Another dump box variation

I was asked a few days ago about building a custom dump box. This is not an unusual request for me to hear but it is a style I haven't built before until now. Anyway, we did some talking back and forth about some things that might need to be changed slightly to work in the mini world and yesterday I got to work!

This is the truck that I am helping to recreate...

After two days in the shop, this is what I have so far. Not much I guess.lol These things take time...

that's a jersey dumper. I was trying to get rob some good pics all winter long.
that truck was as quick as a beaver on ice every time I got the camera he was gone

Those beavers, they can be pretty slick sometimes. Even without ice.

Rob sent me a couple of pictures and a video a couple of days back. I just searched for more pictures tonight and it looks like there are a number of them out there. It should be a pretty cool looking little rig when it's finished. It's interesting for me to do something a bit different but not so much that it's a pain. Super cool that it is going to the UK too!

Haha. I was trying to get an email address to give him on YouTube but my providers site had a glitch and froze the email I wanted. I had to phone them and then it took 3 days to sort it out. By that time Rob was on here.lol

It's a little different but not enough to cause more grey hair...yet.

Re: Another dump box variation

Not a lot of progress today but I did get the lower brace mounted, a little welding done underneath and the ladders welded up.

Hey Reg what's the number's $$ on a box such as that.

Re: Another dump box variation

Since I haven't built one like this before, we agreed on $1000US including the tarp($850-complete box, $150-tarp). As always, shipping is on top of that. I'm about 22hrs into the setup now and I'm only about half way. I have 7hrs just in the rear section/tailgate and it isn't done yet.lol If I do another one I may need to ask a little more but we'll see. It isn't finished yet...

Pictures of todays progress coming soon!

Crunch Crunch Popcorn I'm Ready for it ! Let's have a look.

Re: Another dump box variation

Here you go Bo. So far there are 22 different pieces in this box not including the ladders or lift assembly. 8 more pieces to bend and or machine and the tailgate should work! I think it looks good so far though.

By the looks of Mark's trailer I say it's going to be worth every penny of that. And how will you be mechanizing the lift gate?

I'm just going to make it have a regular style tailgate so it will just be mechanical.

So I'm doing OK with it so far? I was able to lop off 3/8" on the back end yesterday before welding on all of the goodies. I was sweating a little when making the cuts but it all turned out fine and in the end it will look better with less overhang.

A little update. The front is really tall on this one because it will be using a custom KW cab. The modified cab is 147mm tall from frame rail to roof. I believe a stock king is about 120mm. Anyway, here it is.

Rob said it's a Ford orange but I know the powder coater won't have the exact color. I think they have an orange that's close though.

Here's another update. I had hoped to have it done today but it was not meant to be. Things always take much longer than anticipated it seems but it is getting close.

Thanks Mark. I kind of thought I would try to make up a cover for it but I guess some are belt drive. What do you think? Yes/no?

Cover is made. All parts are torn down, washed and headed for coating. Fingers crossed the orange they have is close enough!
