wanting r/c construction equipment
okay like all of us, i am wanting to buy various construction equipment. problem is it seems like everyone it seems like makes there own. which i am assuming has to do with the high cost i see of buying various things. i wouldn't mind a excavator a dozer and either make a dump trailer or something of that nature. that trailer to me seems like something i could manage.
so is that my only option buy a high priced one from a site like rc4wd.com or something like that? just can't fathom spending 5k on a rc car when i would love to spend that on a real car. |
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
You can buy the bruder models already converted to RC, but most convert there own to save money!!!
|
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
which is what i am after since, i can't afford to spend 2500 on a excavator. granted yes i do want one just can't afford something like that.

That is the page for the ready to run bruder conversions, they are anywhere from $1,100 to 1,400!!! http://www.magomhrc.com/en/16-cat-320 Here is another company from Spain that converts them!!! I bought my hydraulic kit for my liebhrr loader from them, but I haven't got it installed yet!!! Hydraulic is expensive, but will out work any electric setup 3 to 1 in my experience!!! I haven't built either, but from talking to people and seeing them work, that's what I have seen!!! Hope this helps!!! |
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
Cost is a relative thing. It's all dependent on what your interests are, and how much you enjoy them. Nothing says you have to spend a lot of money to enjoy a hobby, but let's face it - sooner or later the time and money you invest adds up. It really doesn't matter what that hobby is. You can't take it with you. Might as well get some enjoyment out of it, right?

Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
RC4WD is not a high priced site for RC construction equipment. Their excavator is about the lowest priced unit out there for what you are getting. While $3000 is not cheap by any means, it is way less than you will pay for any other unit that you only need to add batteries and a charger. Look at any of the other manufacturors and you will find an unbuilt model selling for over $6000 that needs completed plus a radio among other things.
I have been in this hobby for over 6 years and am now just getting into the construction equipment. Just remember, this hobby is like most, you get what you pay for. Cheap price normally means a cheap piece of equipment that will require lots of work to keep it running. Save your money and get the best you can afford. If this means getting a converted Bruder, so be it. Just don't complain about it not doing what anothers' vehicle will do that costs many times what yours does. Those are just the facts about this hobby. Best thing I would suggest is to start small and save up until you can get what you want. |
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
A friend and I had the same discussion about the cost of my 'hobby' when I pointed out that he was a smoker and I'm a non-smoker. The average pack of cigarettes cost $5.88 each and the average smoker can smoke 3 packs a week easily. That's $17.64 a week, making $917.28 a year (not including sales tax). I've been involved with this hobby for over a decade and have invested approx. $7,500 and thousands of hours of enjoyment into it. In the same amount of time he's spent $9,172.80 on a pile of ash and will possibly get cancer for his effort :(
In my summation, I'd still have over $1,500 to make up the difference and I can charge up & drive the trucks any time for fun :D Just a thought - RCT |

I must resist :eek::eek:

Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
17yrs x $3640/yr (avg pack a day smoker) = $61 880<- that's insane!!!! I might have spent just above that, and I have had thousands of hrs of enjoyment that has kept me out of the bars - out of trouble. ;)

Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
I dont know where the Problem is.
I have been waiting for 20 years and see my 4 Children grow up before I could afford my first Tamiya King Hauler. And that was not what I wanted. My Dream was a Wedico Conventional since I was 20. So be patient and save some Money for the Hobby. Or you buy a Cheap Shotgun and search for a Bank.....:cop: |
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
I was in the same boat with the kids deal and scraped by but i always saved a little for the rc hobby which was boats car/trucks and helis at the time..you only live once ..People spend so much more on real boats harleys motorhomes and whatever and I see complaints about these prices of our RC stuff ..Nobody likes to work for free or less $10 bucks an hour..Maybe we should start a thread about " Cheap afordable junky construction machines to get you feet wet " No offence

Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
hey if u have a 401k is a good way to get money without pain. thanks to that i have 9 trucks and some other stuff.

Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
Everyone has a budget, everyone has different amounts of interest, and a whole lot of other variables!!! I say everyone should start with bruder conversions, and tymia trucks!!! They are the most reasonable way for you to find out how interested you are in a hobby!!! I wouldn't want to go buy a real piece of equipment for thousands of $ with no heavy equipment experience, or a CDL!!! You have to start small and work your way up!!! I'm not going to go burn $5,000-8,000 on a RC and let it sit on the shelf because I was not as interested as I thought, I'm going to start with the bruder and tymia route and then if I get big into the hobby, then I might scratch build, or buy high end stuff!!! That's just my opinion, not the only way to get into the hobby, just the way I want to do it!!!
|
Re: wanting r/c construction equipment
I may have been a little premature to label the lower end stuff Junk ..I have seen some great bruder and hobby engine conversions on here and would be happy own one of those machines ..The bottom line is that what ever $$$$ you spend on these machines im sure you will enjoy it ..I myself am truly am hooked :)
