Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Good morning folks,
it´s been a while but I´d like to show you what I´ve been working on the past months. You might have followed the R956 on the internet. I´ve had the honour to build the first assembly-kit before final production. It could be called "beta-testing". http://www.funktionsmodellbau-geiger...SK_fake_04.jpg As you can guess according to the colours of my modells there is a business-background to the construction fleet. The company wished for another excavator, so here it is... http://www.funktionsmodellbau-geiger...s/r956_001.jpg http://www.funktionsmodellbau-geiger...s/r956_002.jpg http://www.funktionsmodellbau-geiger...s/r956_003.jpg http://www.funktionsmodellbau-geiger...s/r956_004.jpg ... |

and a video of the first test of the setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcA7Ez4RwYU The model itself is outstanding. Frank´s love to details is shown in every part of the excavator. The assembly is possible with the right ammount of background in building a model. bye Ulrich |

Very nice

Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Congratulations Ulrich, it must be quite an honor to be noted for your building talent & chosen for a beta product tester of one of the more prominent companies dedicated to our hobby. Your work looks awesome as always, great job.
What is the ground level reach of this 956 Liebherr? Will you be building the 960 front shovel any time soon? |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Hi Joe,
nice reading from you. Everything´s ok? As I wrote Glass Construction wanted a new Model-Excavator. Between the company and myself there are several connections. We had to decide between the "almost available" Liebherr R956 and the "in stock" Komatsu PC490. Frank and I, beeing total Liebherr nerds, put our heads together and decided to give it a shot. The kit itself is perfectly designed, the main obstacles were the (then) missing manual and some pre-production bugs. So yeah, I´m really happy I was able to gain the experience of building this model. We´ve had a lot of contact and discussions that will help me with future projects. Beeing the 4th excavator in the fleet, there will be no further purchase in that area. I´ve got to finish the wheeled one first. The front-shovel is therefore not an option. I think we´ve reached the end of the road, as 8 models are already hard to handle for the events. Sorry. I´ll meassure the reach and get back at you as soon as possible. bye Ulrich |

The many vids I've watched of the 956, it looks like a heavy brute with some serious digging power behind it... now get busy wearing the paint off some buckets! |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Awesome model! I saw your build on the modell baustelle site. That's great that you posted here as well because I had to translate everything.
I'm planning on buying one too in the near future. Watching a close eye on the euro as it's falling. |

Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Hi folks,
Frank got the assembly manual online. He did a very good job on this one as well es the model. http://www.premacon.com/index.php/se...bauanleitungen It takes some background to build the model. But it´s worth it. bye Ulrich |

Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
What is the ground level reach of this 956 Liebherr?
And what is the diameter of the plumbing & cyl bores? |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
The maximum ground level is 540mm.
All connections are m5 except the ones from the quick coupler. They're 3mm. Bye Ulrich |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
540mm  how did you measure that?
The ol' Stahl is 640mm & the Fumotec is 850mm. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ps8vhjy9qx.jpg So that is m5 thread? ... I was wondering what hose ID was? |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
I mixed this one up. 540mm is digging depth.
www.premacon.de Abmessungen und Gewicht: Länge Unterwagen: 398 mm Breite Kettenlaufwerk (aussen): 265 mm Spurbreite Kettenlaufwerk; 200 mm Höhe Kettenlaufwerk: 85 mm Maximale Grabtiefe: 540 mm Höhe bis Kabinendach: 245 mm Breite Oberwagen: 206 mm Gewicht des Baggers: 22 kg + Hose: Polyamid Hydraulikschlauch aussen 4,0 mm innen 2,7 mm Druck bis 50 bar 1 Meter Bye Ulrich |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
I think Joe is referring to the center rotation axis to the tip of the bucket at maximum reach on flat ground.
|
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Got that from the pic. I'll measure that as sonore as possible.
Bye Ulrich |

Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Slightly off topic. What is that you digging in the 1st post? Looks like some plastic. What and where do you get it from?
Thanks Chris |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Hi Chris,
you´re right. http://www.ttm-shop.de/index.php/kat...kg_beutel.html Not cheap and definately no challenge for hydraulic models, but approved by the "international dear wife association" for playing inside...:D bye Ulrich |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
LOL. cheers buddy.

I too was curious about this black plastic material that you have in some of your pics and videos. In the past I have also seen that some people have used the black shredded rubber. The plastic material seams like it would be too light in weight to work with? Do you think it works well? Do you have any problems with the plastic causing issues with your tracked machines? Even though I just cant get over a hump to have dirt in my basement, the dirt would still be awesome for when it is muddy outside or snowy. This plastic appears to be the next best thing. I appreciate any info. Thanks, Eddie |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Hi Eddy,
I´m glad my wife didn´t read that. You should have seen her look when I was heading for the playground in the attic with two bins of dirt back then. But as you write, you might have seen that too already... We´ve got a spot in the garden where my son and I can dig when the weather is fine. The other times box in the attic is the next best thing. The plastic is definately lighter than normal dirt. If you compare it to the "orginal" it´s like dry sand. The lightness shows when openig the bucket, it slips to each side, not easy to control over the truck. You can see this on real excavators loading typical dry sand. The buckets are shaped differently to handle that problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp757lSVzZI about a min in The same problem is with driving on it. As you cannot do that on dry sand in real life, you won´t be able to climb that pile shown on the pics. Neither the Wheeloader L576, nore the Tracked-Loader LR634 will do that. They just sink, pushing the material away. Last weekend I emptied three batteries on the LR634 as it got a new driveline. The chain itself has no problem with the small plastic lying around, as mentioned not beeing able climb a bigger pile. The Tyres of the trucks fill with the small parts and have to bee cleaned before a "real ride" Hope that helps a litte. bye Ulrich |
Re: Liebherr R956 made by Premacon
Hi again. Yes that info helps. I have a small wooded structure built in my basement for me and the kids to load trucks and things in the winter. I am contemplating on what to put in it. So I will probably get a small amount of the plastic to test it.
I too have a nice set up in the backyard for digging. Real bummer when it is muddy from a rain storm or frozen in the winter. My vario excavators can dig some hard dirt, but not that hard stuff in the frozen winter... I would like to cover it with a roof structure someday. That would also help to keep a lot of sun off in the middle of the summer. That Danish Construction channel is great. I have watched many videos from their channel. Thanks, Eddie |
