

Nice work, Frank! I've always wanted to see one of these built. It will be even more fun to watch the tractors lug it down the track. Make sure you get some video footage!

We will need the sled at our agricultural model expo in june this year. Then we will get a video...

All torque transmitting sprockets and gears are fixed with zylindrical pins on the shafts. With te complete weight in the box I do not trust a small setcrew... :p

Some more steps ahead...:

In the following pictures you can see the levers and mechanic system to lift up the rear end of the skid plate at the starting line. After about 3 ft distance the weight box lets the levers move up and the complete sled plate touches the ground.

The original sleds do it the same way. Lifting the rear end of the sled palte up makes it easier to accelerate the "vehicle" at the starting line. At this moment there is almost rolling friction, later when the plate is pushed down it becomes sliding friction.
In the middle of the weight box you see a thick brass bush. It contains the locking pin for the chain...The pin drops into the free space of the chain link.

That John Deere pulled the sled a lot further then I thought it would. What kind of model or conversion is it?

Hi Paul!
The chain drive is the easiest way for the transmission in this case I think. Just some sprockets and shafts, no bevel gears...
At the moment I will have to do some repairs: Tightening the sprockets on the drive shafts of the axles. They are fixed with a set screw, but that is not stron enough I think. We´ll do it with a cylindrical pin... ;)

Here you can see the dropdown of the skid (STEYR 4wd, 7 punds): The two levers at the rearend of the chassis are released by the weightbox. The edge of the skid is lowered...By doing this we have less friction at the starting line.
