New Project!
As if I haven't got enough to do, I thought I'd start a new project.
Started out with 4x of these: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psa4811442.jpg Have now got 1x of these: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4f4b1286.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps304227e8.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d497046.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps32e878a7.jpg 3 more to go, hope to have them done this weekend. Thanks for looking Stu |

Made some progress over the weekend, now have 4x tyres, 4x wheels, 4x hubs and 4x motors: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e4612c0.jpg Brass wheel bolts m2 x 10, 8x on each wheel: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psbfe67fcf.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6ddf7041.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...pscb52992f.jpg Wheel hub and motor: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psaac6afa4.jpg Next is the motor mounts, will have to wait until next weekend though to start those, a busy week ahead. Thanks for looking Stu |
Re: New Project!
My god. You making a tractor,or a loader? or 1/10 scale four wheel drive truck....
I give up. |
Re: New Project!
I will take a wild guess.
From the looks of the tires and the fact that the rims have only 8 lugs holding them to the hubs, I would say it is going to be a bobcat type of loader. With those tires and anything larger, there would have to be more lugs nuts/bolts holding the rims to the hubs. Now you have my 2 cents worth. BTW I hate secrets...LOL |
Re: New Project!
Not sure what it's going to be yet, but nice machining job on the wheels/hubs. Where'd you get those motors if you don't mind me asking?

Re: New Project!
Thanks for the info on the motors. Maybe I should know this, but I don't. What is artic steer?

I found this at my local scrap metal merchants, 5 meters of 50mm ally bar and a 2.5 meter piece of 20x60, I picked them up for 50€:D http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1df63e73.jpg Not sure what grade it is but it machines lovely, started roughing out the first motor mount: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5253e38d.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb4ae0c8.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psa13ff90a.jpg Motor is a good fit: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...pse6779d93.jpg Not bad for an old Colchester student lathe which incidentally before starting my first wheel for this project was the last lathe I used at school over 20 years ago! Hope to get more done over the weekend. Grüße Stu |
Re: New Project!
OK, Stu, I guess you're building a CAT 938G wheel loader. The clues given by the tires and articulated steering lead me to this conclusion.

Re: New Project!
Has to be some sort of 4x4 tractor...unless he's throwing us off the scent by placing it in the farm tractor section...

Re: New Project!
My guess is JD 8630?

Re: New Project!
That's just mean! LOL :D

Red, or green, or yellow, or silver, or blue, Hmm which brand did I forget? Cheer's, Neil. |
Re: New Project!
One last guess, JD 8650?
Nice work! Whatever make/model it is, I'll be following the build! |

So here goes, this is what its (hopefully!) going to be: Wait for it... A JD 9530 My Mum & Dad bought it me for xmas and said it was ok because it had Age 3+ on the box:D LOL! http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psd56ea860.jpg I was saving up for the MFZ Blocher kit http://mfz-blocher.de/jd_knicklenker_bilder_g.html for the conversion but blew the money on my Bridgeport mill instead so decided to give it ago by myself. This weekends work: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...psb68b18aa.jpg http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0e4e7d14.jpg I want to try and gain a little more ground clearance and replace the button heads with some counter sunk ones instead. Thanks for looking Stu |
Re: New Project!
Stuart
That all looks like 1st class work:o Do you have any drawings? Also can you tell me where you bought the tyres and foams? Regards 5" |
Re: New Project!

No drawings, only sketches with dimensions of the parts I want to make. I am basing it on the MFZ Blocher kit, of which there are a few build threads on some German forums, with some very useful reference pics, along with my own design changes mainly to suit the materials to hand and my own limitations. Tyres came from here, took me ages to find!: Tyres with foams Got the other motor mount done: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5f5275ac.jpg Thanks for looking Stu |
Re: New Project!
****! I hate it,when people do such a fine job!
|
Re: New Project!
Stuart
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for the information, tyres now on order:) I'm watching this very closely The machining looks within my abilities so might give it a go 5" |
Re: New Project!
I'm watching this closely, as I am thinking of buying a MFZ blocher kit for a future project (probably in 6 months to a year).
Good work, and nice model choice. |

Haha! Yeah I guess I should have noticed how far the plate stuck out the back. The pivot won't be hard, just have a few drinks, grab your drill and start boring holes:eek::p. Keep the updates coming!

Re: New Project!
It is so noce to see the centered gearboxes. It really hurts my eyes always to see these RB35 gearmotors. They are strong, but this looks so much better!!
Keep it coming! |
Re: New Project!
Quote:
They are a bit longer than the RB35 ones so I have had to offset the wheel centers. I just hope they are upto the job! Stu |
Re: New Project!
Got a bit more done to the rear end:
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6f4cd174.jpg The underside ready for the drawbar: http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/...pse57874b7.jpg Thanks for looking Stu |
