140H Grader...Unpdate

I am back on the grader. Here are a few pics. This is going to be a full function grader. For the controls, i will utilize a combination of air and hydraulics.....too many features to run full hydraulics. Steering will run off hydraulics and some of the blade/moldboard features. Ripper will be air. I have started "some" paint, but i have a long ways to go. I have completely changed the body of the grader. I like the hulky look of the square-back of the 140H instead of the slanted. The saddle tanks are about to primer and paint.

Enjoy,

Re: 140H Grader

How are you going to synchronize all 4 drive motors and be able to steer? Wasn't there a discussion about that recently? How many channels will be needed to operate a grader like this?

Re: 140H Grader

I think using the "dual motor mix" with the Sabertooth might work to help it steer, as long as you're moving forward. Have you used a Sabertooth dual esc with a tracked model before Rob?

I think there's about 8 or9 hyd functions within a grader Steve... D9 Joe would know. ;)

Nice build
The four motors for the drive system is the way to go for sure, that is what I did for my ADT. Did you happen to put drive motors in the front steering wheels, it would sure help with the traction and also steering.

Re: 140H Grader

Thanks guys for all the compliments.

I am using the Sabertooth ESC
I am not powering the front wheels.
As for the channels......whew! f/rv, steering, body swival, wheel tilt, ripper, moldboard up/dn, blade swival, blade tilt, lights, just to name a few. I am going to run hydraulics on the steering and on the moldboard. I am using air on the ripper......and figure out the rest on the fly. There are not enough channels or switches on any radio to properly run all the function on a grader......that i am aware of.

Still have a lot of work to do.

What a beast! It sure looks big compared to the 1/64 scale model. Glad to see you are moving forward with this project, Rob. Looking good.

Is that styrene and wood on the saddle tanks? is there some kind of advantage to doing it that way?

They look neat though.

Re: 140H Grader

Blender, the advantage for me is the simple build with not having to build a mold. I would prefer to vaccuum form the parts, but don't have the resources. I carved the piece from a block of balsa.

Ed mentioned to me about the radio, but need a bunch of 3-pos switches. the grader has a lot of 3-pos levers for the up/dn and sideways motions.

I need to get the wheels sandblasted then powder coated

those are mommoth dump trk wheels

Re: 140H Grader Updates

Well, i was able to get the patterns of the moldboard done and sent off to the waterjet. Got'm back yesterday.....and after drilling and tapping all the parts, this is how it looks.

Spent 2 1/2 hrs at the dentist this a.m. and finallyfelt like working on the grade some more tonight. Got the cylinders positioned and now i need to make the swing arms for them.

Are those tires hard to get? Can you hold a rule up to them?

Steve they are 6"dia X 2" wide aprox . I have them on my pan , they are for the Tamiya mammoth dump . you can get them from PMD or Tamiya USA till they all run out

Wow Rob another piece of art  as I expect from a master
